Location fantastic; description not up-to-date. The sand dunes block the view of the ocean and make access to the beach more difficult than described. House cleaners take everything they can (toilet paper, food staples (ketchup, mustard, spices), soaps. Blankets dirty, piled in closets unfolded. Ice maker barely working, making about a dozen ice cubes daily. Response to calls for service took 3 days to acknowledge. Other than that. . . .

The house had a great open layout and the ease to get on the beach was amazing. The furniture was older, but fine. The house was not fancy, but made for a great beach vacation. Was able to walk to dinner and other places.

We’ve stayed in several beach houses along the NC coast and this one was one of our favorites. Beautiful beach front view, well stocked kitchen and plenty of seating and beds. The outside shower with warm water was a glorious decadence and the on site washer dryer were clutch as well. The house sits right next to a public access which meant a little less privacy than some of the other homes on the strip but it also meant the life guard station was close which we really appreciated with our young kids. It was our first time to kill devil beach and found lots to love. Beach was beautiful and clean. Not really any shells worth picking up, but we saw dolphins almost every day and hunted ghost crabs every night - one of my kids’ favorite beach activities. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing your awesome coastal retreat!

We had a great time. This place is the perfect location on the beach! It made it very easy to come back and forth with all our beach equipment . We enjoyed sitting out on the back porch in the evenings and watching the sunrise in the morning! Kitchen had everything we needed to make home cooked meals. The whole trip was very relaxing.

As part of a huge overhaul to save the homes on the beach the town created big huge dunes all along the beach in front of every house. And the only beach left was a quarter of what it used to be.

Fifth time staying at La Dolce Far Niente. The ocean views from the back porch cannot be beat. Direct access to the beach as well from the back porch. Although the cottage is next to a public access, the dunes beside it provide a nice buffer. La Dolce Far Niente is our home away from home. Plan to stay again next year.

The kitchen was well equipped.

The home smelled musty and we did clean regularly - but found a lot of sand (from previous tenants) under the couches and beds. The bath smelled and I couldn't scrub it away. The rugs were filthy. I didn't call about the cleaning as I didn't get great responsiveness from the call about our tv not working.

There was a tub of linens in the driveway. We didn't order them or use them.

We called in about the main tv not working and no one came out due to storm preparations. We were 24 hours without tv in the main living area - with a major storm coming in. We never got the tv (very old) in the one bedroom to work either. Disappointing service. We weren't sure if cable was down or we hit a wrong key. We never got help. After waiting for hours - we spent two hours time checking on it all ourselves - since no one helped us - we got it going. Not how we wanted to spend time on vacation. Nor did we want to be without storm updates!

The washer dryer is on the lower level in a locked space. I was surprised by that. The dishwasher is facing the eating area. Both great to have and obvious add ons that aren't in the most convenient spaces. The cabin is small. But I was happy to have them.

It's a rustic beach cabin. With amazing views. With great access. At a reasonable price. With air conditioning! So the rest is a matter of conveniences that are important to you. Cleanliness (I can clean - it didn't work) and the mustiness/odors were killing my allergies.

The lack of responsiveness for the tv with a storm coming was a grave concern and was not handled. TVs are easy to mess up with all the wires, remotes and tech. Not ok!

The front storm door was hard to close in the storm. Or use! The doormats had sharp

Definitely dated, a few changes could really 'cute' the place up a bit but otherwise it was comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. Be careful with the kitchen drawers, as it would be easy to pull them all the way out. The blender was broken and the dishwasher is on the wrong side of the counters (see photos) but otherwise the kitchen was serviceable. The cottage is located right next to the public right of way so it does get a bit busy on that part of the beach but it was tolerable. The life guards chair is stationed here as well which I always find comforting! The covered porch facing the beach was one of the best parts of the house. We spent many hours looking at the sea, watching a fabulous storm and enjoying the outside. The queen size bed was very comfortable with nice pillows. The most important factor of this house was it's proximity to the beach so we were happy. We could easily go back and forth to the house for a break or lunch etc which is what makes the whole experience so much more relaxing. Dogs are allowed, so I would say the house was clean when we arrived although the previous white, fluffy, fido hair balls were blown from under furniture etc by the AC! Again, not a big deal, as you are sweeping up the sand that always manages to sneak in anyway. There's a hose pipe near the front porch to easily wash the sand off as you come off the beach and an outdoor shower which makes it very handy to get the whole family clean without much waiting (given that there are two bathrooms inside as well). The experience is exactly what we expected with location being the key. Thanks for a great holiday!
