Location was excellent as was the overall apearence.
The doors did not fit the frames and light was constantly shining through the gaps. The wardrobe had a light inside which seemed to have a mind of it's own, lighting up when it felt like it and shing into the room.

The lovely hot water, I must have been near the water tank.
Brilliant location for buses and trains.
Really enjoyed being able to have friends join me for a catch up.
A little chilly, not the usual toasty place I've been before.
Also a little sad that the bed wasn't made whilst there and the teas not topped off.

traditional decor
The restaurant was poor. The menu limited and some of the food not as advertised. Of the selection of ‘local’ cheeses one was Stilton the other two were the same and could not be identified with any certainty. The ‘artisan’ crackers turned out to be Jacobs Cream Crackers.
Wanting a light breakfast I ordered smoked haddock and a poached egg but without Hollandaise Sauce . The resulting offering was meagre - so meagre it was funny. I have photographic evidence which I have shared with family for amusement.

The attitude of the staff, and the general helpfulness of everyone connected with the hotel.
No lift - we are both 89, and the stairs got a little difficult. The bath in our room (24) was crazy. it took up far too much room in the bathroom, and was difficult for us to get in and out. Why not rip it out and install a shower?

Staff very helpful building works to update the property going on. Hotel used for workers in the area in work clothes. Hotel is very dated although they are in the process of updating so smelled old.

Given a standard room initially when we had booked a deluxe room, we complained and were given the correct room. The bed was so hard we decided around 8.30pm to leave and go home. A waste of £131.
Hotel was far too hot, it was like a sauna. No lift I use a walking stick, we had two flights of stairs to climb, my wife suffers from asthma.

Lovely cosy hotel right in the centre with it's own parking. All staff were exceptionally friendly. Atmosphere was so lovely and cosy with the fires lit and music playing in the bars and lobby. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Would definitely stay again
