It’s a really cool residencia
Kitchen is now closed by a whole, it was much more inviting and friendly when it was open.
Lost power the 2nd night at midnight and it was put back only at 9am. We only slept 2h before check out at 11am, as no fan could work and it was +31 degrees Celsius in the room.
The hotels along the beach are killing the whole vibe si used to love in Tulum

Perfect location just near the beach and easy access to the main stretch of bars and restaurants in Tulum Playa
Nothing!

I liked everything in this place. Located at the main avenue of Tulum, with great staff taking care of me, gave me a very nice and warm stay at Gorilas. Armando is very nice and helped me out with outside activities. The place is clean and it’s very well located. Recommended 100% if you’re visiting Tulum in 2023 or later on

ambience, location and vibe is right
lack of interest to help when I had a leak on my room and couldn’t stay there

Receptionists are friendly, and there are some cute cats within the building
Payment is a nightmare, and the price is really rounded up by the manager so be careful with this since you are loosing a lot of money. No hot water in the shower, no electricity for some hours in the morning. Swimming pool very small and always in the shade so not very fancy and useful.

Worse accommodation experience ….
We had to leave this property after the first sleepless night because of the following reasons:
- noise from the generator next door is very loud and it smells like burnt gasoline, it felt like in gas chamber;
- lots of noise from the street
- no a/c in the room and it is very hot to sleep at night, you can’t open window because the street noise will keep you awake;
- there was no hot water when we arrived;
- wi-fi service is very unreliable;
- there was no electricity in the morning
We read reviews very carefully before booking but none of the reviews indicated about all the issues we witnessed. I wonder if those are even valid reviews…
Apparently, the property owners have to deal with unsatisfied customers a lot because they demand the payment right away outside the booking payment system even though it says to pay upon arrival when you book.
We tried to get some money back for 3 nights that we did not use, but they never returned any money.
Would not recommend this property.

The location was good because we spent most of our time in NOMADE hotel. We can keep our luggage in property after check-out. But everything else was horrible...
Our room didn't have any windows only some wood decorations with mosquito net, but definitely did not work, mosquitos were everywhere. Next to the our room was big diesel generator and you can imagine the noise from it. I have to sleep with earplugs and big headphones, but still heard it. When we arrived at hotel our host wanted to pay more then Booking showed us, because we choose card payment... Absolutely don't know why. It was incredibly cold there overnight and in shower you have only cold water. The bed was spotted and dirty and no talk about dirt at the floor. The door has lock like in stone age and if someone wanted to rob us, it won't be problem... Definitely the worst accommodation I have been to...

The location was great, the pool is refreshing, I wish it was on beach side but you get what you pay for. It’s a lot prettier than on pictures though and I really liked the rooftop with the little swing.
It is really hot in the room which isn’t a big problem if the fan is on but the power went out in the middle of the night and I woke up sweating at 4. Couldn’t go back to sleep. We went down to ask someone but no one was at the property. No staff, no security. Impossible to stay in the room longer, I messaged the host on WhatsApp to ask where we could leave the key for the check-out because no one was there and no response which is fair enough, it was early and he was probably sleeping. We checked out at 6 leaving the key hidden in the room and I sent a photo to the host to let him know where to find it. 3 days after, I still don’t have a response from them

The place is really cute. The pool is the plus. There is not access to the beach but Armando suggested us two places near by.
Maybe they can have an arrangement with a beach club that we can go straight to them.

It's close to beach access. That's about the only good thing I can say about this place.
The pool was drained, my electricity went out in the middle of the night for almost two hours when there is no ac and only a ceiling fan to keep you relatively cool. Then the next day my water goes out as I'm in the middle of a shower getting ready to go to dinner. Waited more than 30 minutes with soap all over and finally got fed up and finished with bottled water I had bought. Absolutely terrible experience. Would never recommend this place!

