About this villa rental
Modern comforts in the exclusive charme of a period villa with breathtaking views, swimming pool, gardens, terraces and spacious garage. “PORTA DONICA”, nestled on the beautiful Amalfi Coast, is an elegant private villa which blends the magic atmospheres of the lovingly preserved ancient structure with all the amenities of a modern renovation. Relax by the swimming pool, the ancient belvedere, the plentiful lemon trees and enjoy the efficient lodging and open air reception facilities. Origins: Origins: the current villa rose in the early 20th century around the ancient tower dating back to the 11th century. This tower, opening the way to the flight of steps that to this day leads with a ten minute walk to the Duomo, was the main gateway to the then flourishing city of Ravello. It was Porta Dominica and its name underwent successive alterations first changing to Porta Domnica and finally to Porta Donica, eventually lending its name to the flight of stairs and the entire district. This historically rich landmark is now conveniently accessible by road and is halfway between the contemporary beauty of the newly constructed auditorium (a design donated to the city by Oscar Neimeyer) and the famous SS. Cosma e Damiano sanctuary. The Villa: The villa: from the road you access the property through the garage (which houses up to 3 cars) and make your way to the higher floors either by taking advantage of the internal elevator, or by climbing the indoor stairs framed by the scenographic backdrop of the exposed rock formations that constitute the building’s foundation. The unique architectural structure of the villa houses 5 bedrooms (for a total capacity of 10 individuals), each with its own independent bathroom, a great living room with a large fireplace, an elegant colonnade patio, steeping agricultural terraces and outdoor dining area with verandas and well equipped indoor and outdoor kitchen areas. Other convenience features include central heating, air conditioning, telephone land line, satellite TV, and Wi-Fi DSL connectivity. Outdoors: as convenient as the indoor quarters are, you will mostly enjoy the elegance and relax of open air living by the garden and dining areas overlooking the outdoor swimming pool and the breathtaking view of the coast. A small kitchen, BBQ, pizza oven and toilette serve the area and the lawns, terraces and walkways shaded by lemon trees offer variety and privacy. The orchard will delight you with fresh salad, vegetables and fruit. Events: the structure is well equipped with ideal areas to host private banquets and receptions. Both of the owners’ sons tested and perfected these facilities by hosting their wedding receptions in the villa. Rent: the villa is available for rent on a weekly basis to private clients, either families or small groups of friends.

Gaetano and Giuseppe were fabulous hosts! Both were invaluable with coordinating transportation, activities and reservations.
The Villa itself was spectacular and views were even better than the listing advertised. Location could not have been better. The walkway up into the heart of Ravello was right outside our door. There was a great little am cafe a very short walk to the right and a delicious pizza place just to the left. Turns out Marco owns both and he was another gracious host.
Bring your walking shoes as that is the best way to get around the area, and the enormous multi level villa. It is all best enjoyed by fit people, as most all Italians seem to be!
Thank you for a great trip!

the house has million dollar views and accomodation. it is built into the mountain so thgere are lots of stairs , so not for anyone feeble or has trouble walking or is out of shape, its 187 steps below the square so you will need a car or walk to everything.

A family group of 11 stayed at Villa Porta Donica for 6 days/5 nights. Although very quirky in layout (with many levels of stairs ensuring lots of exercise) because it is built into a cliff, it worked perfectly for us. We cooked and ate most meals there (dinners always at the outdoor dining and seating area) sometimes supplemented with Amalfi lemons growing on beautiful property, walked up to nearby Ravello and down to Amalfi (took taxi back), and when there hung out around the pool or in the living room. The property manager and wife were most helpful arranging a chef for a special dinner, giving us contacts as needed for taxis, and suggesting where to shop for various items needed, and helping us figure out where to park cars ... The only problem was there are no directions at all in the house, which made it difficult to use the appliances or even to know initially which way to walk to town! As for Ravello, it is quieter than the more popular Amalfi coast towns, which was to our liking.

Loved Ravello and the Villa Porta Donica
Everyone in our group was thrilled with my choice of Villa Porta Donica. This villa is spectacular! The view is breathtaking. There are so many lovely balconies, patios, and outdoor areas on many levels. The pool was cleaned daily. Someone also came to clean the villa and change bedding and towels. The water pressure is excellent. There are indoor and outdoor kitchens, so if you can't find something you need in one, look in the other. My grandson picked lemons, and we made lemonade. There are many steps inside, and there are many steps to get into the town of Ravello and to the beaches. It is a bit of a challenge for the elderly with regard to the steps, but that was expected when we booked. We were sorry about an unfortunate delay at the airport that caused us to arrive in the middle of the night, which was not ideal for our host. When you book drivers or tours in Ravello, do so through the host. The host booked a ride for us from the airport to the villa, and I had booked a tour for the next day that caused some confusion. I think all of the local drivers must work for the same company. It all worked out fine in the end. It would have been helpful to have a welcome packet or booklet with information about the area with directions and contact information for private rides, a bus schedule (bus stop right in front of the villa), restaurants, groceries, etc. However, we managed to explore the area, and we found our way around for what we needed and wanted to see. We were all happy that we chose the magical town of Ravello and Villa Porta Donica for our trip to the Amalfi Coast.

