About this farm stay rental

An elegant and beloved Island landmark, this classic Maine farmhouse commands magnificent, permanently-protected views of Seal Cove Pond, Western Mountain and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island’s “Quietside.” Built by James Studley Powers, a sea captain, circa 1887, the house is a magnificent example of Victorian architecture—spacious and light-filled, with high ceilings and wood floors, two carved fireplace mantels and many other original details. The Farm at Seal Cove Pond is an unusual combination of charm, refinement and comfort; formerly the working farm that produced the Seal Cove Farm goat cheese, it has today the feel of a tranquil estate. The period timber frame barn borders fields of wildflowers and raised gardens. There is a shaded terrace for outdoor dining, which includes a grill, table with benches, and 7 adirondak chairs. Five acres of fields, lawn and woods contain lovely walking paths, blueberry and raspberry bushes, pear and apple trees, ornamental shrubs, and many varieties of hardy evergreens and hardwood trees. The additional 6 acres on Seal Cove Pond is a birder’s paradise for viewing eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, owls, hawks, and red-winged black birds, among many other species. Directly across the Pond lies Acadia National Park with all it has to offer for natural beauty and recreation: the sunrise over Western Mountain, the call of loons, and boundless opportunities for hiking, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, swimming, fishing, and star gazing. The sparkling waters of Blue Hill Bay are less than 5 minutes away, easily accessed by a public dock and boat-launch at Seal Cove. Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor—15 minutes by car—offer a wide variety of shopping and restaurants, including Thurston’s Lobster Pound, in a quintessential Maine harbor setting. Conveniently located but private and peaceful, The Farm at Seal Cove Pond is a property ideal for all ages and interests—a rare opportunity to treasure a piece of Maine’s heritage in a stunning farm setting. Seal Cove Pond encompasses 283 acres, and is stocked with brown trout, small mouthed bass, and pickerel. The ponds eastern shore is Acadia National Park, and there is access from both the edge of the property, as well as from Acadia, via a park road. The Bangor Daily News recently published an article on the Farmhouse Titled "Built by a sea captain, full of light".

We had another wonderful week at Seal Cove Farmhouse! The property is beautiful & our grandchildren enjoyed the toys, books & games available. The location is perfect for our family, since we love the “quiet side” of the island, especially Southwest Harbor, Seawall & Wonderland. Marc is a very responsive host & goes the extra mile to ensure a great experience for his guests. Thanks for another memorable family vacation!

We loved our stay at the Seal Cove Farmhouse. Plenty of room for our family to gather but also have their own space. We did a lot of cooking, and the kitchen had everything we needed. We especially appreciated being able to access the trails nearby or go swimming at area swim spots without having to go the busy east side of the island.

Location couldn't be better. This farmhouse is perfectly located for family members who have diverse interests....close to easy and more strenuous trails, biking, kayaking, shopping, eating. We enjoyed grilling, playing badminton, blowing bubbles, and walking around the gorgeous property. The rooms/bathrooms were just what we needed to accommodate a baby and a 14 year old, 2 older adults and 4 younger adults. The kitchen had everything we needed to make home-cooked meals and the living spaces allowed us to be together without being on top of one another. Marc was a joy to work with.

We had a wonderful early October family vacation in the farmhouse - me and my husband, our toddler and infant, and both sets of our parents, with plenty of space for all of us. Truly, the pictures can't do this home and the property full justice! We felt so at peace from the moment we arrived - the late afternoon sunlight through the house in particular is just pure magic. The house is spacious and warm and welcoming, and we could really feel the rich sense of history. And the property! We loved the views, and taking walks around the garden and various paths. We were happy to not be closer to town and the hustle and bustle, though it was still a reasonable drive to anywhere we wanted to go on the island. This place is a treasure, and we'd most definitely stay here again!

I've booked a lot of VRBO stays throughout the years and this Tremont, Maine farmhouse was one of the best! We loved the "Quiet Side" of MDI, but all the hiking, canoeing and shopping was within easy driving distance. The farmhouse is beautifully decorated and full of all the amenities. Marc was helpful and we appreciated him letting us have a garden bridal shower for my niece since all the family was gathered in Maine for the 4th of July holiday. I would highly recommend this "magical" place. P.S. I gave 4 stars for the check-in because we had a little difficulty with the key lock box, but after several tries, it worked. But that was only a minor problem that did not affect out stay.
