The pool

Informed the hotel we would arrive at midnight. Heatwave going on and AC was not turned on 'because they didn't know we would want that'...:-) Next day switch to smaller room because the AC unit was too small for our suite. Noticed there that AC was also struggling so I checked the filters. I had never seen so much dust on those things (dangerous too). 'We clean them every month, and it wasn't the end of the month yet' :-) :-) If that's true: clean them every 5 days! Clearly they are having a hard time, make the wrong choices and don't appreciate feedback. Cleaning the AC filters saves money, making guests sleep in a sauna will cost you money. But when your guest drops a apple clock house on the street you confront him, and when he leaves a bad review online you decide to rate his restaurant in the Netherlands with one star also..

Colonial look and feel, pool

Policy, choices and feedback of staff. We informed the staff we would arrive at midnight. While a heat wave was going on they had not turned the AC on, not even for 2 hours. Room temp was way over 30 degrees! When asked about it they replied "we didn't know what you wanted". :-) At 4 o clock I needed a sheet, at 6 it was comfortable... Seemed like a policy to save energy (wrong choice imr) Next day we changed our suite to a small room because the AC units are only fit for that size. In that room the unit wasn't working properly, so I checked the filters. The thick pack of dust on them were clearly the reason of the malfunction, I had never seen such a layer of dirt on those things, and I clean mine twice a year... So I showed it at the reception thinking they would appreciate the info. Reply: "we clean them every month, but it's not yet the end of the month" lol!! If that would be true I'd clean them every 5 days!! :-) Clearly they make silly choices and don't like feedback..Too bad

Very clean and nice atmosphere. Friendly staff, excellent coffee at breakfast!

Lovely hotel run by an extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful family.

Plenty of parking available. Rooms seemed clean. Staff was pleasant (except for the instances of ignoring do not disturb sign)

DO NOT DISTURB means do not go into the room. We don't need cleaning and bed making every day, yet staff was ignoring the do no disturb sign and went in anyways. I left my dirty socks and underwear at the bottom of the bed sheet planning on packing it into dirty clothes bag after breakfast... Cleaning staff went in and promptly decided to take those and put them onto the table! Then they put my sleeping shirt on top of those dirty items... Seriously?! Either respect the sign, or do not offer the sign, but not both, if I put the sign on, the room is not to be seen. Hotel is in dire need of renovations. For a 4 star hotel it's definitely too much worn down. There are to many small details, missing tile between above shower doors, badly done paint job, either you can see colors under it near sockets or the sockets themselves are covered on edges with latest color. Some of the power sockets are pushed into wall and look broken, etc... The bed cover duvet was kinda falling apart in our room due to age. First floor rooms are better then rest, since there is indoor heated pool between 1st and 2nd floor. Now, the doors to the pool are always open, the poll is heated, the room is heated, the pool was questionable for cleanliness, there is so much chlorine dumped into pool, but the drains looked a bit dirty, so we didn't use it. As mentioned, it was heated (to 30ish degrees)... And doors were open... Our friends in the second floor has so much chlorine stench in the hallways and moisture that their room was also damp, definitely not ideal. Most of the breakfast on our trip were locally sourced, this hotel, even by being 4 star looked like it had standard selection of supermarket brands. Not bad per say, but we kinda expected a bit better. Overall, not near the 4 star experience. Photos look nice and are realistic in certain places / angles, but once you are there, you can see the age of the place.

The entire area looked like it's abandoned since the '90s. Overall a very sad experience.

Staff were great, the location is very good. The restaurant and wine list are also very good.

The rooms are a little bleak and dated. There was no hot water at all in one of our two rooms. Breakfast was a disappointment for the price.