This is a fantastic property, but there are a few issues I wish I'd been aware of before booking.
First though, the views, location, privacy, and gardens more than make up for the "cons" I'm mentioning below. So if these issues aren't deal breakers for you, then don't let it stop you from booking this incredible home.
Ok so LOTS of stairs, but that's typical of the area. The strangest thing about this house is that there are two kitchens - both outdated, and both inconveniently located. The first is in the house, but on the bottom floor, far from the living areas. The second is outside - upstairs and across the yard from the pool. This makes getting coffee or snacks or cold water very inconvenient from inside the house. If you are planning to eat out for all of your meals then it's not a big deal, but it was definitely annoying at times. We found ourselves looking for items that were in the "other kitchen" that required quite a hike to obtain.
Also, while there are loads of espresso cups in both kitchens, there is no espresso machine, just the small stovetop coffee pots, which are inconvenient to use. The outside kitchen has an old, basic coffee pot, but honestly for the rental price this house should have a small espresso machine in each kitchen. You can buy them for around $100 and it would make life and mornings easier and more enjoyable for guests.
That being said, Tano recommended a bar down the street that had amazing cappuccino and pastries - and incredibly cheap. The owner Marco is friendly and efficient and also has a delicious pizza place up the street where we ate several times - also on Tano's recommendation. Tano suggested some restaurants up in Ravello that were fantastic, and also set us up with a number for a boat that we hired for the day to tour the coast. Side point - Tano is a fantastic property manager and every single thing he recommended was top notch.
Another issue to be aware of is the pool. It's shaded all day and freezing cold, but the most important issue is that the tile stairs leading into it are very slippery and one in our party fell on the way in and had a huge bruise as a result. There is a railing, but you still need to be extremely careful getting in and out.
We enjoyed the fresh figs, grapes, and plums that were ripe in the garden, and there was wine left for us in the mini fridge, which was also nice. I'd stay again, but hopefully with coffee next time.

Family holiday to the Amalfi Coast
We are a family group of 10 people who have just arrived back from our wonderful holiday. We were wanting somewhere quiet but also in a convenient location. This quirky villa was perfect for us all. The lay out took some getting used to but this added to the excitement for the younger ones of our group. The views are breathtaking and there are many seated areas around the beautiful gardens to take it in. The kitchens are both well equiped and everything we needed was available. There are quite a few steps to get up into the town but was easily done by my 76 year old father in law, I should add he is fit for his age. The owner told us about a local bus that stopped directly outside the villa and charged us €1.00 each to get up into town, it was always on time and dropped us directly where the main bus stop was to get to Amalfi town. My main concern about this holiday was not hiring a car, but I'm so glad we didn't. The transport to other areas, although busy was effecient and cheap.
The owner put us in touch with a local chef who cooked for us one evening, the food was amazing and there was plenty left over which we used the following day. I would highly recommend their service.
We definitely made the right decision on Ravello for our destination, out of the other towns on the Amalfi coast. They were all beautiful but very busy and we were always relieved to get back to the peace and tranquility of Ravello.
Once we had booked this villa the owner was very helpful with any enquiries before our holiday. He was at the villa to show us around and was available throughout our stay for any enquiries and he also booked us into a pizza restaurant a minutes walk from the villa, great value for money with excellent views and just what we needed after a day travelling there. There is also a quaint little bar down the hill, literally 5 minutes walk. We sat outside under what the children called a cave. The service was pleasant and the prices were good too.
We definitely had a wonderful family holiday in this beautiful location and we made the right choice with Villa Porta Donica.

Fantastic...
This was our second visit to Porta Donica, and it couldn't have been nicer. The location is perfect, incredible views, quick access to town. And Tano is the best, he makes everything easy. It's a unique experience, wonderful. Thanks, Tano...

This place is amazing!
We had an incredible time at Villa Porta Donica! The house is amazing, expansive, clean, well equipped, well situated and charming. Check in was easy and welcoming. The house manager, Tano, is lovely and always easy, informative, quick and friendly to communicate with. We spent most days by the gorgeous pool constantly astounded by the view. It was super relaxing yet close enough to the centre for everything you need and the hustle and bustle of village life. A very special please! We look forward to staying again.

Ravello wedding week
Our family loved this property. The house and grounds were spectacular. Well located with access to both town and to Amalfi. There are a lot of steps here - nothing new on the Amalfi coast. The elevator is a godsend - to aid with luggage and one in our party rode a scooter. The setting is perfect.

