Tucked away in one of Nova Scotia's most picturesque fishing coves, this artistically designed house, guest cottage and estate provide a tranquil setting for peaceful relaxation. The gardens have been featured in several magazines and books for the unique design and rare flowers, trees and shrubs. This is an ideal setting for a family getaway, in-laws included. It is equally well suited for 3 - 4 couples to share a spacious yet cozy home while exploring Canada's Ocean Playground. Come back from a day of travel to the sounds of the waves breaking on the rocks and restful open ocean views. The open concept main floor has many features of the original homestead, including wood floors, exposed beams and a large fireplace. There are wide windows to enjoy the garden views and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. The living room has plenty of comfortable seating and is decorated with an collection of original artwork by Maritime artists The hand-crafted kitchen is a chef's delight with new state-of-the-art appliances, stone countertops and a view of the ocean. Your dining companions can enjoy a drink around the island while you prepare fresh lobster caught by local fisherman in Indian Harbour. The dining table can seat twelve and there are three stools around the island. Downstairs there is a comfortable den with a large L-shaped sofa, where you can kick back and watch a movie on the flat screen TV (Roku enabled) or quietly read a book. There is a laundry room and a walk out to the garden from this level. The master bedroom is just a few steps up from the living room, just past a powder room. This bright and spacious suite boasts a private balcony, perched above the garden, and has a comfortable queen sized bed. A walk-in closet and ensuite bathroom (with soaker tub and tiled shower) complete this comfortable room. Upstairs there are a further three bedrooms; one with a queen sized bed and the other with a double bed, which share a four piece bathroom, with a shower/tub combo. There are two staircases (one's a secret staircase) that lead to the fourth bedroom - a fun and quirky room for the kids, with a small play area and two twin beds. The detached guest cottage is the perfect place for a couple to stay if they want privacy and is also perfect for parents with a baby or toddler. It is a restored stone barn, and the original thick rock walls are still intact. The cottage is bright and loaded with character. There is a bedroom with a queen sized bed and a separate living room, with L-shaped sofa and a table and chairs. A modern bathroom, with tiled shower and ceiling shower-head, complete this unique space. Outside, there is a spacious deck which is the perfect place to relax, watch the ocean, and enjoy a glass of wine from one of Nova Scotia's many award-winning wineries. Maybe you'll see hummingbirds looking for nectar in the garden while you enjoy your morning coffee or pick out the constellations at night over a glass of wine from one of Nova Scotia's award winning wineries. The table on the deck seats up to 10 under and a gas grill makes outdoor dining easy. Feel free to pick some fresh herbs and lettuce from the kitchen garden, they are plentiful! The gardens surrounding the house are filled with paths leading to the rugged waterfront - the perfect place to look for seaglass and hermit crabs - or put on a wetsuit and snorkel in the crystal clear waters. When you're done exploring, relax with a book in the shade of the waterfront gazebo. It's a picture worth a thousand words!

We were family of 8 women. Sisters, mothers daughters and nieces. The space was huge,And cozy at the same time. 3 bathrooms in the main house made for no having to wait in line ! Lol Unfortunately it rained all weekend so we didn’t get to really enjoy the outside property as much as we would have liked. Our host was great and quick to reply. Easy check in. We will probably be back , we enjoyed it that much.

Shared the space with 5 lovely ladies with plenty of room for our own bedroom and lots of common space. Small beach too bad about the rain.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped with a great variety of plants and proximity to the water. I think I even spotted onggi-like crock in the ground?! The house is spacious and accommodates a group well.
Our stay was prematurely ended by Hurricane Fiona's impending arrival, but we still think the property management could benefit from learning about a few improvements. These are a few points I'd like to share because we thought the $$$$ cost of the rental should've reflected these. Please-
- Absolutely ensure there is on-site drinking water available prior to guest arrival. We didn't use the tap/well water as requested by the property management, so we had to drive back out to Tantallon to get water.
- Replace blown lightbulbs in the house, especially in key areas such as the bathroom and kitchen prep areas. Or, leave the home booklet (nowhere to be found) and supplies in a common easy to find area, so guests can replace the bulbs themselves.
- Notify guests of the ongoing problems with the house prior to their arrival. The kitchen stove was not in good working order and drastically impacted our stay. The gas would keep going out on multiple burners, so we could only reliably use one burner. Unfortunately that one working burner was the high BTU one, which made it difficult to cook anything below a high sear.
- Inspect the house cleaning before guest arrival. The cabinets and drawer handles and faces were very sticky and visibly dirty. The first time we pre-heated the oven, it filled with smoke because of old food (oil?) in the bottom of the oven. The bath linens also strongly smelled of mildew, so we needed to wash all of them prior to using.
Overall, we fully acknowledge it was just nice to have a roof over our heads, beds for sleeping, and a pretty view. Thank you for the opportunity to rent this property.

Lovely home and extraordinary coastal landscaping.
Very clean, aesthetically pleasing home. Interesting original art and comfortable furnishings. Very much enjoyed the wood-burning stove and the comfortable, oceanside deck. We have been to many mid-range to high-end rentals and this one had the cleanest and best-working gas grill.

