WATERFRONT COTTAGE on 53 acre private preserve, pet friendly
About this cottage rental
Located in Westport, this attractive cottage for $427 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. The DAL House is a renovated, antique, Cape Cod, cottage that sits on the edge of Heal Cove on Westport Island, Maine. The house is part of the Hubbard Point Trust, a 53 acre private land preserve that is also home to the Dunn House, which sits on the western shore of the property. The houses are close enough to rent together for a larger group yet far enough apart that each is very private and quiet. Just .2 mile walk down the driveway. The Hubbard Point Trust is a true “get away from it all” location yet just a short drive to Route 1, midcoast attractions, shopping, antiquing and dining. Staying at the Hubbard Point Trust is like staying in your own private park. Hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming are all possible as soon as you step out the door! The DAL house has a large sunroom/family room, kitchen with large dining area, a large first floor bath with washer and dryer, and a spacious first floor master bedroom. The second floor has two more bedrooms and a loft area with an additional twin bed. A first floor bath, bedroom and rear entry ramp make this house very accessible. You will never want to leave the sunroom with three walls of sliding glass doors that lead to a stone patio in the front with the sweeping lawn that leads down to the cove or the large, sunny deck in the back. Relax on the comfy couch(which is also a pullout bed) or in one of the club chairs or the recliner while looking out onto Heal Cove and it’s islands while being surrounded by the Maine woods. A peaceful retreat to read, relax, meditate, practice yoga or even watch tv. Feel the cool breeze blow in from the cove while listening to the shorebirds and crickets. Watch out over the cove to see gulls, osprey, loon, bald eagle and the occasional lobster boat pulling up their traps or kayakers exploring the cove. You will never tire of the incredible view! Enjoy coffee in the dining room while the sun rises over the cove. Grill a steak on the Weber charcoal grill on the deck or cook up a lobster dinner in the cottage kitchen and enjoy your seafood dinner while the cool shore breezes blow in. After dinner you can star gaze while you sit around the fire pit and roast marshmallows. The spacious first floor bedroom has a queen bed, new pillows and crisp sheets. Read a book or watch a little tv on the love seat. Wake up to the beautiful views and sounds of the cove. On the second floor you will find two bedrooms and a loft area with a skylight. Each bedroom has two twins in each and fresh bedding and pillows. There is also an additional twin bed in the loft area. Both rooms have views of the water, forrest and the barn. The large first floor bath has a combination tub/shower, a double vanity, and a washer and dryer. The Hubbard Point Trust is 53 acre private preserve that is yours to explore. Water access is right outside the front door. Fish or swim of the rocks right down in front. Bring a kayak or canoe and drop it in Heal Cove, a tidal cove. We also have suggestions for rental equipment nearby, they will deliver. Bring your boat and launch it at the nearby town landing. There is plenty of parking at the house for your boat. Hike along the shore line and through the woods with its tall pine and low-lying fern. Follow the marked trails and make your way to the point, a great place to watch for seal, to fish, or have a picnic with a stunning view. Take your bike out on the long driveway and out for a spin on the rural roads of Westport Island. The Hubbard Point preserve is a dog's paradise that offers acres to run and fun places to swim and cool off. We are pet friendly and will consider a well behaved dog. Please inquire about our policies regarding dogs. Westport island is conveniently located on Maine’s mid-coast and accessible by bridge. A quiet non-touristy island that is a perfect get away from the congestion of Route 1, yet a close drive to attractions, beaches, restaurants, shopping and antiquing. The Island is the perfect jumping off point to visit Wiscasset, Booth Bay Harbor, Bath, Damariscotta, Freeport, and Rockland. Westport's winding rural roads are perfect for a long scenic walk, bike ride or run. Just a short drive from the house you can enjoy hiking on one of the islands public preserves or launch your boat at the public boat dock. If you get hungry, pick up a lobster on the island at the NorthEnd lobster Co-op . Just a short drive from the island and you will be on the scenic Route 1 where you will find Shaw's grocery store, restaurants, antiquing, canoe/kayak rentals, a ropes/zipline/gorilla laser tag park, and gas stations. Head North on Route 1 and you will find yourself in “the prettiest village in Maine”, Wiscasset. Walk along the water front, enjoy a lobster dinner on the dock, eat at the famous Red’s or explore one of the many antique shops and new restaurants. A little farther north and you can take a turn and head to Boothbay or Damariscotta. Both coastal towns are known for their shopping, dining, and antiquing. Boat tours for whale/seal watching and sailing or fishing adventures can be taken from both locations. Boothbay is also home to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a stunning display of Maines natural coastal landscapes enjoyed by adults and children. The children’s garden is a magical place to explore. Pemaquid Point Light house and beach is a short drive form Damriscotta. A short drive on Route 1 and you will cross the Kennebec river to head into Bath, “the city of ships”. Great dining and shopping along with the Maine Maritime Museum can be found in this waterfront town. Don’t forget to pick up some local Maine produce at the water front farmers market which runs year round. Not far from Westport you will find two beautiful Maine beaches. Reid State park’s sandy beaches, tidal pond, and bath house is the perfect place to cool off on a warm summer day. Popham Beach is a “must see” in Maine. One of the most beautiful parks in Maine!!! This is where Maine keeps all it’s sand! Miles of beach, tidal rivers, and and island(at low tide) to explore. Surf, boogie board, kite sail, paddle board, swim, relax or beach comb. There is something for everyone at this stunning beach. Walk to the island at low tide or swim in the warm waters of this beach. Check us out on Facebook -Hubbard Point Trust.