Wedding Week Rental - Absolutely Sensational
My Fiancé (now Husband) and I stayed at this property for the week of our wedding with our close family and it was absolutely sensational.
The property manager (Tano) was amazing. Really helpful and attentive prior to and during our stay. He was very informative and quick to respond on any questions we had and helped us to arrange a small gathering of family and friends for pizzas after the wedding.
The house itself is spectacular. The grounds are huge, the views out of this world and so authentic and romantic. Would go back there year on year if we could.
Not great for those less able as lots of stairs and quite a walk up to Ravello (that said Ravello itself has lots of steps :-)) there is a lift from the garage to the ground floor and parking for 2 spaces which is great.
Can’t recommend this property more.
Thank you again tano. See you next year for our first anniversary.

Breathtaking!
We stayed in Ravello in April. The villa was perfect for all of us. 8 adults and 3 children. The views from the villa's many terraces were spectacular, we enjoyed all the lemons and oranges growing on the property, Tano was the most helpful arranging a chef. You will find the villa at the intersection of two staircases that lead to main square of Ravello where we walked to get our morning coffee. The children loved all the little hiding spots in the villa. We truly enjoyed our stay at Porta Donica. The villa was clean and the kitchen was well equipped, the whole property was beautifully maintained.

Fabulous House
We could not have asked for a better setting and villa for our trip to the Amalfi Coast. The villas was amazing!! Tano, was a terrific help. He shopped for us and set up a chef to cook a dinner for us at the villa. The meal was our favorite of our whole trip!! Tano was quick to respond if we had any questions or needed any help. The villa is located within walking distance of Ravello, if you don't mind climbing stairs. Fantastic views!

Stunning location and views
Perfect home for our family during our son’s wedding in Ravello. The views are incredible and the rustic home goes on and on vertically with many levels, stairs, terraces and balconies that were simply stunning. The coffee bar a minute down the road was fun to visit each morning with great sandwiches and atmosphere. The villa is close to town center and if you don’t want to walk up the challenging steps each day the bus runs often, twenty minutes after the hour. Pizza oven up by the pool was wonderful and it was the best pizza ever had, by Salvatore from Sorrento. We eventually figured out where all the bedrooms were and how to get around thiugh the first day was quite interesting...it is a little bit of paradise and we were sad to leave. Thank you Tano for all of your help. Much appreciated!

The view is better than the photos!
Superb characterful house. The views are incredible. We were a mixed group of 6 and there is a huge amount of space. One of the party was 80 and still loved it.
Views are simply amazing.
The only negative would be some pretty hard beds.
The walk into Ravello is challenging for the elderly. We had a car which helped.
Tano was FANTASTICALLY responsive to any minor issues. Th re were a few plumbing problems but that’s life in a beautiful old house.
We would go again without a doubt
Thanks Tano

Great villa with amazing views
Our group of 9 had plenty of space at Villa Porta Donica. There are multiple terraces and patios to sit and relax and enjoy the view. The property is very clean and well maintained. Tano is a great host and was always quick to respond both before and during our trip. I highly recommend booking Chef Lorenzo for one or more of your meals during your stay at the villa. His meals are fantastic! I definitely recommend booking this property if you're looking to vacation on the Amalfi coast.

Amazing view, great host!
We stayed here for a family vacation, we had 10 people (4 families). This villa had a very quirky layout with a lot of levels and stairs but we came to really enjoy the character of the home. Tano was a great host, always available to assist us in every way, from arranging cars, helping with local knowledge etc.
We had the chefs prepare breakfast and a dinner and they were amazing! Food was incredible and they were great with remembering and accommodating our kids preferences.
There are a lot of stairs with every aspect of the stay here, from getting around the house and going to the town square so be ready to get fit!

Outstanding Villa
We had the most incredible and magical stay at this beautiful villa. We hired the villa for ourselves and our bridal party and everyone fell in love with it. The villa is beautifully maintained and has so many gardens and sitting areas that you can sit in a different spot each night. Tano was an amazing host and was very responsive and helpful. He arranged chefs for us for a breakfast the morning of our wedding and they were incredible. We cannot recommend this villa or Tano enough.

A beautiful villa in Ravello!
The villa is well located with gorgeous views. We stayed for little over a week with 4 adults and 5 kids and loved everything about the property and the town of Ravello. There are multiple gardens on about 3 different levels of the property, two kitchens, swimming pool, lemon and orange trees, the list goes on and on. The property manager Tano, is the perfect host. He was always available on phone and in person to set up transfers, guides, restaurant suggestions, etc. We will always pick this home for our future visits to Ravello without hesitation.