If you choose Sea Garden, you'll be choosing a top-notch oceanfront home rental in a highly desirable area. The home is wonderfully appointed all around - the listing photos capture it very well - with highlights being the private master suite, the lovely upstairs 3 bedrooms (they share one bath), the spacious living spaces, kitchen, dining, powder room, etc. There's a cozy basement reading and media room with a wood burning stove. And of course, there is the private guest cottage. Lovely. While the structure has references to an older, authentic seaside home, it has clearly the modern and clean kitchen and baths that make for creature comforts. Beyond the structure, you will be treated to an award-winning garden and peaceful oceanfront. On our last night there, a seal decided to have dinner on a rock! We offered her a nice Chenin Blanc to accompany her catch, but she declined and decided to be on her way.
The location of Sea Garden within minutes of Peggy's Cove, the peaceful memorial to those who died in the 1998 Swiss Air 111 crash, and restaurants such as Rhubarb's and L'Acadie. Sea Garden is also just 40 minutes or so to all the amenities of Halifax.
With any review, I will always have a suggestion or two for the property owner/manager. In this case as with so many home rentals, the kitchenware could be upgraded a little (Sea Garden is actually better than most in my opinion) and be a little more organized. Aside from any small improvements, you cannot go wrong with this rental! Lovely, peaceful, dramatic, and comfortable. You will get the rest and peace and beauty you came to Nova Scotia to experience.

We could not have been happier than we were at Sea Garden last week. A group of 9 people from all over the US convened in this beautiful home in Indian Harbour and had a wonderful week of fun. We were very busy out and about seeing the peninsula but it was so lovely to wake up in the morning in such a comfortable home, stroll through the garden down to the ocean with coffee and a book and take an hour to welcome the day before we'd be off on our adventures. In the evening, we'd lounge around the spacious living room and enjoy a nightcap - plenty of spots to sit and laugh about the day's antics.
It's easy to get just about everywhere, from the Annapolis Valley to the wineries in Grand Pre' , down the South Shore to Lunenburg and into Halifax for a little jazz festival nightlife. We watched the sunset over St. Margaret's Bay and went next door to get lobsters from Ryers for a big night in.
The house is well stocked for just about anything you might need - even had a big lobster pot and tools to get them open. The water bubbler was a nice added bonus as well and we enjoyed taking the telescope out on the deck one evening to look closely at the moon.
The house itself is a gem (and that's an architect's opinion) - it has such old Nova Scotia character, while also feeling new and clean. I loved all the level changes and the reclaimed doors and windows, as well as the quirky features like the fun back stair and the timber posts and beams. Each room has its own character and unique view of the ocean.
The gardens are spectacular - we timed our visit perfectly; everything seemed to be in bloom the day we arrived. I said that it felt that someone had run through the yard with a paintbrush.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us - it is definitely a little slice of Paradise. We can't wait to come back!

A Wonderful Experience
Our family of 8 (6 adults and two children) clearly agreed that when you arrive at Sea Garden you appreciate how difficult it is for pictures to capture the comfort of the house and the beauty of the property. Praise comes easy because we had such a wonderful experience.
The house was very comfortable for the eight of us and the owners provided everything we could possibly need for cooking, entertainment, etc. Jeanne Hoare was the agent that helped us process the rental and answer all questions before we arrived and when we were in the house. Very professional!!
This was a first clas exprience for all of us. Thanks to all who made it happen.

Amazing place to spend time with family
We had the best time at this house! It is such a gorgeous setting, right on the ocean with the beautiful gardens to wander through.
There were 12 of us and we were quite comfortable; enough space to not be on top of each other and we always found ourselves gathering in the kitchen/living room.
When we arrived, we went through the very comprehensive notes that included where to find nice beaches and where to buy/how to cook lobster. They were put to good use!
The beach kept the kids busy, searching for shells and treasures while the adults could relax at the gazebo. Nightly fires at the beach gave us a chance to watch the sunset
We are so glad we found this special house and hope to return one day!

Magic on St Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia
Words fall short in describing this haven on the rocky coast of Nova Scotia. We were married 41 years ago at the Head of St Margaret's Bay, and have been away most of those years. Returning here to Indian Harbour was blessed, in many ways.
We arranged a reunion with old friends from Washington State..and had fortunately found this gem on HomeAway.
The house is splendid, and very clean. The layout is perfect for a gathering of friends. The guest house is to fight over..a little quiet oasis. The bedrooms are beautiful..the master suite amazing. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment..lobster pots included, and top of the line appliances. It has a wonderful, open gathering space.
The grounds are worthy of Tolkien..paths of moss, native plants, ancient shrubs, splashes of colour..and lead to the ocean side, where a beautiful gazebo awaits you, and a cup of morning coffee.
Nearby..an amazing lobster pound, Peggy's Cove, and the Peggy's Cove trail...wild, heather strewn ocean side rock scape, without the tourists!
Our host was incredible..we needed to adjust our dates at the last minute, and our host accommodated our need.
This is actually a 6 star place!!

Amazing Thanksgiving Weekend
Our family had a wonderful stay here. The house was perfect for our Thanksgiving weekend with lot’s of space for everyone and it had everything we needed. It was close for excursions to Peggy’s Cove, Halifax and other towns along the lighthouse trail. The ocean view and grounds were beautiful. Would definitely stay here again!

beautiful house and gardens by the sea
I'd love to come back here every year! The house appears to be recently renovated - modern kitchen and baths, in colors and materials I would choose for my own home. The inside of the house is well laid out and is great for hanging out as a group. Nice kitchen for cooking. The beautiful views from inside only get better as you go out into the garden to enjoy it! The property leading down to the sea is amazing and there is a lovely gazebo near the water to relax and luxuriate in the surroundings. It's also a short (less than 5 min) drive to the quaint town of Peggy's Cove as well as many hiking spots along the sea.
