Charming Waterfront Cottage Just Steps from East Penobscot Bay
About this cottage rental
2 WEEK MINIMUM RENTAL. Stay in a charming oceanfront cottage on 4 wooded acres just feet from the beach. Enjoy morning coffee on the deck as the sun rises over Penobscot Bay and the Altantic Ocean. Stroll along the beach collecting shells and glass. Set up your easel and capture the tall ships, lobster boats and seals/eagles that are ever present. Explore nature trails within a walking distance. Take a sailing or riding lesson. Explore the area in the kayaks we have. Go to the old fashioned ice cream parlor in Dark Harbor -- could be a daily event!! Over 2400 sq ft in our waterfront cottage where you can get away from all the hustle and bustle and really relax. Islesboro is a 20 minute ferry ride from Lincolnville, a few miles north of Camden. It is an unspoiled, quiet place. The nearby towns on the mainland are some of the prettiest on the coast. The house has three bedrooms. Three double beds. There are 500 plus feet of private shore filled with fat mussels for picking at low tide. The island is low-key. We do have many activities on the island in the summer -- public beaches, nature walks and hiking trails, community center activities, opportunities for sailing lessons, etc. -- time spent here is largely about relaxing, ambling around, thinking about what to make for dinner, wandering to the shore and back, looking at the sky and water. It is also an ideal place to do concentrated artistic or creative work. “The island became a retreat for America’s elite in the early 1900’s. Back then it was industrialist Perry Coke Smith, actresses Christie Tiffany and Ruth Draper, Gibson Girl creator Charles Dana Gibson, and yacht designer Clinton Crane. Today it’s actors Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Parker Stevenson (Hardy Boys), stockbroker and influential Republican contributor Richard Gilder, former presidential advisor Hodding Carter III and cell phone pioneer John McCaw Jr. (a former prep school classmate of Bill Gates — and occasional visits by Bill and Melinda).” Downeast Magazine, August 2006. Islesboro is Maine at its best. Our cottage is at the center of all. Overall we had an amazing time in the home and on Isleboro. The house could have been a little cleaner and is need of some home repairs. Otherwise, very tranquil and Alan was a great and responsive host.

House was cute and well stocked with essentials. The views were fantastic and it’s very quiet in islesboro! The house was larger than expected. The only complaint is that the house cleaners and lawn people were sub-par.

My adult children and their spouses and I had the most wonderful two weeks in this house - we enjoyed watching the seals play in the harbor, the Bald Eagle perching on the rocks, and the kayaks in the bay. The morning sun on the ocean was glorious - shimmering like diamonds - and the well stocked kitchen was very functional for family meals and the ability to spread out in the three large bedrooms was perfect. The internet is excellent. Air conditioners were provided and never needed. The host was easily accessible and full of good advice. There is an excellent library on the island and nice trails. Residents are so friendly. We enjoyed the trip so much I bought a house on the island and plan to live there year round!

We will be back!
The property was cute as a minute and a classic Maine coast style / design with spectacular views of the bay. There was abundant wildlife including seals and eagles. Bring your water shoes; It's not a sandy island. With all that splendor it goes a long way to say that the best part of our stay was the warm, friendly people of Islesboro. We will be back!

Our two weeks in Islesboro were wonderful. The home was comfortable, the property was well kept, and we enjoyed the quiet. We really appreciated that we could bring our dog on vacation and the home was family friendly for our 1 year old son. From the start, Alan was very responsive to our questions and very helpful with suggestions about the island. This was a perfect introduction to using this site and we now have a standard for future vacations. We loved our walks on the beach (especially our dog), hunting for fresh mussels, watching the lobster boats and ships sail past, and kayaking.
One important thing to note, the ferry back to the island stops running at 5pm, and you have to be in line by 3:30ish to make sure you make it back to the island on time - so you have to plan accordingly for meals and your day trips.
The sunrises were amazing and the quiet of the island was very peaceful. We were very happy to spend 2 weeks there this summer and plan to do so again in the future.

What a wonderful location on the island for slowing down, taking a deep breath, and relishing life on Islesboro. The lovely home sits in the middle of the island so it's easy to go up-island or down-island. Plus you have a true sense of privacy. Adirondack chairs that sit next to a short drop-off overlooking the Penobscot Bay or sitting on the property's beach were our family's go-to places to read, zone, meditate, or write. Even our 2 teens got into this pattern. They also thoroughly enjoyed the provided kayaks w/ PFDs for exploring the calm bay. Poking around on the property's beach, especially at low-tide, with no time constraints --- heaven! The island has 2 small markets (Durkee's and Island Market) that have a surprisingly nice variety of groceries/household supplies and each are a very short drive from the house. Be sure to research your food options & store hrs ahead of time so you know what you'll want to bring with you from the mainland though. The home has a generous amount of towels/linens and a nice variety of kitchen pots/pans/dishes, including an outdoor propane-fueled lobster cooker. Free WIFI is available 24/7 just a 10 min walk down the road at the public library. Thank you Alan for making your home available for those of us that relish living a more quiet, serene life, even if just for a week.

Lovely Spot
I had the pleasure of staying for a week at this beautiful spot. It was my "Mother's Vacation" so I was alone, but had my husband and children (11 & 16) joined, they would have enjoyed it as well. The house has gorgeous views and the private beach is easily accessed for beach combing and swimming. The house has beautiful high ceilings and a wonderful dining room with French doors that open to the view of the water. This would be a great spot for a family, even with small children. The owner is fantastic.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation home
What a lovely cottage! Our family of four (with kids aged 2 and 4) stayed for a week this summer and had a wonderful time. Well-equipped, peaceful, and with great views. Alan provided us with all the information we needed to enjoy the beautiful, peaceful island. Earl's lobsters will be especially memorable!

Perfect Get-a-way for the summer!
We travelled to the island for our summer week vacation. We could not have asked for a better place! We all said that it had the best views on the island! The house was well maintained and provisioned for cooking each night! Plenty of cooking supplies and a large refrigerator to keep all of your leftovers. We had our two children with us, ages 8 and 5. They had a blast walk up and down the path to the beach, building forts and stacking rock as well as a few fairy houses we added to the magical property. We would recommend this spot for families or couples. The island is very quiet, perfect for a off-grid get a way! Thank you to Alan for providing such a wonderful house!
