Region: A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Town: Worthen is a small rural village in Shropshire, which is situated between Montgomery and Shrewsbury, and offers lovely views towards the Stiperstones and Callow Hills. Montgomery, 9 miles away, is a small town on the border between Wales and England. Steeped in history the beautiful county town of Montgomeryshire boasts a mixture of timber framed houses, cobbled streets and Georgian/Victorian architecture as well as the impressive ruins of its 13th century hill top castle. Montgomery offers a variety of individual shops and good quality pubs and restaurants, which makes it a pleasant place for a day or night out. Yet more amenities, plus a cinema and theatre can be found in Shrewsbury. Surrounded by beautiful countryside with Offa’s Dyke Pathway on the doorstep and the Stiperstones and Long Mynd Hills nearby, Worthen is an excellent location for walking and biking.
