Wonderful place and people
The lodge is beautifully set in the middle of the jungle next to the river. The staff was very helpful with organising further travels, everyone was genuinly friendly (they made me feel very welcome), and Orlando was a great guide for exploring and learning about the surrounding forest and its inhabitants. I recommend it to everyone whose budget allows for this luxury experience in nature...

Dreaming of being back at Guacimo Lodge.
We loved everything about our stay at Guacimo Lodge and wish we had stayed longer! Getting there- The owner, Manuel, organized every aspect of our transfer to the lodge from San Jose, Costa Rica and onward to Ometepe Island so our travels were safe and SO easy. Communication and coordination between all of the drivers/captains was flawless and Manuel even had someone waiting for us at the Nicaraguan border to assist us through immigration. The Lodge- The staff at the lodge were attentive and highly skilled from first contact to departure. The food was fresh and delicious and all of our requests were accommodated with a genuine smile. The rooms were our perfect idea of “rustic luxury” with beautiful natural building materials, a comfortable bed, and breezy nights with screens to keep out the bugs. One of the highlights for us was the view from the rooms, which has to be the best in the area! The owner has put great effort into employing locals and conserving the forest in the area. The activities- We did many of the tours offered by the lodge and loved all of them. The guides were fantastic, spoke perfect English, and really went above and beyond to make certain we had a wonderful experience. Overall, our stay at Guacimo Lodge was our favorite part of our month long trip to Nicaragua. We loved the El Castillo area, the friendly locals, and the lodge felt like a jungle paradise. We look forward to returning for a longer stay in the future to spend more time enjoying the lodge and exploring the Indio Maiz Reserve!
Nothing! We wished we had stayed longer!

Amazing!
Guacimo was the first place we stayed after travelling across the border from Costa Rica at Las Tabillas. They helped us with the whole process which made it really easy - you can pay for a ‘meet and greet’, which we opted for, and one of the team will come and meet you at the border to help you with the process. If your Spanish is fine then you don’t need this as it’s super simple to cross here. We took the private boat transfer but you can also take a taxi to San Carlos and get the public boat. Either way the trip is very special - we saw howler monkeys on the way! Guacimo is a very beautiful and relaxing place to stay - you are surrounded by nature and we felt a million miles a way from London. The view from our bedroom was incredible. The team are really helpful (e.g. setting up our local SIM card) and we did a couple of great trips into the reserve. You should ask if they can get the river shrimp - they were delicious, more like a lobster! We then took the night ferry from San Carlos to Granada, which left at 5pm and arrived at 6am in Granada - you can book the ‘suite’ (which Guacimo helped us with) which means you have the only cabin with bunk beds and a bathroom. Would highly recommend Guacimo!
When we stayed we were the only people there, so they didn’t have everything stocked on the menu - which we understood as they didn’t want to waste food. The options we did have were delicious!
