Panama Hotel and Suites

A family event brought me to San Rafael and a stay at the Panama Hotel (in the Captain’s Quarters room with private bathroom). The last time I was at the historic Panama was in the early 1980’s! If you want an upscale hotel with all of the fancy amenities do not stay here. If you, like I, appreciate a place with charm and antiquity, that’s a little offbeat and unconventional yet 100% clean: book a room at the Panama. *Next time I will definitely have dinner in the quaint restaurant. The menu made me wish I was staying longer. Also, there’s a wonderful bakery right next door, Armida’s Bakery, where I had THE most delicious cherry almond morning roll & coffee. Everything they offered looked great and so handy to have next door. I will definitely stay at the Panama again if I return to the area.

It would be helpful to have designated parking spaces but this is a neighborhood so that might not be possible. I did easily find a spot nearby and streetlights helped but I’d say bring a flashlight or your cellphone flashlight would be helpful.

Historical. Beautiful. Quaint. Ridiculous. Old school. Fun. Funny.

Entrance and exit after 8 pm. No access to fresh water after 8 pm. Manager who I thought was super friendly is likely under the control of his partner who didn’t like my hours. When it was check out time he slammed on my door so loud I nearly had a heart attack. I won’t look a man like that in the eye without thinking less of him next time I see him. There’s no cause for that kind of behavior.
