Lovely place to stay and excellent food and staff.
the location, friendliness of the staff and the food.
we were originally given a room that hasn’t been cleaned and serviced and it was very dark and smelt damp. this was quickly rectified and we were given a lovely bright room with a mountain view.

Good
The staff were friendly and helpful. Food at night was really good Nice location within easy reach of Wastwater, and Eskdale.
One breakfast of eggs Benedict was inedible due to raw ham being served. Awful!! Other full English breakfast was ok. This was a shame as the food the previous night had been excellent.

Not what expected and been a few times
Location was very nice. Steak and ale pie brilliant.
Room smelt like urine. Shower screen and bathroom filthy. No hair dryers. Most of the food was deep-fried . The only saving grace was the steak and ale pie. Alot of money spent on the refurbishment but it was better before. Didn't like that you had to queue to order food, even tho a table and room booked for the night. Never seen that before. Reminded me of a Weatherspoons. Just not as nice. Such a shame..... they clearly just cater for the walkers now.

Basic and expect to fend for your yourself
Bar and lounge area looked as though it had been recently refurbed. Location was ok for us wanting to climb Scafell Pike but nothing else around.
This was a very face-less hotel. If you’re wanting a warm welcome this isn’t the place. On arrival we had to ring the bell at reception 3 times as there was no one there to greet us. We ended up having to go to the bar and asking for someone in the end. This faceless communication continued at dinner where you’re expected to write your order down on a piece of paper yourself and then take it to the bar for them to take it through to the kitchen for you. all drinks had to be ordered at the bar too rather than from the table. It turned out that the food we wanted wasn’t available- this would have been avoided with a waiter/waitress service. In terms of breakfast, this was waiter/waitress service but once the waiter had taken our order we were then forgotten about with every other person ordering after us receiving there breakfast first (despite them all being the same order). Maybe I should have written it down and taken it to the kitchen myself. I ended up having to find someone to ask on estimated arrival of the food which was another challenge with just one person apparently serving and deciding to stay in the kitchen. In terms of the room, it was extremely small with the bathroom door struggling to open for the bed, it’s a good job we’re fairly slim! The bed base was extremely dirty.

Pleasant
- Staff - very friendly, efficient, acommodating - Food - mostly very good and decent variety of options - Drink - good selection of beers/ ales, gins
- I wouldn't recommend to any fussy sleepers (like I am). The walls are paper-thin, so I could hear the sounds coming from around and below my room clearly. Not even earplugs helped as apart from sound, there were physical vibrations - my bed shook every time someone was passing though the corridor outside my room, or slammed the door too hard a floor below. All in all, the building is just about fit for purpose.

Adequate - maybe it was room dependent.
Breakfast was decent. Location good.
Maybe we were unlucky with room allocation but bed not comfortable (two singles pushed together) and a noisy air duct outside the bedroom window didn't help the ambience. Overall adequate but we expected better.

Great stay. Incredibly happy with it all.
Food was excellent. All ate in restaurant on Saturday night. 6 meals all plates emptied. Breakfast absolutely spot on. Nothing too much trouble.
All incredibly good for our stay and we were very happy with everything. If I have to say anything the bathrooms could do with a bit of an upgrade, but they are fine, useable and not a problem. But some people are fussy.
