Will meet your needs but very bad internet

The rooms had everything you needed with decent bathrooms, a hot plate, sink, toaster, microwave, and outdoor porch with a mountain view. A powerful heater was able to heat up the room easily on cold days.

The WIFI was atrocious. Don't expect to be able to do much of anything with it. The soundproofing on the walls was also somewhat lacking. Room size is adequate but not generous.

Perfection.... the views, comfort of room and such a friendly helpful welcome and at all times.

Stayed 4 nights. Such a very lovely friendly welcome, super helpful. The ever changing mountain view from our room was hard to leave behind, so enjoyed just sitting outside after a day's activities with a glass of wine, watching the changing scenes, the bird life and the visits from the such healthy looking cute two chickens and a quiet Cockerell, what a delight and bonus. We wish we could have stayed longer, but a hug from 'mum' when we said goodbye set us nicely on our way.....we have a feeling that we will be back.

Worth booking.

Views were stunning. Short walk to a lovely restaurant. Tea and plunger coffee available. Easy check in/out. Hot shower with heater for those cold nights. Excellent value for money. Wish we could have stayed longer

The bed was a little bit soft which can sometimes give me back ache but actually quite comfortable.

The views were amazing. The room was fresh, newish and warm. On ground level and easy to get to and check into .

Very good

We had 2 rooms next to each other as requested. Thank you. Both rooms had good alpine views. Location of the motel is perfect to go to Lake Matheson - it is about 4 kilometers away. Restaurants are nearby on the same road (Cook Road).

staff tried to help but the hot water facility was problematic

There was no hot water in the shower and we had to change to a new one and had same problem

We loved the mountain view and the proximity to Fox Town and Lake Matheson

The shower was not good and seeped water onto the bathroom floor.

Location and facilities were good given it is a simple motel with a nice view of the Mountains

location was very good and room comfortable ; amazing view of peaks

they failed to mention that we shouldn’t drink the water; this should have been clear when we checked in and with a notice by every tap; thankfully we have not been ill

very nicely designed motel. quiet and with great views through expansive glass windows.

layout of the rooms with expansive glass taking in the views was lovely. we had rainy weather so no views of Mt Cook for us but it was still lovely to watch the weather change over the closer mountains.

In a month of continuous travel around both the islands of New Zealand we stayed in a number of perfectly good places. The Sunset Motel stands head and shoulders above them all. Beside being clean, comfortable, equipped with all it promised, the layout of the garden was cozy, with fantastic views from all the rooms and sitting there in the evening was most enjoyable. The receptionist was kind, helpful and the breakfast was simple but filling.

Great stay!

Great accommodation, our room was ready earlier than normal Check in time, so we could refresh and leave the luggage, thank you! Really friendly staff, good tips about what to see and do.

Good stay

Good location and staff were helpful. Also had quite a nice view however it was raining and cloudy for most of our stay! Otherwise was fine for one night stop.

We were advised we had to boil water before drinking which I thought was a bit odd - some water bottles in the room would have been a nice compensation rather than waiting hours for water to cool down. Also had to take a light bulb out as it kept flickering.

Shower just dribbled hot water then when you added cold the shower went cold plus the tap on the bathroom sink spurted out water. Old plumbing maybe.
