incredibly planned, good landscaping, lovely villas that need no air conditioning and gorgeous pool. the restaurant is excellent especially their lobster pasta! the entire staff is jovial, helpful and warm.

as it’s right by the beach the rooms could use a couple of floor mats to reduce bringing the sand inside. Some ant and mosquito repellants would be great too.

Lovely setting and layout. Rooms a great size, comfortable and lovely views. Pool area was a great place to relax - comfortable seats etc. Restaurant had good food. Lots of fresh seafood and a tasty breakfast. Staff very welcoming and helpful.

In some areas it feels like a little extra maintenance could really lift the property further.

I love it all- Nothing to say except lovely staff, beautiful pools, garden, tastefully decorated, comfortable. We didn't want to leave.

The water pressure was a little weak and the water a little salty but it didn't really disturb us 0 and I expect it is difficult for the hotel to do anything about that. The pool is a little tricky to get in and out off for limited mobility people as it is a big step in and out.

No AC in rooms , very hot and uncomfortable to sleep . expensive overpriced on essentials at shop up to 3 times whats available outside of the hotel and food was good but expensive . On top of this expensive pricing a 5% Additional card fee is charged if using a card to pay . this is a rip off . would certainly never visit again .

We liked the whole concept of the hotel, room, yard, pool, beach in front. Everything looks and feels really nice. Staff is very nice and helpful, they do great job!

air conditioner is a must!!! In such a beautiful hotel and there are only fans?!!! we couldn't sleep because of the heat in the room!

location, beach front area was nice and nice garden.

we had the very last room near the road which felt airless and very dark and hot. it felt that the rooms were all crammed together as many as possible in a small area. this may be different for the sea facing rooms and ones that got a bit or light .

We spent 4 nights here and we loved everything about this place. The resort is well laid out and the gardens, pools and communal areas are immaculate. The Spa offers excellent treatments at very good prices. The restaurant area is lovely and the food was generally excellent. We loved the cocktails too. And then there is the beach - wow! One of the most breathtaking we have ever come across - dazzling white, powdery sand with beautiful shells, starfish and sea urchins. It is stunning both when the tide is out and when it is in. We could swim easily each afternoon and there are very comfortable sun beds with shade on the beach (as well as round the pools). The resort provides tide tables, so you can plan your day. You can walk to other beach restaurants and to local places behind the resort. We highly recommend this place. A real haven of peace after a hectic safari! Thank you Prisca and all the staff for looking after us so well!

If we have to be picky, you sometimes had to wait a long time for your food to appear. Also, the Masai on the beach, whilst extremely friendly and respectful, will not leave you alone until you buy something from them. Make sure you have small dollar notes with you (or shillings), as the resort was not always able to help with this.

Very friendly staff, beautiful view from the room. Nice pool. Good food. We could make earlier check in, very good welcome Juice and wet towels. Sun beds on the Beach. Recommended. Close to Mnemba Island So You can get good price from beach boys to travel there. Its windy beach good for kitetesurfing. It's a good place if You want to avoid a lot of tourist, more cameral. A lot of trees/palms on beach line.

rooms with no room service, no tv, even sleepers they don’t have. we requested a room with view they confirmed, tgen we arrived with room with no view we were very upset ans staff was like this is what we have. Breakfast only egg and very dirty coffee they charged me foemr 2 cappuccino daily. breakfast included but u have to pay to get clean water to drink and only black coffee if u want cappuccino they charge u. pool were dirty and with wet paint every time we enter we go our white. and no hot water in the room. wifi gets off at 11pm daily and most of the time not working it was our worst stay ever. we run to go back home will never go back.

The property was stunning, a perfect blend of luxury and rustic with modern African flair. Unlike most of the resorty type properties in Zanzibar, this was small, personal and idyllic. The grounds are very green and lush and blend beach and jungle. The staff were really lovely, spoke impeccable English, and found a perfect balance of being available, kind and considerate without being in your face all the time. The restaurant food was the best we have had the whole time we’ve been in Tanzania. We do not normally eat in hotel restaurants and much prefer to go local or authentic restaurants but we ate here several days in a row because it was such good, fresh, well prepared food with the menu changing daily. The location of the hotel is right on the beach, so there are stunning views over the pool and from the rooms and quick access to the beach. The hotel was very clean, and the staff made it feel very homely. On arrival we were upgraded and got a free massage which was a lovely touch. The whole experience, the staff and environment have meant it has been one of the best places we have ever stayed.

They charge $5 for most things outside of 1 x plate of fruit and bread which most hotels include in the standard price (e.g oatmeal). If at all possible (appreciate it might not be) I would recommend looking into filtered water. Some of the other eco-hotels we went to provided filtered water to help the impact on the planet (granted this was on mainland so may not be feasible on Zanzibar). We used lots of plastic bottles to have access to drinking water at dinner/in the room etc. Matemwe is so much cleaner and more tranquil than more populated areas of Zanzibar, however you’re very remote and reliant on taxis (which are more expensive when ordered via the hotel than on the street) I would recommend hiring a motor bike at some point (requires a permit).

I have no words to describe this amazing property! Fantastic facilities, magnificent local people running it at the best location in Zanzibar! Also must mention the restaurant, food to die for! we were eating there daily! I totally recommend this place to both couples and families! Wow!
