La Jolla Cove Suites

We ordered a suite with two bedrooms for our family. The suite is super big with partial beautiful sea view. Beds are comfortable.

The down point: there is no air conditioner in the living room. Only two portable air conditioners in two bedrooms, and they are very old and loud. In that extreme hot day, the hotel wouldn’t replace our suite to other two rooms with AC, but offered only one room with AC, which is not enough for our family. They said if we need two rooms with AC, we need to pay extra fee for the second room which is very expensive (over $400)! This was not a pleasant experience.

So overall, I like this property. Yes there is construction in major renovation of the hotel. We stayed in the terrace room, which was a cute little bungalow with a patio. It was missing a mini fridge and a few trash cans.

What I did not like about this property is anytime we wanted to go anywhere we had to go up or down some serious staircases. It does state that in the listing as staircase only from the parking lot, but does not state staircase only to everywhere, example lobby, down to the main road, beach. Possibly when the renovation is done they’ll be another way to get around the property. What I didn’t understand is the pool towels were in the lobby and not by the pool. The pool was directly below our little Casita, but if we need a towel, we had to go down 150 steps, around construction & back up. I’m sure they would’ve brought us a towel, but it just seemed kind of strange. Also near the Casitas, there was no ice machine and the lack of a refrigerator forced us to use an ice chest. Again, just minor things but things that were kind of annoying. After a two day stay and going up and down those stairs constantly I can say I did get a good workout, but it also was exhausting.

Good location for dining, walking, shops!

The entire place is under construction. Upon arrival we were informed that construction takes place from 7:00am-4:00 pm. Each morning we were woken up at 7:00am sharp to a jackhammer. I would recommend staying elsewhere until construction is done. Additionally, because it is on the water near a popular ocean bird and sea lion hang out when we were on the rooftop and coming and going from the hotel there was a strong smell of blubber and the public restrooms across the street.
