We had the pleasure of staying at Oakland the end of July 2022. The house was perfect for us. We were on vacation to celebrate my inlaw 50th Anniversary, which included a family of 4 and 2 adult couples. The place was perfect. It is in close proximity to Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove and Halifax; all of which we did day trips too. The restaurants in Manhone Bay were delicious (came reccommended by the host in the welcome book). Access was easy, house was very clean and spacious. We went paddle boarding (brought our own) in the bay, and crab catching when the tide went out. We took advantage of the conservation area beach, 2 minutes away. And the grandparents could watch us swim from the deck overlooking the ocean. The house suited us perfectly, and we were impressed with it and its location. Kate, the owner, was amazing to work with (although, it was so easy we didnt need much from her). Would go back in a heart beat with more family. Thank you for the wonderful vacation Kate!

Very responsive owners.Good location for trips to town or other places near by.Well designed. Minimal provisions- no paper towels, condiments, decent cooking pots (no lid on pan),ice trays etc. Front door hard to open. Bring good bug spray.

What a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend spent at Heron Point Hideaway. The view of the water from the main living space made an already beautiful cottage spectacular. Five comfortable bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms made a comfortable stay for our family 6. At low tide we played in the bay finding crabs, starfish, and lots of little fish. Lovely outdoor dining options overlooking the ocean. We were treated to 4 beautiful sunrises. Friendly welcoming hosts.

The hosts were very responsive, usually within a couple of hours at most and access to the cottage was easy. The cottage is well equipped, with lots of space (3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 below). We were only 2, so a bit big for us, but we knew that when we rented. One of the prior reviews suggested art for the walls, which clearly the owners took to heart or the reviewer wasn’t paying attention.. The framed photographs throughout the rooms are lovely. The only disappointment we had was the waterfront; which was inaccessible even with water shoes, as it’s quite weedy, bordering next to wetlands. The weather had been quite damp during our stay, so mosquitoes prevented walks. However, herons and birds were entertaining habitants. The proximity to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg is an easy and pretty drive along Hwy.3, with beaches close to Lunenberg and Cheste, all stunning areas.

Kate's cottage is lovely - we spent 10 nights with plenty of room for extended family that joined us for a few nights, including around the dinnertable for meals enjoying while overlooking the bay. The kitchen was well equipped, including kid friendly plates, cups, etc., which was great for our younger ones. The check in process was seemless, and Kate was just a quick text away for any questions that came up before and during our stay. The cottage is located close enough to Mahone Bay that we could pop in frequently for anything we needed, and was short drive to multiple beaches, and other small towns as well. The shoreline by the cottage also made for great beachcombing. We did not use the firepit, or sit out on the deck as much as we thought we would as the mosquitoes were quite bad. That said, we tended to make the cottage more of our homebase from which to venture out each day rather than spend every day on the property so it worked out okay for us. All in all, a really great stay!!

I agree with previous reviews that the pillows are uncomfortable and the blinds barely keep the light out in the morning. It's true that it's buggy in the evening but that's to be expected even in August. However, a bit of art on the walls would make the place more welcoming, both on the main floor and downstairs. Also, the large basement rec room is empty other than for a couch. A small pool table or a fusball table would really improve it and would provide an activity in the evening. Also, on warm days, the water in the bay is quite warm and very pleasant to swim in. However, there are no water boats on site, which means that to enjoy the water fully, you'd need to rent canoes or kayaks nearby and transport them to the property. We were lucky enough to be able to borrow a friend's kayak, but having a couple of kayaks and/or canoes on site would greatly improve the experience of this rental. Finally, a small detail which makes a huge difference. The view from the back of the house is beautiful, and it's crying out for a hammock from which to read, nap or just admire the view. Even without providing a hammock, because there is only one tree on the property, it's impossible to install one. Ideally, you could install two poles into the grass somewhere in the back, with hooks on the poles to facilitate hanging a hammock, which guests could bring. Still a great location to spend time with friends or family.

The bright clean newly built beachy open plan spacious & generous accommodations perfect for our large family. Lovely tidal cove looking out to Andrew’s Island and Strumm Island was peaceful. We went for wades and little swims - just perfect!

This is my third time renting nearby homes for my vacations. This was our best place yet. The house is extremely liveable and well appointed. The big windows all over the house bring the outdoor inside. We will booking the same place again in 3 months.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kate's cottage. The cottage is beautiful, almost brand new. It is well appointed and had almost every appliance we needed for the week. However the best thing about the cottage is the view. We also enjoyed some dips in the ocean and the bike trails nearby. Overall a wonderful week!

