About this house rental

Nestled in Harlem, this lovely house for $413 per night is a great option for your next vacation. This is a beautiful brownstone that we lovingly rebuilt as our family home (picture no roof, floors, plumbing or electric). It is MUCH larger than most homes in the city of New York. A generous, agreeable home in which to relax and enjoy all that NY has to offer. In a city where more than half the apartments are 700 square feet or less in size, with 2,800 square feet this is incomparably spacious (no one has to sleep in the living room) and comfortable and priced for affordability. We do have a strict no smoking policy and require quiet evening activities. The expansive first floor of the brownstone has soaring 12 ft ceilings, a gleaming fully equipped kitchen w/washer and dryer, a comfortable living room with large flat-screen television and a dining room with an extra wide table that seats 8 plus diners. There are four ample and pleasant bedrooms. On the third floor, one bedroom has a king sized bed, one cozy bedroom has a full/double bed and one bedroom has two full/double beds. The Main bedroom on the second floor has a queen bed and large en suite bathroom - soaking tub, heat lamp and separate toilet. The office has two couches that can fold out to full/double beds for more options. There is also a snug reading nook on the second floor with a single foldout. There are 2 full bathrooms and one half bathroom, one on each floor. All linens are provided for your stay. There is a lovely south facing perennial garden with lilacs, peonies, wysteria, hydrangea and more. Perfect for coffee in the am, an outdoor play space for children, or al fresco dinner at twilight. Wake to the twittering of birds in the middle of the city and forget where you are. Please, no smoking indoors and no loud parties. This is not a hotel but a private residence in a neighborhood with families. The cleaning fee is included. Our cleaning people are trained in disinfecting and practice thorough high-touch area protocol. It is easy to get everywhere. Subway/MTA - just 2 blocks from the 2/3, 5 blocks from the A/B/C/D - three stops from mid-town/Times Square - 10 to 18min. If you prefer, LYFT or UBER anywhere. SUPER easy to get to the house from the LGA airport via direct M60 bus or from JFK or EWR by subway and of course you can also take a taxi or shuttle Metro-North Commuter train - 125th Street station is five blocks away, 45 min to Connecticut. Local Dining has boomed in the last few years with some real standouts all walking distance – Red Rooster, Barawine, Settepani, BVLD, Corner Social, Sottocasa (pizza), Chocolat, Amy Ruth's, The Cecil, Il Cafe, Streetbird, Ponty Bistro, Moca, B&K French Cuisine Sylvia’s, Maison Harlem, Patisserie des Ambassades, Shrine, Serengeti Tea Shop and many more, all fantastic and some just steps away! This house was a great fit for our family of 7 adults. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was well outfitted. Plenty of hot water. Lots of stairs but we knew that going in. We took advantage of the online orderimg (before we left our home) and pick-up (the first morning after we arrived) option at the Whole Foods which is two blocks away, as we have family members with a lot of food preferences/allergies and it worked perfectly.

Overall the house was just what we needed to make our stay in New York comfortable. The house was large and the rooms contained all necessary items to make our stay homey. I was surprised to find there was only soap available in one of the three bathrooms. Neither of the showers included shampoos, soap or lotion. Also, the kitchen sink had no dish soap. I purchased these items because we needed them quickly after getting to the house. The owner did offer to purchase or reimburse me but I did not request repayment. It would be best if these items are available. Also, there was at least one light out in every space from the living room to the kitchen, making evening time very dim. She did offer to come and replace bulbs but I would prefer to not be the person to update the owner on the status of their home. It seems pretty basic to come by after someone stays and ensure that all items are up to date and ready to go for the next paying customer. The owner was very agreeable and readily available, so check before your arrival to be sure all basics are in place for your arrival. Be aware, there are steep stairs when getting to the front door and all bedrooms are on the second and third level. The area was well suited for need to be near Columbia and there are many great amenities within walking distance of the house. I would stay in this home again.

We travelled to The Big Apple to celebrate my Mother’s 60th Birthday! We had a group of five and stayed for three days. The location was perfect! Near to food, public transit, and entertainment, and quite spacious. Overall, we enjoyed our time in NYC and Tina’s home. Tina was very responsive to our concerns. However, there were a couple of issues that would make me hesitant to book the property for a future stay (unless resolved): 1. The shower on the 3rd floor had draining issues. Guest who showered on the 3rd floor stood in 1 ft. of water as they showered. Also, there was a bar of soap left from the previous guest with strings of hair on it. Yuck! 2. The sauna did not work. Bummer! We were looking forward to relaxing in the sauna after our days of NYC walking. Tina stated she recently had the sauna repaired, but clearly it had stopped working again. She offered a $50 gift card for the inconvenience. Please check with Tina prior to your travel to see if the sauna has been repaired if this is a feature your group is looking forward to.

This brownstone house was exactly what we were looking for. We had 6 people and it was plenty of room. I think the best part of the home was the size and the location. 6 women felt very comfortable walking the neighborhood shopping and for dinner. The owner Tina responded immediately to all questions and was extremely helpful with minor issues and information on the area. I left off the last star because we didn't realize the number of stairs we would be climbing regularly but really should have because it is a three story brownstone, not that we didn't need the exercise! Also there was some water damage but Tina was very responsive and apologetic. Kitchen was very well stocked and we enjoyed cooking there. Thank you Tina for a wonderful stay!

Great property with plenty of everything (beds, towels, plates etc, food in the cupboard...). Interesting neighborhood with good transport links, super market, and places to eat out. Great host, responsive to all our queries.