The DAL House is a lovely home in a gorgeous location. We loved walking the trails on the property and exploring Westport Island. Waking up in the morning and watching the sun shine on the water as the tide came in was such a treat. A quiet spot filled with beauty and a house filled with great amenities and a cozy feel. We loved every moment of our stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found everything we needed to be comfortable and well fed!

Our family had a great time. It's a very serene place. We saw eagles, many deer, including in the front yard one morning and side yard at dusk. The porcupine finally showed himself one evening munching in the front lawn. It's a great place to kayak when the tide permits. Unfortunately the second half of the week the tide was not convenient for when we wanted to kayak. It is mudflats when thee tide is out, We managed to get enough kayaking in. The dock is perfect. The cottage itself feels spacious. The washer and dryer are a bonus. The kitchen is better equipped than most. I has air conditioners in the bedrooms. There was a heat wave the week we were there. I've never felt they were necessary before in Maine but I fear they are becoming so and felt fortunate to have a cottage with them. It is a perfect place for dogs. Probably one of the best .

This is the location for the perfect Maine vacation. The house is situation on a nature preserve and we saw deer, turkeys, and porcupines. The house is spectacular and well equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable visit. We spent hours watching the tide come in and go out from the living room, which has gorgeous views. The kitchen is well equipped with any equipment you may need for cooking. Our family had a wonderful time and can't wait to visit this very special place again.

We loved our stay at the DAL House! The property was absolutely gorgeous and the home was clean and spacious - our family of four adults had plenty of space. If you're looking for a place to disconnect, unwind, and relax, this is it. It's very quiet and private - you simply won't want to leave! We look forward to returning one day.

We wanted to go somewhere special for our Anniversary.. Maine is an extremely dog welcoming State and so was this home! First 3 days was heavy rain so could not do any hiking but didn't slow us down. House was fully stocked w/ everything we needed and more! Saw plenty of wildlife, were able to go shopping, went on many trips and adventures and even went to beach.

My wife, daughter, and our two dogs enjoyed our stay at the DAL house. Communication with the host was easy and the house had all the amenities we needed. As others have written, the house is situated roughly 15 minutes from the main road, so getting off island is not a problem. The location also allows you to visit a number of other popular spots in Maine in an hour or less (Harpswell, Booth Bay, Camden, etc). Our dogs loved the yard and ease of access to the water.

The booking process is as easy as could be. Kimberly responded within minutes to any questions we had about the house/property.
We were in love with the place before we opened the door. The pictures don't do the house or the view justice. The house was spotless and very comfortable. The property was spectacular even in November! I found myself waking up early every morning to watch the sunrise and we were sure to be 'home' for sunset.
Don't miss the opportunity to get away from it all at the Dal House. We'll be back next year and the year after that!

Everything was exactly as described. If you are considering a trip to Midcoast Maine, you should stay here. Two great things we didn't know about before we went.
1.) The sunroom that you see in the photos is made up of several sliders. You can open all or some for some amazing breezes.
2.) The kitchen really is fully stocked with tools and implements. We love to cook on vacation, and we've found that the term "fully stocked" is relative. This home has a good knife set, stainless steel cookware, a French press and a drip maker, a small food prep processor, colanders, salad spinner, and anything else you could need to cook away from home.

