Last year the kitchen and bathroom was slightly outdated, so we were very delighted, that the cabin has undergone some renovations.
The cabin's next neighbors are the other 15 (?) cabins on the same property and the cruise boat terminal in close proximity. The location of the cabin is definitely the biggest plus of the accommodation: the cruise boat right in front of your doorstep and the starting point of your climb up to Saanatunturi about 100 m further. Also a nice extra is the little hut on the shoreline, so you can have a BBQ with excellent views to Malla nature reserve and Kilpisjärvi lake.
Beware! Bring your own sheets and towels - renting them is currently 12e/person :)
Mattresses were very outdated and definitely would need renewing!

I really liked the cottages at Kilpisjärven Retkeilykeskus. I was in a cabin right next to the lake and the cabin had everything I needed. Accept maybe WiFi access but you could get WiFi at the main building. Also the sauna next to the main building was great. There is a very good restaurant there, where you can also buy sandwiches for your hikes if you want. And a lovely souvenir shop.
Many nice hiking trails starting almost directly at the location. In early June one should however bear in mind that there can still be snow on some parts of the trails - or otherwise lots of water. Good waterproof shoes are helpful.
Oh and the best thing are of course the reindeers which run freely around the cabins and can be watched through the window or from the terrace. :)
When you arrive, like I did, by bus and without your own car, you should note that the next grocery store is 5 km away and there is no sidewalk on the road. It probably is best to bring all groceries on the first day.

Perfect location, really friendly and super helpful staff, basic small cabins, but with all facilities needed. Retkeilykeskus is more than just accommodation, but also information center for tourists, trekkers and hikers.

The location is great, lovely view from the cottage, quiet and yet close to the hiking centre and trails. The cottages are a bit older, but very well kept, super clean, with new bathrooms and well equipped kitchenette - and our dog even got a little welcome present, which was the best! The staff was very friendly, the cottage warm and cosy, and there are even options for dining and sauna available.

The location was perfect. One can basically start the hiking from this cottage to Saana or take a boat trip to the three country cairns.
The cottage is rather basic, but it has everything you need.
The check-in process was slow. We arrived at 14.30 at the cottage and they said you have to wait until 15.00 to get the key. After travelling so long and staying in so many hotel in that trip, this was a bit letdown.
The cottage could improve itself by doing some renovations. It looks like nothing has been done since the 90's.

Excellent location. A cute cottage by lake Kilpisjärvi.
The shower was quite poor (no pressure).

Awesome location at the foot of Saana with view on lake Kilpisjärvi
There was no pot for cooking in the kitchenette. Mattress was a bit too hard for me.

Excellent, helpful and friendly staff: whatever I needed help with, they got it. Warm and comfortable cottage, it was nice laying underneath a warm blanket, listening to rain and wind. Underfloor heating in the bathroom is excellent for both comfort and drying wet hiking boots and other gear. Restaurant has big portions of tasty food. Excellent breakfast. Scenery and hiking trails are out of this world.
