The Baroness Hotel

Quiet location but could still walk to places. Good sized room. Good coffee machine in room.

Room was basic and a bit run down, but they were clearly updating it all gradually. Didn't have our correct booking details at start then put us in a room with only 1 bed, had booked 2 beds as we are a family of 3. But it was sorted quickly.

Great staff, very accommodating. Positive experience.

A little pricey.

Very good location, cozy room, very comfortable beds. The bedroom was clean, the microwave and the coffee machine were functional, and the heating was good. There is a machine with cold water, hot water and ice at the ground floor. The express checkout is convenient.

The check-in counter was across the street, at another inn. The shower had a low pressure. There is a stove and an oven in the room, which (permanently) don't work - so I don't see the point of keeping them in the room.

The hotel is about 10 minutes on foot from downtown or the convention center - uphill. I felt reasonably safe walking there at night. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned, and I liked that it does not have air-condition and that it was easily possible to open the window. I did not wake up from any sirens (from the hospital on the other side of the road) at night, and there was very little traffic. They put in a small kitchen, but it appears that they had to disable the stove because of regulations. Although I did not use it, there is a fridge and a microwave. There is also a kitchen-style sink. Towels and necessities were fine. The staff was very friendly. While it was necessary to cross the road for checkin. I did not feel that to be a problem.

The hairdryer was basically useless. While the hotel itself does not (yet) have aircondition, the hospital on the other side of the road has, and I heard that at night. There was a note sent before the stay that they are redoing the rooms one by one, and while I did not notice anything during my stay, I recommend asking in advance if this would affect your stay.
