The Space
High on a Silver Lake hillside, this redesigned 1950s mid century home is all about the view. A wall of glass takes in the Silver Lake Reservoir, the Hollywood Sign, and Griffith Observatory, and every evening ends with the sunset spreading across the hills. Architect Rogerio Carvalheiro of RCDF Studio kept the home’s original warmth, with wide plank oak floors, rich wood, and crisp white ceilings, so it feels inviting rather than cold and modern.
Life here centers on one open, light filled room where the kitchen, dining, and living areas come together. Settle into the deep sectional by the brick decorative fireplace, host dinner for eight at the large wood table, or cook something ambitious at the marble topped island, with an induction range, a KitchenAid refrigerator, and a kitchen stocked right down to the enameled Dutch ovens.
One of the home’s best corners is a view filled nook with an automatic standing desk, a record player, and a deep vinyl collection. It makes remote work feel easy, and it is just as good for an evening with an album. Guitar hooks on the wall are ready for anyone who travels with an instrument.
Three bedrooms offer real privacy, each in its own part of the home. The primary suite has a boutique hotel feel, with a king bed, a walk-in closet, a spa-like bath with a soaking tub and separate shower, and its own private patio. A second king bedroom has its own ensuite, and a twin room with built-in shelving is ideal for kids or friends. Three and a half baths keep mornings easy.
A home gym with a Peloton, a rower, and a StairMaster makes routines simple to keep, and a basketball hoop in the driveway is ready for a game.
Outdoors, decks and patios step down the hillside, with hanging chairs, outdoor dining, an outdoor fireplace, and Adirondack chairs for watching the sunset. Fruit trees fill the gardens, from Meyer lemon to fig, peach, and pomegranate, and the hillside setting keeps everything private and quiet.
For a month or longer, the essentials are all here, with central air and heat, in home laundry, a gated driveway with a Tesla charger and a second EV charger, and a secure package drop at the front gate.
Guest Access
Guests will have access to the entire main home, including the home gym, decks, patios, gardens, and the driveway. The garage and a private recording studio on the lower level are not accessible to guests. The studio is reached through the front gate and has its own separate entrance. On the rare occasion it will be in use, we will let you know ahead of time. The studio is fully soundproofed, so you should not hear any noise from it.
Interaction with Guests
The Open Air Homes team is dedicated to making your stay a great one. We’re here to help with any questions and are happy to share local recommendations as you explore the area.
The Neighborhood
The home sits in the hills of Silver Lake, one of the most loved neighborhoods on the east side of Los Angeles, just above the Silver Lake Reservoir. The walking path around the reservoir is a local ritual for morning runs and evening strolls, and the Silver Lake Meadow nearby is an easy spot for a picnic or an afternoon in the sun.
Sunset Boulevard and Silver Lake Boulevard hold the neighborhood’s best cafes, restaurants, and independent shops. Intelligentsia, Pine and Crane, Botanica, and Night + Market Song are all close, and Sunset Junction is a few minutes away for an evening out. Los Feliz Village, Echo Park Lake, and the shops and restaurants of Atwater Village are each a short drive.
Griffith Park, the Griffith Observatory, and miles of hiking trails are close by, and Dodger Stadium is an easy trip on game nights.
It is a private hillside retreat with one of the city’s most creative neighborhoods right outside the gate.
Getting Around
Most people choose to have a car when visiting Southern California. There are many unique and significant attractions within two hours of this home, so if you’re an explorer, we recommend a car.
From Silver Lake, Downtown, Hollywood, and Glendale are typically 15 to 20 minutes by car, and Pasadena is about 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Uber and Lyft are readily available throughout the area.
The driveway fits two small cars or one larger vehicle. Street parking is available, though it can be tight on the hillside streets.
Other Things to Note
Please note that the automatic driveway gate is currently under repair and not in use. Until the repair is complete, guests will need to open and close the gate manually when entering and leaving the driveway.
Grill - Please note that the outdoor grill is currently out of order and not usable for guests at this time.
Please note that there is a private recording studio on the lower level of the property. It is reached through the front gate, has its own separate entrance, and is not part of the rental. On the rare occasion it will be in use, we will notify you ahead of time. The studio is fully soundproofed, so you should not hear any noise from it.
