house interior and garden
the worst was that our booking it was forgotten so we were not expected. being the only customer found the door closed
cold place , basic dinner (ham and cheese very expensive) breakfast very poor. Nothing like a pretended 4 stars hotel.
Service below 2 starts. Staff did not excuse. Only the family grandmother did her best to save the situation.

The breakfast was spare, but adequate. The setting was lovely, the service okay. Not the high point of the stay.
Cereal that was more adult oriented, not chocolate pops. Cooking our own eggs was not easy. They ran out of yogurt one morning.

very beautiful old house, full of charm and character
it is more of a chambres d’hôte than an hotel. there is no restaurant

Paulo and his mother work very hard to maintain this beautiful, historic and artistic home. It truly was a feast for the eyes and the senses. Paulo was a wonderful host and we enjoyed a delicious aperitivo shortly after our arrival. It was a pleasure to take in the various rooms, decor and courtyards. I am thankful we discovered this lovely, unique hotel and to have met Paulo and his mother. We do not speak Italian and we felt very welcomed. Paulo speaks English and I appreciated chatting with him and learning more about his home and it’s history. If you are flying out of Milan I recommend spending more than just a night here. I wish we would have had more time to relax and further explore the lovely surrounding region.
I found our bed and pillows were very firm / hard. If you are not bothered by a very firm bed this may not be an issue. There was an unprecedented June heat wave in Italy so that also played a role with the overall sleeping comfort. We had two rooms and one of the rooms did not seem to have a well functioning air conditioner. I do understand that when you choose to stay in such a unique, wonderful setting you may not have the “corporate” climate cooling systems and control. Overall I am very pleased we chose to stay in Paulo and his mother’s “ magical” home. Thank you.

We booked three nights bed and breakfast - there is car parking inside the walled grounds. This hotel is from the 15 century, it is a family owned home - if you like Escape to The Chateau and appreciate a wonderful historical building, then this is the perfect place to stay. We ate two nights at the hotel, Paulo (the son) cooked simple, tasty, Italian food which we thoroughly appreciated, sitting in the courtyard at the hotel. There is relaxing, laid back jazz music in the main areas and reasonably nearby, within walking distance, a super market, shops, cafés and restaurants. Very near to lake Varese, we were able to use this as a base to explore the lake.
Breakfast is a very, very simple affair - you can boil an egg, fruit juice and hot drinks are brought to the table, together with a croissant to eat (albeit served with beautiful butter and jam) and some toasted pieces of bread (for the boiled egg).

When we arrived we were impressed by the amazing atmosphere of the hotel. Great designed and we felt like we arrived in a famous jazzclub around 1920. Wonderfull decorated and such a great patio. We had diner at the patio, which was so romantic and the diner was more then excellent. I have never had such a great risotto and pasta. It's absolutely one or even two Michelin-stars. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is great and it helps you immediately to relax. I felt so sorry that I already booked a hotel for the next night, otherwise we would have stayed a lot longer. We'll absolutely come back!
The airconditioning in the room could be a bit better, but the good news is that there was air-conditioning.

Historic atmosphere in the ancient villa
The breakfast was a joke. Some small pieces of hard bread with jam, one croissant, orange juice and coffee. No butter, no bacon, no eggs etc.
We took also dinner in the restaurant and it was much too expensive for what we get. The situation was surreal. After a 5 course menu, were the main dish was cold meat with tuna sauce (without bread), the chef appear like Paul Bocuse himself and wanted to be honored. In fact, the meal was not much, not excellent but nearly ok but much too expensive.

Rooms clean and cosy. Owner and staff most welcoming and absolutly delightful. Food was not only excellent but was presented spectacular as well. Location is very nice with a backyard and close to lake varese. We will be back, cannot recommend enough.

See below - I filled in the wrong box!
The hotel is situated in a delightful villa dating from, at a guess the 18th century, in the old part of a quiet Lombard town close to Lake Maggiore. My wife and I thought it utterly charming and authentic.Lots of original architecture and some tasteful modern touches, full of Italian style. In the aftermath of vivid and on the Monday after Ferroagosto we were the only guests and the restaurant was closed - but the proprietor arranged dinner served for us in the small inner pizza in the hotel. A simple plate of spaghetti with freshly made tomato and basil sauce followed by wonderful Costello tonnato, complimented with a bottle of white from the alto adige. Perfection.
