I arrived to find that the kitchen was closed so could order dinner and also this meant that there was no breakfast service. Ideally this should have been said at time of booking.

Location. Beautiful view

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Terrace bar is lovely with a beautiful view over the river. Breakfast was very good, lots of cooked options on the menu and good selection from the buffet. Cosy room with good view over the river. Clean bathroom. The bar is very busy but we didn't hear anything from our top floor room.
Parking can be difficult especially with a larger car in some spaces in the hotel car park and its full by early evening. Room was a little small, there are bigger rooms than ours in the hotel. No lift, that wasn't a problem for us but could be for some guests. A fan is provided but rooms might be too warm on hot days and the window can only be opened a couple of inches. As other guests have pointed out, not a lot of drawer space but this didn't pose a huge problem and we don't pack lightly!

The food was very good and the service excellent.
The room was musty when we arrived. Needed fresh air. No useful drawers in the bedroom or useful shelves in the bathroom. Hanging space and hangers were minimal.

Very friendly staff — good food
I have stayed at the royal for many years and always had a single room and the single bed has always been a larger single but this time it was a small single and very uncomfortable

Food was very good and quite good value. View from room was lovely! Staff were all very helpful and friendly.
Furnishings in bedroom and dining room were a little in need of refurbishment. Light in dining room was dreary.

The staff could not have been more attentive! They were all incredibly friendly and made me feel welcome. This was much appreciated being a lone traveler, especially on Valentines Day when they were fully booked with lots of couples.
Not a big deal but the bin in my room had not been emptied from the previous guest. I also struggled to open the door to my room but got there in the end.

It’s location at the top of the market town looking over the river Wye. Being built as a hotel in 1837, came with history (documented that Charles Dickens frequently stayed there) Free hotel car park a bonus.
Nothing.

Room was of a decent standard, cleanliness good , staff excellent ( very welcoming,) wonderful views from the outside terrace .Food of a good quality both at dinner and breakfast.
Booked two rooms four months in advance requested to be close together but they couldn't have been situated further apart which was disappointing to say the least..And certainly affected our overall enjoyment. Bathroom in need of refurbishment, noisy smokers outside our immediate area until 11.30pm. Guests upstairs from our room had television blasting at 5.45am in the morning.

great location. gorgeous vistas; the atmosphere in the hotel was good, close-by carparking
better bed needed - too small as a double; very squeaky floors in the bedroom. no lift

Great location. Historic hotel. Very close to town center. Great view of river and surrounding area from patio. Daily included breakfast offered a wide selection and wad had both cold and hot choices.
While hotel has parking, it is very limited. Guests should be aware that competition for parking spaces will be keen in the evening. There is no mention of either lifts or air conditioning, which may not be an issue for UK or European travelers, and was just a surprise to us lazy Americans.
