Exceptional hospitality, cleanliness, attention to detail, and especially food
Some people might find it a bit old, but that is what we were looking for, very traditional ryokan experience

Matsusaki is a wonderful traditional ryokan experience in Japan. Everything, from the amazing hospitality (and I was really blown away by the service/hospitality) to the carefully curated and beautifully presented meals, to the size and comfort of the rooms, was perfect. Our room had a dining room overlooking the garden, a main living/sleeping area, a separate bathroom and then a spa bathroom with an open air private onsen pool on the garden. Dinner service was a dream- we were provided a private dining room (although I saw some guests who requested dinner in their room) and our hostess/nakai-san brought each course and explained them to us. Overall there were thirteen courses of traditional Japanese foods served. The proprietress also stopped in several times to say hello and assist if needed, which was lovely.
I didnt use all of the public onsens because we had our private bath in the room, but the ones I did use were lovely and quite an experience for me as a foreigner.
There is also a train station shuttle which is prompt and very easy to use, which eased some of our worry.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay and wished that I had booked to stay for more time. I would stay at Matsusaki again!
There was really nothing I didn't like!

Pleasant stay with various outdoor hot baths available, good food and large, traditional room. Staff keen to please.
Staff a bit over-anxious. Tried to deal with everything in English when we would have preferred a bit more Japanese and a bit more of a relaxed approach. Food not served in room as there were four of us, but in a separate dining room. A little distant from Kanazawa.

The facilities are very very beautiful and extremely clean. The whole place has a relaxing atmosphere and the nicest staff. The Kaiseki dinner was incredible, with many courses to try out, all superbly prepared.

The staff were very lovely and helpful. They provided us with Japanese robes and pajamas, the rooms were nice - futons were great.
Place was very run down. The place we ate dinner was very grim - bright bright lighting, ugly room. Dinner was OK only. Japanese bath area badly needed updating. Run down area on the roof. Not at all the ryokan experience I was hoping for.

Traditional Japanese Ryokan. The staff are extremely nice, polite and well trained, it made our stay really comfortable and especia, and lovelyl. The onsen is great as well, highly recommend getting a japanese style room with a private bath and book in advance a private outdoor onsen.
I highly recommend the stay.

The facilities and service were top notch and super high touch. Everybody was very helpful and nice. The property is also very pretty with its bridges and water running around. Overall a great stay, we will be back! Oh, and the food was delicious too.
Nothing.

From the moment my husband and I were picked up from the train station to leaving the facility via shuttle bus, we thoroughly impressed by the hospitality and attention to detail. This was our first time at a ryokan and using an onsen (booked a room with a private onsen), and it exceeded our expectations and more. Our host Natalie was so lovely and personable. She made us feel so welcomed and taken cared of. We had wonderful conversations in English and Spanish. Even though we don’t speak Japanese (just know a few greetings and relied on Google translate), everyone was so gracious and patient with us as we tried to communicate. The owner’s wife also came by our room during dinner to congratulate us as newlyweds and gifted us tea cups. I can’t wait to use them when home and remember the wonderful experience we had there. There is also a gift shop which sells the in-house vinegar made by its chef, other food items, ceramics, and more. We had fun browsing and bought a ponzu sauce plus small plates to take home.

Absolutely gorgeous location with a beautiful view of the garden as you walk on the pathway to the ryokan. The staff were all super nice and made sure our stay was comfortable and relaxing. Our room was spacious and had many areas to rest in... Such as the outdoor balcony and private open air bath. Our dinner and breakfast were also very excellent! We were served a lot of food and they were each presented like pieces of art. Overall, it was a wonderful and memorable experience. We'll definitely come back next time!

From the moment we were collected by the free shuttle bus at Matto station to our return the following day, we felt warmly welcomed. The traditional room was spacious. Japanese yukata, including night attire, is provided for your stay, enhancing the experience. Bathing in the private indoor and outdoor onsen was incredibly relaxing. The dinner and breakfast were substantial, with the many delicious dishes highlighting local produce. The variety of complementary flavours and textures was incredible. The staff are so friendly and helpful. While Matsusaki may seem expensive, it was definitely great value. Our visit there was the highlight of our Japanese experience.
