The Norman Guest House

It was very convenient for the ferry to Calais. The owner was very friendly. We were able to park on site for free. It was clean and the bed was fine. All ok for a one night stop.

We didn’t have breakfast so couldn’t comment on that. We briefly saw the rooms on the first floor and understood why this B&b has an 8.9 rating; however, if you find yourself in the attic room you’ll probably find it more like a 7.5. It cost more than we thought it should have done but it was a bank holiday weekend. The local shopping area is a bit seedy, we couldn’t find anywhere pleasant to eat so just got a takeaway.

Stairs but they let us leave suitcases down stairs. We just got what we needs and took that to our room.

Our host was really friendly and helpful in supporting our late arrival, he moved his own car to give us a public bay right outside the doors which was really kind, especially with two sleeping children. The room was fine for our one night stay before catching the ferry first thing. The central location was great to get ahead of the queues if catching the ferry, but be warned that many of the routes from the property to the port are deliberately blocked to prevent short cuts through the town.

The room was warm (it was a heatwave!), but otherwise comfortable and I believe there were fans if needed. The nearby trains do make the house rubble from time to time which initially makes you wonder what the noise is and the presence on the main road might be some can't keep the windows open if you are sensitive to the odd bit of traffic and chatter from passing people. I would say our one night rate was on the high side for the room and not the best value as breakfast was extra, but perhaps comparable to other hotels in the area during peak season for a family of four.

Leider war kein Frühstück in dem doch sehr teuren Preis inbegriffen, gut war, dass alles sehr sauber war!

Es war in der Nacht sehr laut, eine Bahn oder irgendetwas hat auf den Gleisen (Taktung Züge 20-30min) geschliffen, die Nachbarschaft hat gebrüllt, laute Motorengeräusche waren zu hören. Toilette und Dusche waren im Gang und nicht auf dem Zimmer!
