About this condo rental
Beautiful studio condo with legitimate ocean view from the nice lanai. Look across a green area right out to the ocean. There will be sunset views from your private lanai. Great use of space in this unit, with a queen size bed, full refrigerator, desk and chair for working, smart TV and high speed internet. There is a two-sided galley area for bath and simple food prep area. Great in-town location with items like restaurants, night spots, and shops literally steps away. Just across the street is a white sand beach but with lava rocks at entry. *****Price is per two guests. Really is best for two considering the size of the condo. ***** If owner agrees to additional guests, each additional guest is $50.00 per night. ****** Amenities at the Islander include a beautiful pool area with a large hot tub. There are two gas grills for the use of guests that opt to not eat out or use the items in the food prep area to cook and store foods. Full size refrigerator as well as a mini fridge. No stove top. Grounds are landscaped with an emphasis on local plants, and the results are lush and colorful. Air conditioner was replaced in July 2022 . Pets are not allowed. The Islander is a well established condo complex in the heart of downtown Kona. With a large variety of eating establishments, farmer's market within a block and so many things to do. This is the perfect spot to check out everything Kona has to offer. You can walk to everything you need including a nice beach. You can watch the sunset from the lanai.
The only caution is that there is no place to put your clothes. There are hangers in the closet, but no available drawer space.
This minor inconvenience does not take away from this perfect location.

Great location, walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the ocean. Only downsize is the parking. There is not enough parking stalls for all the units. We had to park on the street.

We enjoyed our stay very much! The apartment is a studio with room for two people. The best parts are the location and the lovely patio. Guests need to know that parking is difficult, but once a spot is found, you can leave it and walk to activities.

Had everything we really needed, and a beautiful view of the ocean from the lanai.
In the center of Kailua, we could walk to multiple restaurants and beaches.
When we contacted the owners with an issue, it was handled promptly.

I loved the overall location in terms of proximity to stores and food but the beach across the street was rocky and inaccessible. Plus, the street noise with people blaring music is non stop even into the late hours. The good news is that the slider blocks most of the noise :-) I wish the place had a few more amenities like a hot plate, kleenex, and bit more cleanliness. This is pretty handicap accessible for someone who needs little/no stairs but parking is nuts, so unless you're back by 5, you're walking downhill and FAR. I didn't mind but just something to keep in mind. Owners communication was helpful. Overall a solid 4 stars.

My partner and I loved staying at this property. The location of the property was great and very walkable. It was so nice being able to see the beach from the room and the property was better than how it looked in the pictures.The property was supplied with everything we needed for a comfortable stay and we would love to come back and stay here again.

Wonderful view and very centrolly located. I liked that it felt tucked in but you're just off the main drag.
Tolley nearby so transportation is fairly easy. Gorgeous courtyard, the pool and staff are very nice.

This property was a perfect "home base" for my wife & I to explore the Big Island.
Great local shops & food in walking distance.
The view is fantastic; overlooks a main road & then a lava stone shore & the ocean. Fun to watch the waves and people/cars going by.
The description's claim "250 feet from your toes in the water" is a stretch. Private property and the rocky shore preclude immediate access to the water. A park not too far away has ocean access though.
Though in the middle of things, noise isn't a problem. The provided fan and AC can easily provide white noise to crowd out any unwanted sound. And the AC works well to cool the space if desired.
The interior is efficient. Not "luxurious," but a very pleasant spot to be. Nicer than the pictures made it out to be.
Owner commutation was good.
I'd stay here again, but being aware of a few things and having expectations set will make your stay better.
First, it's a VRBO. So it has all the garbage (literally!) that goes with that. Your first experience will be initialing all the potential fees you may incur. Your last experience will being annoyed with the thought "I paid a cleaning fee; why am I having to lug all my trash to a dumpster?"
Next, the property was clean - but as we entered there were a few bugs and a small lizard inside. My understanding is that's just part of life on the island.
Finally, there are not enough parking spaces. Expect to have to find parking off property.

