This was a lovely ryokan run by a mother and daughter in a very central location in Hakodate. I loved the traditional Japanese-style rooms, the location, and the kindness and hospitality of the mother and daughter who run the place. I think you will not find another ryokan like this in central Hakodate!
You need the owners help to get in and out of the building. But this is not a big issue, they were always quick to assist.

There's a lot to like here. Room is classic japanese style, cosy, and more roomy than you would expect; they have a sizable bath area which you can get all to yourself; location is very close to station/bus terminal; price is very affordable; wifi is good; and proprietors are friendly and really seem dedicated to making sure you have a good stay.
I don't want to call this bad per se, but...the proprietors are very old school. They lock the door when you leave so you have to ring the bell, even if it's late. You must also deposit the room key, and inform them if you want a shower so they can turn the boiler on. It's a very involved interaction, which is not inconvenient, but makes me feel like I'm being a nuisance.

Good location close to Hakodate station, nice staff, outlet close to bed.
Only one toilet and bathroom for all guests. Only one hand towel to dry hands with. Hair in the bathtub despite having to reserve the tub ahead of time. Spotty wifi that wouldn't connect to my device more often than not.
