Hill Park Hotel

Very quiet and room was a good size, clean and comfortable. Excellent takeaway right next door too. Made up for lack of bar and no dinners available in hotel.

Breakfast on first day was good. Second day we went down at 8:40 (breakfast was 7 - 9 and was told the sausage was “finished” but people on next table had just been served with them. Obviously you need to put your order in before 8:30. Our bacon would have made a good cricket bat too. Bar on site was closed too.

The pub next door had a great atmosphere, friendly. Breakfast was perfect. Quiet location. Buses an 8 minute walk to get into Edinburgh.

The location was suitable for our needs. We rented a car so it was a good location to use as a base for a few days. The breakfast was standard fare, not excellent but not bad either. It was very quick to order most mornings and tasted good. Our room met all of our needs and was comfortable enough.

The hotel in general is older and not a lot of sound proofing was done, so your quality of stay unfortunately hinges on your neighbors ability to be considerate. Even some simple door jam pads or gaskets would go a long way to help with noise. In our case the first night was not enjoyable for this reason. The rest of our stay was fine. There was also never any staff at the front desk which just brings the whole experience down a bit. It didn't directly effect our stay but the atmosphere suffers because of this. Overall attention to detail could be improved and would make a big difference here.