My family enjoyed a wonderful time in this beautiful home . It is bright, clean with wrap around windows that allow you to enjoy the wonderful view of the water from inside the house . It was well equipped with everything to prepare meals. The open concept allowed us to enjoy our multigenerational holiday . Kate was very responsive to my inquiries and provided contact information. The water was great for paddle boarding. One of the nicest homes we have had the pleasure of renting.

I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon Kate’s property. It’s a gorgeous, uncluttered property with breathtaking views . We all had space for socializing and lots of room to find a quiet spot to read or nap. I will be back! Thank you so much for being a gracious host.

Kate, the owner was excellent to work with and always responded promptly to questions about the property before and after we arrived. This is a wonderful property to spend time away with family. The house was immaculate and decorated tastefully! The proximity to the water enabled us to launch kayaks daily right on the property and the cycling was also awesome. I can't say enough to praise the owners of this property!!! The house is exactly what was listed, better in fact. Charming, clean, new, convenient, had everything we needed for our family of 8, with room to spare. The owners were in constant contact prior, during and after our stay. Mahone Bay just down the road, a stunning settling with all the amenities, fine dining included. Lobster boil on the deck overlooking a stunning vista, what else can you ask for? The day we were to check out, hurricane Dorian hit. The owners graciously allowed us to stay an additional day as our flights were cancelled. We hunkered down, with full supports, including constant contact from them through power outages and hurricane winds and rain. Even sending someone to check in on us. True Nova Scotia hospitality. Kate, I can't thank you enough for making our family vacation memorable, safe and homey. We hope to come back, and will recommend to all we know.

The property was large and perfect for our huge family of 12 ranging in age from 1-68 years old! Lots of room to play games outside and inside, large kitchen for making family meals, comfortable beds and pillows with fans in each room. Our only frustration was the waterfront. You aren't really able to swim from it and the mosquitoes are so aggressive by the water that we didnt spend any time by it. Could be a seasonal issue however! Kate was very reachable and knowledgeable about the area. The neighbors were so lovely and welcoming! We had an incredible week and the location was perfect being close to all of the neighboring towns we wanted to visit!

As a place where we can have the main annual get together with our family, this was fantastic. A quiet get away and a fantastic view.

We stayed at this home for one week at the end of July. First of all...the home is gorgeous, clean, spacious and the owners have thought of everything a family would need. We were even able to have a lobster supper - big pot and all the tools were there to be used! The property. I cannot say enough. It is gorgeous. The backyard gently slopes down to the water, so there is access for swimming or boating (we purchased two cheap inflatable row boats) and the kids had a blast. The firepit was a highlight at the end of a day beaching. So many memories made! Location - idyllic. A little bit of country living, but about 10 minutes (or less) to Mahone Bay. Our favourite beach is Rissers and we could be there within a half hour. We dealt with Kate before check in and during our stay. She is wonderful. Mark, the property manager is great and friendly. We had one minor problem. We called and Mark was there within a half hour and Kate followed up to ensure everything was okay. The responsiveness and their caring attitudes speaks multitudes about how well this property is cared for and how they value their guests. Thank you for this wonderful place to stay! We have memories made in your home that we will cherish! P.s. the puzzle in the closet can best be built on the floor (it is huge)...it took seven of us several days picking away at it in the mornings and evenings! What fun!

This is a very cute house. We believe/hope that it is still a work in progress. We rented two houses in two weeks. They were the exact same price. The first one was very obviously high end. This house is really not. The furniture is very worn and appears to be left overs from other houses. The mattresses are very worn and the pillows were horrible. The bathrooms are finished very nicely. The weeds in the yard needed mowing and it should be noted that this house borders a huge swamp making outdoor enjoyment impossible due to clouds of mosquitoes. I am sorry for the negative remarks but this is our opinion. We would not rent this house again.

We enjoyed the home and its location. Our 4 teenaged grandchildren enjoyed the spaciousness of the rec room and the grounds although wished there could have been a TV and/or a table to play games on. The beds were comfortable and we were glad of the ceiling fans as no air conditioning. Unfortunately we were there during a very hot week. The location is wonderful and so close to Mahone Bay. The amenities were great and so many condiments left in the wonderful kitchen for our use. We enjoyed the roomy deck and the great view. We couldn't swim there but found enough to do. Kate was amazing with calling to make sure things were alright and was very helpful.

Clean, spacious. Well equipped kitchen. Everything was as advertised. Would recommend highly.
