Head out of your front door and right into the heart of this historic town, with its cobbled town square – the largest in Scotland. The town has a fantastic array of independent shops and eateries to explore, along with a monthly farmers’ market. Just outside the town is Kelso Racecourse, which has a busy calendar of events throughout the year. The Scottish Borders and surrounding area are a paradise for keen walkers, with routes to explore in the foothills of the Lammermuirs, the Cheviot Hills and, along the banks of the River Tweed. Further afield, take a day trip to Northumberland National Park (13 miles) or the charming coastal town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (23 miles).

The period, three-storey townhouse is decorated in calming tones and features a mix of contemporary and antique-style furniture. Deep-set, panelled windows let in plenty of natural light, and you’ll find little pops of colour in the artwork and floral fabrics dotted throughout the property. On the ground floor, a bright and spacious lounge/kitchen/diner awaits, with everything needed to prepare hearty feasts after a day of exploring. Unwind together here, sharing a bottle of wine on the sofa and enjoying mealtimes around the dining table. Heading up to the first floor, discover an elegant super-king-size bedroom with neutral decor and zip-and-link beds, meaning the room can be converted into a twin if needed. A stylish family bathroom rounds off this floor. Climb the stairs to the second floor and find the inviting single bedroom. Also on this level, you’ll have a gorgeous lounge with views across the nearby church. This is the perfect place to relax and watch a film on the Smart TV or read your book in the glow of the wood burner-effect electric fire.
