The Grouse House is your perfect vacation getaway. The four bedroom, two bathroom house will be your retreat from the hustle of your day to day. Enjoy the serenity of the woods from the back deck and enjoy the fire pit with your friends and loved ones. You'll love the wooded setting as you escape from the hustle and bustle of the world while still so close to restaurants, shops, skiing, mountain biking and more. A large dining room table is perfect for everyone to gather around. A fully stocked kitchen is perfect for cooking up a meal for your entire group. A washer and dryer are available in the house for guest use. The home has a driveway that easily accommodates three to four vehicles and additional vehicles can park off the street or in resort parking lots. This home is located inside the community of Massanutten Resort. Massanutten is fun for all ages 365 days a year. Massanutten offers skiing, snow and grass tubing, ice skating, two golf courses, indoor/outdoor water park, mountain biking, ziplining, putt-putt, go-carts, tennis, swimming, fishing, parks and more! The resort also maintains 30 miles of hiking trails. The private owners' pool is available for use by our guests from Memorial Day through Labor Day for $5 per person. Tennis courts are also located by the pool. Most Resort activities are available to our guests for an additional fee and should be booked online before your arrival, through Massanutten Resort's website. **Please note due to current COVID-19 decreased capacity restrictions, some activities may sell out in advance, especially on holidays and weekends. We cannot guarantee access to the amenities and amenity closure/availability is not a refundable cancellation reason.** The house is an easy 15 minute drive to Harrisonburg and JMU, 15 miles to the entrance of Shenandoah National Park at Swift Gap, and 10 miles from the closest access point to the Shenandoah River. Dogs are allowed with prior approval and $100 per dog fee

We came here looking for a family getaway to the mountains for the weekend. We arrived to a house that was literally falling apart. No appliances had working lights. Fuses were blown to certain outlets and the receptacles were falling off the wall. Holes in the walls, baseboards falling off, pantry door falling apart, missing closet doors pretty much throughout. The icing on the cake was finding the entire bottom area of the house, where the fire pit is covered with trash, including soiled diapers. This was revolting to say the least. We made the most of our trip but most certainly will not be staying in this home or will this Host EVER again. They should be ashamed of the condition this home is in. It must be better!

The Grouse House was in a great location with easy access to Shenandoah National Park, which was the main reason for our visit. The house was clean upon arrival and the kids enjoyed the hot tub. The property could benefit from some simple maintenance to make it even more desirable. Some examples are that the kitchen could use a refresh of kitchen items (wine glasses, measuring spoons, can opener, etc.). There is a hole in the wall on the stairs and many areas of wall that need repainting. Closet & slider door need maintenance. The king bedroom definitely needs a winter comforter. The fireplace had about 6” of ash left in it that we removed before using. The wires of the tv could easily be hidden behind a shelf. Again, none of these affected our stay just things that would be super easy to fix and increase the quality of the rental. The beds were super comfy and the heat worked great. We had the best time ringing in the new year together!

The house was awesome. Indoor fireplace and hot tub were an absolute crowd pleaser and the location was perfect for the JMU game and hiking. Would recommend.

My friends and I had a lovely time at Grouse House. Kevin was responsive and friendly, the house was cozy and exactly as represented in the listing, and it was an easy drive from Richmond. Our group plans to make this weekend retreat a yearly event!

We loved our stay!! The place was nice but little old, loved the hot tub and overall. The only thing missing from the listing was blender, we couldn’t make stuff that required blender so prepare ahead!!

This was our 3rd time staying at the Grouse House. We came from Radford, JMU and Vienna, VA to celebrate our twins’ 21st Birthday. Such a great location- beautiful view! Well stocked and clean house. We loved the Blackstone Griddle! The hot tub and firepit are always a big hit! Looking forward to next year!

place was clean and easily located and we enjoyed our getaway to the mountains. Host was responsive and answered my questions. the only thing that would have been nice, since there is an advertised fireplace, if a few logs were there for the guests to use, it would have been helpful. Otherwise, all a great stay!

