Fully Restored 1886 Beach Cottage Close To Downtown Shops Pelican Place, once featured on THIS OLD HOUSE, has all the comfort of today with the charm of yesteryear. Once a railroad office, the cottage was moved to the present site; the interior was gutted, deconstructed with structures salvaged and renovated, and then rebuilt with modern plumbing and wiring, central air and heat, and other modern comforts yet still retaining its period character. The cottage is fully equipped for a care-free vacation: a huge, well stocked kitchen, comfortable living room with a 50 inch TV and entertainment center, games, movies, and Netflix. Sleep well in the comfortable beds. For your beach needs, there are an outside shower, beach chairs and toys, and even off street parking large enough for a boat.

We stayed for 5 nights with 4 kids. We spent some of every day on the beach and also enjoyed walking around Cape Charles and spent time at Kiptopkeke park and Wallops Island. We did have an issue with the door handles in the upstairs bedroom having loose set screws and the potential of not being opened from the inside of the room. This was insignificant for our trip but might be something to fix for future stays.

It was a nice house had a casualty on the kitchen step should be marked better or put in a wedge so that you don't catch your foot . upstairs bath room the door knob came off trapping my husband in . Grille had no cord that fit the larger one of the 2 cord there did not fit . Out side of those minor thing the house was perfect for our group clen and the bed were comfy !!

We loved our stay at the Pelican Place. The kitchen is always stocked with necessary items. The Keurig machine is great, but the TWO bakeries within walking distance are the real winners. If you want to be close to the main drag, then Pelican Place is your house. We have stayed several times. The house is always clean. Parking on the property is a rare amenity in CC. We usually load up the car to drive to the beach, so the driveway is our savior! The outside shower helps get all the kids clean prior to house entry :)

As a family of nine we enjoyed our time at Pelican Place. The house was clean, well stocks, and had ample space. I especially enjoyed the backyard with outdoor shower, fountain, grill, and fire pit. We look forward to returning.

Great house, Great location
This house was great for our group of 6 (4 adults and 2 children). There is room inside and outside to sit around a table and/or hangout. The kitchen is well stocked with items needed to make meals for a group. It is an easy walk to eateries including Coastal Baking and Deadrise Pies basically next door. We did drive one car to the beach each day for the small children and supplies but never had an issue parking. Older kids and/or adults could make the walk easily. The kids enjoyed the bunk bed room. One note for groups traveling together: there is a full bathroom upstairs and one downstairs off the kitchen. The upstairs shower is in clawfoot tub. We had to do some juggling to all manage showers but it was doable.
I sent a message prior to arrival to the property management with a question about what beach items were in the house. I got a partial answer and then didn't hear back again. I called the morning after we arrived to ask a question about water jugs in the house, had to leave a voicemail, and never got called back. When we arrived, there were some dirty bath mats still piled in the hallway, a couple of pretzels under the coffee table, and a pretty full trash bin already outside. Trash day is Tuesday, and we checked in on Wednesday. We suspect the trash didn't get out on Tuesday. When we checked out on Sunday, our bags didn't fit in the bin. However, the rest of the house, including kitchen, was clean. There were plenty of linens provided for use during our stay.

Great stay for beach vacay!
Stayed at Pelican Place for our first visit to Cape Charles. The recent renovation did a nice job of bringing modern conveniences and amenities to the oldest extant home in town while preserving the original character. Perfect for out family of four.
Location is conveniently located on edge of downtown just a short walk or golf cart ride from restaurants, shops, and the beach. 1/2 block from CC Ryder cart rentals so pick up and return was a breeze.
We will definitely stay again!

We have a great time at the home and in Cape Charles. The home was well furnished and very well maintened. We wish it was closer to the water but we wouldn't rule out renting the home again. We rent the home last minute and the staff at Chesapeake Properties was very helpful and professional.

We fell in love with the pictures of this charming home and were not disappointed. We did not want to leave! The house is beautifully decorated, with wainscoting, soothing colors, is roomy and cozy. We were amazed at the large, bright fully stocked kitchen. If we didn't have an item, we found it. Prepare a crockpot meal in the morning and spend the day at the un-crowded, expansive beach. Enjoy a cocktail or a morning cup of coffee on the upstairs porch or in the landscaped backyard garden which is lovely and peaceful. Explore the town, a short walk down the block. Enjoy ice cream at Brown Dog and good food at Kelly's Pub. We had the best grits ever at the Coffee House. Take an evening stroll to the pier. Don't forget fresh daily caught seafood at Cap'n Pete's. We found the property to be well maintained and the house clean, the management was readily available. We look forward to returning next summer!