Amazing Wedding Trip!
We booked this villa for our wedding in June 2016, and we are so happy we did. Tano was so nice, and helped us from afar at first (responding to emails...etc) and then once we arrived, he showed us around the villa, helped us book transportation, recommended places to go, and arranged a pizza party for us on our last night, at the villa's wood burning pizza oven!
The chefs for our wedding were Lorenzo and Athena Del Pizzo... both were fantastic... we were blown away by the menu when we saw it nearly a year before our ceremony. All of our dietary restrictions were met as well, which was a big relief. Lorenzo met with us beforehand to ensure we were happy with the menu, and they started setting up the day before. The garden was an amazing spot for dinner/reception; the views were incredible, and the food... the presentation for each course, the plates it was served on, the wine which was hand selected.... everything was so delicious!! Everyone had such a great time and loved everything prepared for us. I'm not sure what my favorite course was, but the Delizia al limone cake (which was our wedding cake) is definitely in the top 3, along with the fresh seafood pasta. The next day Athena prepared breakfast for us which was so nice... it was great to wake up and have coffee, warm croissants, and homemade jam waiting for us! Both are such warm, lovely people as well, and we had a great time with them!
In summary; this was the best trip ever and I highly recommend this villa as well as the Del Pizzo's to cook for you!!

Amazing property and views
We spent 5 days here in May and it was absolutely wonderful. The views are stunning. The terraced yard offers lots of areas to relax. The yard is very well groomed. We spent most of our time near the pool and on the grassy area and covered patio. Morning coffee overlooking the view and evening wine and dinners were wonderful. The house is also great, with multiple levels and plant of bedrooms for the 7 of us.Tano really made our stay great. Very easy to work with him and he arranged our drivers, cook and day out on a boat. Lorenzo, the chef, and his wife, Athena, were wonderful. They cooked for us 2 nights and the food was amazing. Lorenzo's menu's are great and it was very easy to work with him. I would stay here again, just for the view and peace.

Heaven on Earth
We spent a most wonderful 6 nights at Villa Porto Donica as part of our daughter's wedding celebration. The villa is situated below the town square of Ravello and has an incredible view of the mountains, towns below, and the sea. Upon arriving, our jaws dropped as we scrambled about the home choosing bedrooms and planning how we would spend our "villa days". There are many levels and we thought it would take us the whole 6 days to figure out how to get from one room to another, but we did that easily.
It is beautifully furnished - we didn't want for anything. Have to say that we were a bit disappointed that the main kitchen was not centrally located nor did it have a cappuccino machine. Tano, the excellent property manager, suggested that everyone enjoys walking down to the nearby bar/cafe for their morning brew. He was right - we loved joining locals at Marco's! Speaking of Tano, he arranged rides, tours, a pizza dinner and gave recommendations of restaurants. We were a bit daunted by the stairs which lead from the front door of the villa to the square. But after taking them several times, we were thankful that they provided much-needed exercise before and after the wonderful local food. The property is magnificent - beautifully maintained and immaculately cleaned. Everything down to the bed linens was lovely. It was the perfect place for our family to stay while in Ravello and only added to the happy spirit of the wedding. We will dream of returning one day!

Great stay during wedding week
My family rented Porta Donica the week of my wedding in Ravello. It was a dream place to stay and it was so difficult to leave. The villa is spectacular, and though it is kind of a maze with the different rooms and kitchens and everything, you really start to love its quirky configuration after a while.
It is really the MOST stunning spot on the Amalfi coast, so perfectly situated with the views from the rooms, the lovely gardens and pool, and the dining terraces. We could spend all day sitting by the pool on the comfortable chairs, with breaks at the shaded upper terrace for meals and drinks. The villa was equipped with all of the amenities to make for an incredibly comfortable stay and great for entertaining both families during the wedding week.
Plus the house manager Tano is so accommodating and friendly and helped us arrange cars to town for the wedding, a trip to Pompeii and Positano, and a fabulous pizza party using the villas pizza oven. SO delicious and fun! My whole family absolutely loved staying there and would come back in a heartbeat!

Dream villa in heart of Ravello !!!!
My family and I were completely, yet pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the villa was. Not just the property itself, but the views! We felt so lucky and privileged that we were able to stay in this incredible, luxurious, yet unpretentious Italian home. The villa was immaculately clean and had all the kitchen utensils, wine glasses, everything you need! The fresh fruit from the trees was a treat as well! Tano - the property manager played a very big role in making sure our stay was comfortable and amazing! He is extremely professional, friendly and very well-informed about where to buy groceries in town, where to eat, etc. He organized an incredible pizza party for our wedding guests (rehearsal dinner) and very very organized overall. This was the first time my family went on a vacation and he helped make it so special! The private pool, and outdoor breakfast patios we're here we spent the most time to enjoy the views. If you want to have an intimate, fun, luxurious experience in Ravello, this is the place to go!! I can't say enough good things :) Grazie mille, Tano!!!