Actually nothing. But to be honest - we booked 2 rooms and one was like 3/10.
1. Parking is a nightmare. in the middle of water and mud puddle, leaving by 5 cm from the each side.
2. One room was 2. floor in the road side building (room was looking ok), another one was bungalo style in the yard building. Looked better as it was far from the road, but read on.
3. The hotel is stated to be 70m from the beach. On the gps, yes. But in real life there are resort hotels at the beach and you cannot pass them to access the beach. You have to pay 20-25 USD per PERSON to get there. Or make a round ca. 500m. It is very annoying. And it´s definitely cannot be called "70m from the beach".
4. And then the night came. The room in the road side building was full of road noise. Constant noise of the generators, but the main problem is road- trucks were passing by until the midnight and then they came back at 05:45 so you can guess the quality of sleep there. But the sleep in another room was catastrophic. In Tulum there are 2 options to get electricity - sun panels daytime and generators at nights. Just under the windows of the bungalo room, ca. 10m away there are generators of the cross-road resort hotel. Noise was kind of you are at the factory. But what´s the most problematic and most dangerous - the exhausts were going straight to our room (no windows or doors, just the mosquito nets). Imagine you are trying to sleep behind the working vehicle. It stinks and it´s poisoned, so you have a risk not to awake in the morning. The owner of the hotel told us that these are not his generators and he cannot do nothing. The cross-road hotel who owns generators said that it´s usual here and that´s how it is. So again question to the Gorillas owner - that people know the problem very well but still are selling the bookings for this room.
So it was absolutely impossible to sleep in this bungalo room, so at 1 o´clock at night we had to find a new hotel and relocate there. Next morning managers refused to refund even at least 50%. Phone is not answering.

Location was nice, staff were friendly and informative. We were able to park our vehicle out front and the pool was a nice place to cool down. Other guests were polite and pleasant. I'd go back again.
No complaints, the place was a bit load at times because of street traffic in the early mornings but that was expected. Still had a terrific stay.

The property did not have hot water! They didn’t let us(girls) use our blow dryer and our straighter because the lights would go off. How are you supposed to get ready if you’re on a trip!!! Also rooms at night were also super cold since they did not have any windows. Got home sick

We stayed only one night, but it was very nice. :) It turned out that the room we had booked was not available because of power shortage. Instead we could stay in a way bigger room with kitchen facilities and with additional bedroom. It was located away from the street, so it was very quite and private. The room was very clean as well.

There was no AC and fans were barely working, so it was really hot at night, which made it hard to sleep. The staff charged us additional 10% for paying in MXN. There were lots of cockroaches in the common areas. The "loft" wasn't really a loft, but more like a room in an attic.

The staff was very nice. The room was comfy. There were nice places near by (walking distance). The pool was small but it was great for cooling down.
Our room was very hot (no A/C) and it was right next to the pool so we could not leave curtains open for fresh air to come in at all times (glass door to enter the room right in-front of the pool). If people were using the pool, there was noise. So privacy and noise were our main issues with our room (maybe other rooms don't have these issues)

I like that they do have a communal kitchen. Just don't leave any personal items to dry in the dish rack.
This was my second time at Gorila. I liked it so much the first time I booked again when I returned to Tulum.
Sadly, the place is in decline. There was major structural damage as well as a lot of superficial stuff that could easily be taken care of.
Most of the staff were very unfriendly and the owner would come by putting everyone in a state of terror.
I was told that I could access the beach either through the restaurant across the street or via a smaller bungalow hotel just a few meters up the road. Both of them stopped me from passing through and were even a bit hostile towards me.
But the worst part was when the owner had a hissy fit and tossed nearly all of the plates, bowls and glasses in the communal kitchen INCLUDING MY PROPERTY. The staff seemed too afraid to tell him about it and proceeded to just bs me about replacing my item and or paying me to replace it.
I was so disappointed as I loved it the first time I stayed. Super chill vibe, good location, except for no beach access, and a great price.
That no longer exists.