Had a wonderful weekend with friends celebrating my fiance's 30th birthday at this perfect ski lodge. Will definitely rebook in the future.

9 of my college friends and I decided to take a weekend away and go skiing and the cabin was absolutely perfect. The hot tub was a big hit as well as the fact everyone was able to sleep in a bed. Very short drive to the slopes making the location perfect as well. Wifi worked as well as the tv and there was hot water. Will definitely stay here again if we decide to go again!

Good location & clean. Need better instructions for hot tub. We were there 2 days before we figured out the jets. Also there was not enough toilet paper and we had not planned to go to the store. Owner didn’t respond when I asked about the toilet paper.

Really enjoyed our weekend stay. It rained about a third of the time we were there, but the larger dining table is perfect for both board games and serving up a large dinner. The hot tub and fire pit were also great to have on the last day when it got cold.

My friends and I wanted to get out of DC for the weekend and decided to stay at this amazing place. The house was spotless, the rooms were great, the grill was perfect! Thank you for allowing us to stay at your amazing place! We loved it and hope to come back soon!

It was a pleasant stay. Location is good. Property is OK, big spacious rooms. You have everything that you need. Kitchen needs a refresh though, drawers are hanging on by their dear life. A little TLC can bring this nice property back to life. We enjoyed our stay for 2 days here.

We stayed here during JMU Parents weekend. Love the property - great place to be away from the craziness of parents weekend in Harrisonburg to enjoy some quality time with my Duke but close enough to get to campus for all the events. Will definitely stay again!

Cute and cozy
Very cute cabin, kitchen was fully stocked with just about anything you’d need. Was clean and bedding / towels were very nice quality. The decks had great views for morning coffee. Saw lots of deer, birds, chipmunks, etc. was close to all the resort amenities, but very quiet and peaceful. We’d definitely rent again!

Awesome time at Massanutten!
We had a great time relaxing at Massanutten. The views are incredible. Upon arrival we noticed the deck was covered with bird secretions on the tables and chairs. The decked looked like it had not been used in months. Called Kevin and he had someone over to clean it 10 minutes! The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. We tried to cook some hamburgers on the grill, but it was dirty dirty. So we went to Walmart to buy a frying pan to cook the hamburgers because the ones at the house didn't look to desirable to cook in. Some of the dishes had dried up food on them. But that didn't stop us from enjoying our weekend. We went to the winery down the street and it was awesome, go-carting and shopping. If you decide to stay here you will enjoy the views, it is convenient to restaurants, and resort activities. We used 1-1/2 cans of bug spray because the mosquitoes are very aggressive. The property owner - Kevin was attentive, apologetic and very easy going.

Convenient, Cozy & Clean
A couple of moms and our kids for a quick getaway. We had four kids ranging from 3 to 11. The property is in a nice location to feel secluded but convenient to lots of activities, and feels extremely safe. The house was clean and comfortable and loved having a kids room. The house is cozy but, the large dining table made a great space for everyone to gather for meals. Enjoyed the hot tub. The assisted close on the hot tub is wonderful!
The only thing I did not like was having to take your own trash to the dump site. It was just a minor inconvenience. It is not too far away but far enough away that we did not want to make an extra run to take trash, so we had to load up all of our luggage and then throw the trash in on top to take it on our way out. It would be convenient if you were staying more than a couple of days and had a lot of trash to be able to clean out along the way.
The kitchen has been well loved/used but still functional.
We would definitely consider staying here again. Side note unrelated to this particular property. Do not waste time/money on go-karts and bumper cars within the resort. The waits were long and the maintenance needed on the facilities leaves a little to be desired. Not worth the money. The wait would not have been as bad if they had more karts/cars functioning where more could run at one time.

Very comfortable (particularly beds and bedding...mine was like a cloud) and clean. The owner was responsive and made sure everything was in order. The sliding door was the only problem as other mentioned but minor issue. Great location and quiet.