Clean, comfortable condo, perfect for 1 or 2 people. The complex was a hotel in the 60s or 70s and has a vintage Kona ambiance. Lots of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Right across the street from the ocean with a beautiful view and surf sounds. It is in downtown, so there are cars and people going by, but to me that’s part of the ambiance. The condo has a kitchenette with everything you need to make breakfast and simple meals. Very nice clean, quiet pool and spa area. The grounds are planted with abundant, well-maintained ti plants, banana and plumeria trees. The feeling here is not that of a slick, glitzy resort, but a comfortable vintage hotel with local character. Although the condo is individually owned, the front desk staff are very helpful. The property manager for the condo is also easy to reach by phone and very accommodating. She arranged for me to have early access to put perishables in the fridge. I stayed for two nights while my home was tented for termites, and it was a nice stay-cation at a reasonable price.

The unit was fantastic. It was very central to restaurants, shops and the beach. The unit was very well fitted out and plenty of equipment for a great holiday. Loved the ocean front views and the cool breeze just wonderful.

We had a great time in Kona. The Islander condo is exactly as is listed. A+++ location and a gorgeous well kept property—it’s meticulously groomed, smells amazing from all the beautiful and colorful flowers, is well lit at night, and the perfect walking distance from literally everything to see and do in Kona. Whether your in Kona to relax and slow down or ready to beach it up and party—this condo location is perfect. The unit is at the end of the building (so only 1 neighbor) and definitely has a great ocean view as well as great people watching from the patio. The unit is the perfect cozy space and has everything we needed plus more. We would 100% come back to this exact property and unit. Owner/manager is AMAZING and an excellent communicator—replied promptly to all my messages and was very friendly and giving to share their property and time telling us all about the town and things to do.
Overall—excellent experience and it’s our first VRBO experience so even better!

Convenient location. Property showed wear and tear without needed maintenance. Broken & damaged (slider difficult to close/latch - needs replacing, pocket door wood damaged, bed frame propped on blocks, tile grout sloppy and falling out, ceiling panels hanging down in bathroom, popcorn ceiling damage, etc ). Parking very difficult.

This property is very accurate to listing. While it is not a 5 star hotel this vrbo is in an amazing location right on the main shopping strip near everything to do. Parking is hit or miss but location to food and activities is perfect!

The check in was very easy. The location of the unit is amazing. You can see the ocean from the lanai. The unit is very efficient and nicely decorated. You can easily walk to the downtown. The parking at the resort can be difficult. There are not enough spaces for all the cars. We solved this problem by parking the car by late afternoon and then just walking to the downtown area. You could try to find parking on the street but we were not comfortable with that option.
The unit has a few issues, the AC needs a good cleaning along with the couch ( it had dirt and stains on it.). I covered it with a towel before I sat on it. The unit is a bit dated. The shower floor is worn. I did contact the host and got an immediate response. They left beach chairs, an umbrella, and beach mat for our use. Very nice touch. Its an older unit but so close to downtown with an outstanding view! The kitchen area had a microwave, coffee maker, toaster and small fridge. There is a full size fridge in the livingroom/ bedroom.

We loved this little condo! It was clean and had everything we needed. The very best part was the location. Right across the road from the beautiful ocean and within walking distance to the shops… restaurants and farmers market! We will definitely be going back.

This property is a little small for 4 people but the view from the lanai makes up for the lack of space. Well equipment for simple meals and across the street from beach. Right in the middle of all boutiques and restaurants. We had a wonderful time.

Better than expected!
This location is perfect if you are wanting to check out downtown Kona. The place was super clean and check in was fairly easy. There were three adult friends in the room and we had plenty of room to sleep. The "beach" that is across the street is small and I saw no one swimming in the water right there during my stay. That being said, there are two beach areas where a lot of people swimming within in a 15 minute walk of the room. It has a wonderful view from the outside area!!

Every about the property and listing was accurate the location was impeccable, my only complaint was the large number of small ants that were present in the kitchen and the room. Not a big deal but makes me question cleanliness and if food had been left out.
