\"Sunset Serenity\" on Waneta Lake-Visit the FingerLakes, Wine Trails & upstate NY
About this cottage rental
On the east side of Waneta Lake, this 3 season Lakehouse is centrally located in the center of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. 50 feet of private lakefront with dock on a gently sloping deep lot. This quaint cottage has 3 bedrooms, (1-Queen, 1-Full, a semi-private room with twin bunkbeds) and a pull out queen sleeper sofa on the enclosed sunroom. 1 1/2 baths (shower only) with a large dining room and a spacious enclosed sunroom to enjoy every moment the lake has to offer. A smaller kitchen with plenty of storage, which is equipped with many necessary appliances to make your stay more enjoyable and less worrisome. Our well is new with a UV filter in use so there is no sulfur odor and the water is safe for drinking right out of the tap. Dine at one of the two tables that can seat 6 guests each with space to spare. After dinner, view the serene sunsets from your choice of 2 outdoor decks or the stone patio at the waters edge. Light a crackling campfire in the fire ring on the lower patio or if you aren't up to building a fire, turn on the propane fire pit on the lower deck and relax in your wicker swivel chair as you watch the beautiful sunset. Sit under the shaded trees slowly swaying in the hammock or bask in the sun on the stone patio. A large level yard, front and back, perfect for horseshoes, badminton and other yard games. Enjoy your choice of shows on one of our 3 flat screen TV's with numerous cable channels and wireless internet for your convenience. Waneta Lake is known to be good fishing for large mouth bass, pickerel, blue gill and more, but perhaps the most popular is the large muskee fish, which we hear jumping at night, however, we generally are only lucky enough to catch the small sunfish and perch. :) Sunset Serenity has a 50 foot dock to fish from although the waters are still a bit shallow for the "big" fish from the dock. We do have a row boat, as well as a canoe for three with stabilizers, and a tandem kayak for two that you are welcome to use. If you have your own boat, there is a launch at the south end of Waneta Lake which connects to Lamoka Lake, as well. There is room to dock at the lakehouse during your stay. Plenty of opportunity for boating, swimming, fishing, touring wineries/breweries, or being a spectator at Watkins Glen International, which was recently voted the best NASCAR track for the 2nd consecutive year. You will be within 30 minutes from the Finger Lakes Wine Trails, Watkins Glen State Park, Watkins Glen International Race Track , Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, the Corning Museum of Glass, Keuka Lake, Seneca Lake, Lamoka Lake and so much more upstate New York has to offer.

Great location to hike to waterfalls and explore antique shops. Beautiful in October with all the changing colors. Hosts were extremely responsive.

We enjoyed the house, the lake, and the location.

The camp was in a great / quiet location. Well equipped with everything you might need or have forgotten. To many weeds to fish or swim from dock but was supplied with 2 person open kayak, row boat and 3 seat canoe all suitable for fishing.
Shower was small, shower head low but usable shower to tight for sister in law to use.
A great restaurant within walking distance. We had a slight problem with cable connecting which owner quickly helped us by a couple phone texts.
It was one of the more enjoyable rental experiances we’ve had.

We had a time. The owners were wonderful. The location and lake are really nice. The cottage could use some updates but overall great time!

We enjoyed a wonderful time at the lake! The view was breathtaking and the sunsets gorgeous. We took day trips to the explore the local parks and pick your own produce venues and Sunset Serenity made a perfect base and was a welcome place to return to. Our pup loved the clearing across the street to play ball and the complementary treats. The humans loved the kayak, fire table , games, s'more supplies and grill.

Overall we had a nice time at the lake house. It was very clean. One of the bedrooms doors had a broken hinge. Wasn’t a problem for us because we just used the other bedroom but was never mentioned before hand. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and the fire pit in the evenings. The location was a quick drive to Watkins Glen.

