The location and idea were great, and breakfast! It was just outside the walls, so we had a nice evening and morning walks around Obidos Castle.
Sadly, it was a big disappointment to us. For 2.5 weeks stay, I only had one location that I really wanted to check out. But as soon as we entered, it smelled mouldy. The old walls, the books, reclaimed wood cladding even in a bathroom, it looked good but wasn't. Only the restaurant had a nice smell in the evening, and there was live music. The food was good, but the portions were very small, hardly any additions to meat. There's been a lot of impractical things, like huge wooden bits on key rings, poor lighting in a bathroom, and receded mirror (my husband couldn't shave well despite very good eye sight). Arranged around books but no good place to read them. Plus, I don't think I'd like to touch theirs. Mould can cause respiratory disease, so I advise against staying there.

Very pleasant room, loved having a hotel and bookstore in same setting. Staff was helpful and accommodating, a good choice of breakfast items. Location was perfect, just outside the gate to the old city.

Bathroom, decoration of the hotel
The staff was not kind at all. The breakfast had flies lying on top of the food. The mattresses were old and not comfortable.

Almost everything.
my wife missed having a mirror on our room and a hygienic shower.

The common areas, the restaurant and the books. The concept itself is great.
The bedrooms need serious upgrades. From the mattress to the washroom it all felt rundown.

Excelent breakfast in a beatiful place. Worth going for sure. Kids (teens) loved it. We also had dinner in the premisses, worth it.

The food at the restaurant is fantastic , although the service is average.

The location of the hotel is fantastic, the public areas are impressive, the thousands of books all over the property are stunning, it's a slightly magical feel. Buffet breakfast excellent, with lots of choices and thoughtfully arranged food. We were a little picky and asked for espresso (vs. the coffee on offer at the buffer) and the breakfast staff was immediately accommodating and instantly jumped to the espresso machine
The bed was extraordinarily uncomfortable (thin mattress, flimsy frame, no support, tiny thin pillows). The bathroom was poorly lit and did not feel clean. I'm sure it was (there was a very strong smell of cleaning product, though not a pleasant one), it's just that it was entirely done in cement, with a swoosh of yellow paint somehow embedded within the cement, tub-side. While I appreciate the design intention and originality, it had the unfortunate effect of making the bathroom seem unclean. This was not the case in our daughter's bathroom (room next door) which featured proper tiles etc. I fear there is a lot of dust in the air, overall, and that the books may unfortunately be the culprit. There is an in-ground plant bed in the lobby, in what was clearly once open-air area and now covered with glass (quite clever, architecturally) but no one has bothered to do anything with it. It's just dirt and weeds, which is so easily corrected and could look so much more charming. The receptionist (afternoon & evenings) could have been a lot more welcoming. It is certainly challenging to communicate with masks and when we don't speak the same language, still, I believe there are ways of showing more warmth and care, even with those 2 obstacles.

I loved the overall experience. Staying right outside the castle in a place that was once a convent was super cool and interesting. The breakfast was delicious and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
The bathrooms have little room for doing makeup and hair if you are a woman. The beds were not soft, but we only stayed one night.

The breakfast was really good and the hotel is full of atmosphere. BUT there is no wifi in the rooms and the electricity kept turning on and off. We were there for two nights and didn't have electricity the whole night, so we couldn't charge our phones or see anything. The wifi doesn't work in the rooms and the people who work at the reception just said that they couldn't do anything about it. So if you want wifi and/or electricity that you can count on, this hotel isn't for you.
The wifi and the electricity. Especially the wifi. We only choose hotels where we can use our computers and phones, we couldn't do that here. If you don't need wifi, fine, but it's just so annoying when hotels write that they have wifi and then they don't.