We came to get away last year for Thanksgiving, and liked it so much we came back this year for Thanksgiving. The house is well appointed and has everything you could need to make a Thanksgiving dinner away from home for a family of 4. Downtown Cape Charles was busy this year, with lots of activity in the local shops and restaurants. It's always great coming back to a warm house and comfy beds after walking around town and local trails. We'll likely return again next Thanksgiving, as this is quickly becoming a great family tradition!

Second year at Pelican's Place for Thanksgiving
We came to get away last year for Thanksgiving, and liked it so much we came back this year for Thanksgiving. The house is well appointed and has everything you could need to make a Thanksgiving dinner away from home for a family of 4. Downtown Cape Charles was busy this year, with lots of activity in the local shops and restaurants. It's always great coming back to a warm house and comfy beds after walking around town and local trails. We'll likely return again next Thanksgiving, as this is quickly becoming a great family tradition!

Broken water main and no water

The house overall was nice and in a great location, however our last night the water main broke and the city shut off the water. That meant no working toilets, no showers, etc. The property manager let us know what happened, but never offered to compensate us for such an abrupt end to our vacation. It seems we should have at least been refunded our last night to make up for it, but they have not responded to our requests.

We had a lovely week in Cape Charles. We arrived and the Home was found to be impeccably clean. It was very comfy for two couples and 3 children. The kitchen was well stocked with a rice cooker, slow cooker, a griddle and pots and pans, coffee maker, practically all the essentials for cooking. The one improvement could be a new set of non stick pans as they are not usable in the condition they are in. The beds were comfy, the AC unit worked perfectly. One thing to mention with small children is that both of the doors leading to the outside have locks only on the door handles. It would be good if they add a higher lock for safety. A screen door added to the front door would be beneficial. The screen door on the side door doesn’t lock either so we always had to make sure doors were locked so that the toddler wouldn’t get out. We also had to put a chair in front of the front door since it’s on a main road we were afraid she would open the door. So I would suggest an extra lock on the doors! Otherwise, the bedrooms were great and very comfy mattresses the kids loved the bunk beds and taking a bath in the claw foot tub. We especially loved that we were on the Main Street and walked every day into town and to the beach. The backyard was really cute too with the fire pit and outdoor shower. Altogether a really nice stay and we would recommend Pelican Place to friends and family!

Great house, close to the beach and downtown
We stayed here for Thanksgiving 2020, just needing to get away from home. The layout of the house is great, the kids loved the bunk beds. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner away from home. The TV/Surround Sound were great for relaxing afternoons watching movies with the kids also. We would definitely like to return to rent this property again!

This is a really cute house within walking distance of most of the main attractions in Cape Charles. It’s an old house, but in good shape. The kitchen is very well furnished. The back yard is really cool too, including a grill. Similar to other posts on here, the washing machine in the kitchen is super loud.

Our family of four enjoyed our stay at Pelican place. This is our second time renting this house. It was a welcome break from the day to day monotony of the COVID-19 pandemic. The house was clean and comfortable. The town made us feel welcome and safe during this troubling time. Cape Charles is our home away from home and slice of heaven. We only had one incident where someone approached us without a face mask. This occurred on the fishing pier. Otherwise, we felt safe and secure. We had a vacation cat that greeted us upon our arrival. He added to the charm of the house. We enjoyed a fire in the back yard a couple nights during our stay. The only complaint would be that when the washer is running, it sounds like a plane is taking off in the house. We would recommend this property to our friends and family. The property manager messaged us during the hurricane to ensure we were making out ok. The communication was excellent.

Get away from COVID
Loved the home. Great location. Very clean. Loved the back yard. The outside shower could use a new shower head, the water pressure was weak. The home was very comfortable and we loved our stay.

Great house close to the heart of Cape Charles
My family (including kids ages 8, 8 and 10) loved renting this home for a get-away this summer. Cape Charles is always charming and this home is a close walk to shops and restaurants. The home was clean and just as described. We would definitely rent again!

Great older home that was nicely renovated. The kitchen is well appointed with a variety of necessary tools, pans & even a slow cooker. Paper towels, tp and towels were well stocked.
The back yard was beautifully landscaped and we loved the fire pit.