Very relaxing getaway. Cottage was very clean and tidy on our arrival. All the amenities you could want are provided. Very thoughtful "homey" touches of inspirational bric-a-brac were a nice touch. Tiffany was very helpful with our questions.
Being from the area, we knew what to expect as far as the lake conditions, but this years' drought has really intensified the seaweed issue, so we couldn't do any swimming or fishing..
Not to worry.... the views and the mornings on the deck were amazing ! One word of caution however... the afternoon sun makes the decks practically unbearable ! Bring an umbrella or some sort of sun shade!
Another suggestion I would make for the owners is to install/upgrade the lighting on the steps to the decks...
Can be pretty tricky to negotiate at night..
Overall very pleased with our stay and would do it again !

Great property and location for relaxing family visit
We stayed at Sunset Serenity following a family wedding. The property and house are great cottage accommodations, with lots of comfy indoor and outdoor seating right on the lake. We spent many hours enjoying the view comfortably from the deck, and dock. The house are s well- equipped for a family vacation with thoughtful items such as fire puts, kayak & canoe, beverage fridge, games, puzzles, books.
B it is also close to Keuka Lake, watkins Glen and other nice areas to visit. With a store and restaurant just around the corner, you don’t need to go far for most anything you may need.
B highly recommend this B place for a family or friends group looking for a relaxing waterfront vacation.

Million dollar view!
We enjoyed our stay at Sunset Serenity! We couldn’t get enough of the view and the outdoor space. The cottage is rustic with a couple of plumbing issues but it has all of the amenities you could need. Tiffany was responsive and helped with any questions. The cottage served its purpose and was comfortable and relaxing. We especially enjoyed how peaceful the lake was and we took lots of pictures of the flora and fauna.

Sunset Serenity was the perfect weekend escape and gathering with friends. It had everything we needed, it was sparkling clean, and is right on the lake. And Tiffany even had some local winery samples and S'More fixings ready and waiting on the dining room table! We would return in a heartbeat.

Outdated
The shower was tiny, the shower head was leaking and there was zero water pressure. Made showering after longs days of hiking and exploring a hard and time consuming process for a family of 5. The sheets provided smelled musty like they were left damp for too long or haven’t been cleaned properly. Property didn’t seem well maintained. Outside furniture was dirty and seemed like it was just left as is from previous guests. Just an overall outdated property and wasn’t very relaxing experience.

My wife and i met our son at Waneta Lake, which was half way between our residences. Ours in Ohio and his in NY.
What a wonderful location to relax and enjoy the many levels of this property leading down to the lake. The home was clean and well equipped for our needs. When a propane tank ran out another was delivered almost immediately. Close to the awe inspiring Watkins Glen Gorge and the Glenn Curtiss museum there was plenty of day trip options before coming back to enjoy the house. And of course the wineries.

Back on Waneta
We lived on Waneta for many years and this was the first time we had all (my parents, brother and his family and myself & my husband) had been together to stay the weekend since we sold our place. It was great to back on Waneta, though the time felt too short. Sunset Serenity was a great place for us, it slept 6 adults and a baby well. We had some meals out and some in, kitchen was well equipped with what we needed. We enjoyed a campfire and s’mores (what a nice treat to be left for us) on Saturday night. The front sun room was the best part of the cottage, big enough for everyone to sit and talk and a great view of the lake. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Million dollar view
My favorite part was sitting on the deck of the house early morning with a cup of coffee just watching the lake. At night watching the storms roll in over the hills was beautiful. There is also a lower deck with a real nice gas fire pit too. We spent our evenings on the stone patio with the wood burning fire pit right on the lake. We had really hoped to spend our days fishing, but fishing from the dock was no good. Too many lily pads (but they were gorgeous!) and too much seaweed. The row boat is solid wood and there was no way we would have been able to drag it out of the lake had we tried to put it in. There is a 3 person canoe under the deck, but again, very large (almost the whole length of the deck) and we didnt try. There is also a 2 person kayak which my husband did take out on the lake for a bit. I do wish the row boat was fiberglass and more manageable though.
Inside there is plenty of room for sitting and living on a rainy day....tons of games and a big tv with lots of channels on the porch which also faces the lake. The kitchen is fully stocked with any tool you will need. There are 3 bedrooms and the beds are comfy. There is one shower. The shower isnt extravagant but does the job. It does leak pretty bad though, but we put a hand towel on top of it to control the spray.
All in all, we were able to bring our dog with us and had a wonderful time. We had all the beauty we can possibly soak up with the location with all of the convenience of home.
The owners were very responsive and nice too. Thank you for the wonderful getaway!