We enjoyed all the intersections with nature. Saw herds of deer, a family of porcupines and a fox along with a diversity of bird life. It’s a quiet spot

We had a family reunion consisting mostly of senior citizens, and we loved the location. It was very serene and private, with opportunities for easy hiking, bird watching, kayaking and paddle boarding (at high tide +/- 2hrs). The dock with ladder made for easy launching. Enjoyed sitting on the lawn overlooking the cove and around the fire ring. Two small dogs loved the freedom. Kim was very receptive to addressing small concerns.

A tranquil, gorgeous getaway
We stayed at the DAL House for 2 weeks (spanning late June - early July) and had a fabulous time. The property is gorgeous and we loved the house. There are over 50 acres of preserve land, with trails, right out the front door of the house. We spent lots of time walking along the trails, and especially out to the point where we could sit on a bench and watch the tide come and go. We rented kayaks and paddled around the little islands across the way from Westport. Also, loved the resident porcupines who we got to see up close each evening (be sure to keep your dogs inside!), as well as deer, Osprey, Bald Eagles, herons, terns, and lots of woodland songbirds. We did several day trips - the property is located near some wonderful little towns and destinations, including Pemaquid Lighthouse, the historic town of Bath, the amazing Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Reid State Park, and Popham Beach. The best part was coming back to DAL after day trips and having a nice, cool breeze and tranquil surroundings to relax in. Kimberley was an excellent host and very responsive. We would definitely stay here again!!

We had a wonderful stay here with our 2 children. The area is very quiet and we saw porcupines, deer, heron, etc. on a daily basis. The kitchen is well equipped and we rented a kayak which was a great way to view the surrounding small islands. We would recommend staying here to relax as well as doing daily trips around the area.

Secluded beauty and fine house and property
This house and expansive property live up to its listing. Best was the large glassed in sun room with 5 patio doors overlooking the yard and tidal waters. Real quiet, maybe 3 cars a day heard on the dirt road. Ruin of old tidal dam nearby interesting. 10 miles to Route 1 near Wiscasset for supermarket and restaurants. Be careful at the front entrance to the house with large stone steps, the first one tilted, and no hand rail. We opened and closed the house there only, and used the patio door at the back into the sunroom with easy and safe access. The microwave requires the ceiling light switched on for power. Porcupine in the yard several afternoons, and deer several mornings, also likely the nighttime security light trippers. All the essence of Casco Bay.

We had a fantastic week at the Dal House. Kimberly was a terrific and responsive host, before and during our stay. The house was perfect - comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen and a living room that was all windows, with perfect lounging furniture. We kayaked right off the dock and enjoyed exploring the grounds of this beautiful preserve. Best of all, we were able to bring our pooch! This was a week of decompression after a difficult year. We hope to return next fall.

Peace & Quiet
Dal House was just perfect for my husband, myself and our two dogs. We spent most of the time sitting in the sunroom or out on the adirondack chairs admiring the view of Heal Cove. The dogs loved the large grassy area to explore and relax in. The house was perfect for the dogs! The host was responsive to messages and provided all the necessities. We would recommend Dal House to anyone looking to have a little peace & quiet. It is about 20-25 minutes to the closest grocer/coffee shop, so do stock up! ps-recommend a local baker, Daphne, who sells her pies out of her home on Main Road. It is worth the stop if you drive by and see the sign!

Heaven is the Maine coast
Absolutely gorgeous and magical property. Why leave when the view is amazing all hours of the day? We hiked, kayaked, swam, and just sat on the lawn or the dock with a glass of wine. Family loved it, so relaxing!

This property had exceptional amount of privacy, access to a wooded area with lots of mushrooms and great views of the water. The kayaking was great when the tide was in. Lots of wildlife in the area including ospreys and eagles and seals. Air conditioning was a plus this year, lots of games throughout the house.

Beautiful views From a Sweet Cottage
We had a fantastic visit to Westport island in Kimberly’s beautiful cottage. So many personal touches which made this place feel like home. The owner was always responsive and even purchased a new outdoor game prior to our stay. The new dock was in which made it easier to get into our kayaks. Our only disappointment was not seeing the resident porcupines. We will hopefully be back!

Lovely home on an inlet on Maine coast. Very beautiful and private setting. Has just about everything you might need including a washer and dryer. Host provides thoughtful touches such as fans and even air and conditioners in bedroom windows. The kitchen is well-equipped and has ample supplies for those meals you choose to cook "at home." There are many activities and restaurants in the area, however, a guest could stay busy just enjoying this property. Canoeing, kayaking, fishing or hiking are all at your doorstep.
