Property is very close to Addo Elephant Park making it super easy to stay over there! Excellent service from their very friendly staff!
Rooms were amazing!

Quaint dung beetle shaped bungalows…intriguingly hidden amongst spekboom lined paths. Great communal African-style lapa and welcome swimming pool.

The location was lovely and accommodation was unique. I liked the outside showers, water pressure was great.
They didn’t tell us until after we booked that there was quite a far walk to the cabins from the parking and no one to help carry your luggage. Unfortunately this was less than ideal as we had someone with an ankle injury. Cabins desperately need some TLC and maintenance. We could also smell the septic tanks when sitting on the deck which was unpleasant.

Peaceful environment
I think the waitress who served us breakfast was having a bad day the coffe was lukewarm & she began sweeping floors & cleaning whilst we were still having breakfast.

Good views
Bush cabin nbr 1 had a broken curtain rail, sliding door that didnt close and a gap between the door post and the door which meant that when temps got really cold - the cabin was freezing! Very low thatch roof directly over the toilet (20m from the cabin) which was not designed for anyone over 5ft.
Wouldnt recommend to anyone. Completely overpriced for what it is.

Unfortunately, there were quite a few aspects of Addo Dung Beetle that we were disappointed with.
When we arrived, the cottage smelled very musty and damp. This did clear up after a few hours, with the door open and fan on. However, it could have been avoided, by opening up and airing the cottage well, before we had arrived.
I realise that the weather is out of your control, but we arrived during a cold spell, and were cold on the first night. We did get much warmer blankets when we asked for them on the 2nd night. However, I do feel that given the weather at the time, additional warmer blankets could have been placed in the cottage for us to use if required.
The little kitchen space was difficult to use. There wasn't really space for putting dishes to dry, and the sink plug didn't seal properly, so water just steadily leaked out when washing dishes. Also, when we arrived, there was water in one of the bowls in the clean cutlery basket underneath the sink. This seemed to have leaked from the U-bend of the kitchen sink.
In terms of the food - the breakfast that we had at the lodge was delicious. However, I was very disappointed with the packed breakfast. The muffins were very tasty, but apart from that, it was rather bland and I didn't feel that enough effort or thought had been put into the breakfast box (which I would have thought was a regular request, given your location on the edge of the reserve). When we arrived on the Saturday, the ladies in the kitchen were not expecting to make us a packed breakfast, although we had previously spoken about this being an option, so perhaps what we got wasn't the normal breakfast box.
In terms of the late lunch on the Sunday, there also seemed to have been a miscommunication with the arrangements. We had expected the meal at 5pm as arranged - and had specifically hurried out of the park to be back in time.

Quirky cottage shaped like a dung beetle. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Dinner and breakfast were tasty. Friendly and helpful staff.

We liked the room, it smelled nice and was clean. There was a superb view and all you need to cook for yourself.
The staff was very nice.
The supper is pricy for what it is. It's a good portion size, but it is not fancy 250 rands food. I could feel some of my food had been reheated and it felt more like a leftovers diner than a fancy diner. There also was a mouse running around our feet while we ate. I don't mind them, but I know a lot of people who would! It might be to be expected being that it is on a farn. And out in the country.

I liked the idea of it, the surroundings and scenery were very nice, the staff was super nice. The bedding smelled good and the room was very cute. They let us try 2 rooms and we were happy because the other room did not disappoint.
I didn't like the dung beetle suite because it was musty smelling, there is a problem with aeration of the shower is my guess. But it smelled moldy. The sink in the toilet looked dirty and there was mold on the wall of the cave.
I think it's a great idea of room, but there needs to be an aeration solution for it to be as comfortable as it could be if it wasn't musty. Glad the blanket smelled so good. The honeymoon suite is 2 twin beds with a connector, which seems a bit odd for a honeymoon suite. If we would have liked to swim in the pool, it was looking super dirty. The jacuzzi was just unusable no water and had lots of sand in it. I didn't know there was one so was not disappointed. I don't know if it's because of low season or what.

Loved the bush experience and the view was stunning. Room was clean and comfortable.
The braai had not been cleaned after the last visitors. The wooden railings around the veranda need securing.

Beautiful views across the valley and surrounding citrus farms, and the bush setting was lovely. We were surrounded by the sounds of birds,, and thousands of swallows swooped around us during the late afternoon. The accommodation was very quirky (loved the outdoor shower and toilet - literally built into the trees). The unit was well equipped. We were there on a hot day and we enjoyed our swim in the little rock pool.
The fan was very noisy.

Breakfast was freshly prepared, with a good variety. The supper was brilliant value for money for a 3 course meal. Facilities were clean and met our expectations. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, giving you a very homely experience and feel to the stay.

The location is amazing. The rooms are large and was clean and neat when we arrived. The staff were friendly but not always well informed.
The room had mice in the roof that was very noisy during the night. The water pump to the room automatically switches on and off every 20 seconds and makes a significant noise directly adjacent to the room that wakes you up at night. The dinner at night is not at all worth R250pp. The dinner on the first evening was bland and basic and definitely not worth the price paid. Our room was not cleaned even once for the entire 3 days we stayed there. When we enquired we were told that they do not know why it was not cleaned but that it should have been.