The cottage and decks are all nice and a great place to hang out. Enjoyed staying there. It felt like home; comfortable, spacious, and welcoming.
The only negative was the seaweed situation which prevented any swimming in the lake.

We really enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and TIffany was kind enough to provide the ingredients for s'mores, which thrilled my kids. There were plenty of games and toys for my young kids to play with and we enjoyed playing some games as a family. We appreciated the use of the canoe to better enjoy the lake as the shoreline was too weedy to play in much. There was a small issue with having the correct size bed linens ready for us, but after a little communication with Tiffany, she fixed the issue quickly.

Our stay at Waneta
Nice place. Like the amenities but a little disappointed that there so much grass our granddaughter couldn't fish from the dock or put her paddle board in right there. Overall we enjoyed our week there

Tiffany and Bill are very gracious hosts. The lake house was nicely appointed and we lacked nothing to make it seem like a home. The lake is very weedy and shallow. One night, around 10:30 we went outside on the deck to look at the full moon, and locked ourselves out of the house. B& T came right over to open up the house within 1/2 hour.

This property is right on the Lake and as quiet and peaceful as anyone could ask. Our 11 year old dog Bonnie got to take her first canoe ride. The owners not only provide the canoe, but also stabilizers to go with it. This made for safer ride with a large dog that had never seen a canoe before. The indoor sunroom at the rear of the cottage features an air conditioner, large tv, and sofas that make it the perfect place for dinner and relaxing in the evening.

This was a wonderful fall getaway for my wife, toddler, dog, and me. The area is gorgeous, and the house was comfortable and thoughtfully stocked. Tiffany was super responsive - at pretty much all hours - with our questions, and accommodating to our needs. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect Family Getaway
We truly enjoyed our time at Sunset Serenity. It was a perfect family vacation spot. We were supposed to take a family vacation earlier in the year but the covid shutdowns changed all that. My husband and I still wanted to plan a getaway this year with our four sons ( ages 17, 15, 12, and 10). So we shifted our attention to the Finger Lakes, which is always been a favorite vacation spot for us. We found Sunset Serenity and it seemed like a great fit for our family.
And it absolutely was! The cottage itself is older but has lots of charm and felt homey the moment we walked in. The front room facing the lake has phenomenal views and is so comfortable!
The bedroom situation also worked well for us. Our oldest son took the smaller bedroom off the kitchen. My husband and I had the larger bedroom with attached bath off the dining area. Our younger two shared the bunk area. And our 15 year old took the pull out couch in the front room. We all enjoyed having our own space.
The really incredible part of this property is the outside space. Essentially there are three different levels that you can enjoy. There's a deck off the house. A few steps down from that is another deck area built on the middle part of the yard with a propane fire pit and super comfy seating. A little further down there is a stone patio with a large fire pit and more seating.
We enjoyed each and every bit of those outdoor spaces. We built a fire in the beachside fire pit a couple of nights and could hear the large muskies splashing in the water as they were doing their nighttime feeding.
Speaking of fishing, our 15-year-old is an avid fisherman. He only caught one small yellow perch during our time there. But he did take the boat out a few different times and knew he was getting nibbles. He just couldn't seem to outsmart the fish this time.
I had a couple quick questions at the very beginning of our trip and Tiffany was very responsive and friendly in her communications.
I absolutely recommend their property! They have quite a treasure. And Waneta Lake is quickly becoming one of our favorite lakes to stay on when we are in the Finger Lakes. We have stayed on Keuka, Seneca, Lamoka, and Waneta. Waneta is a great lake for families. We felt totally comfortable letting our boys take out the kayaks and other boats without worrying that the lake was too overwhelming.
Thank you to the Hills for sharing their home with us!

Sunset serenity was a perfect weekend getaway. The neighborhood is quiet and the view is pretty in the fall. My husband fished from the dock, while I relaxed On The deck. Two of the evenings we built a fire. So relaxing! We had supper one night from the Waneta Inn. I love the front room with the big windows. I enjoyed coffee there every morning! Thank you for a great stay!
