Sweetwater Bunkhouse is truly home away from home.we felt so comfortable right away even befor we stepped through the door. The setting is gracious, unpretentious, and inviting. We had everything we needed at our fingertips from the kitchen utensils, to linens, to tv remote. The neighborhood and nearby attractions were just right for the rest and relaxation we sought.Sweetwater Bunkhouse and Ludington is the perfect combination.

This is our first visit to the Bunkhouse, but our third stay with Amanda and Nathan. Normally we stay at their cottage, but it was already booked so we moved one block North to the larger bunkhouse. The neighborhood is the same, so no changes there. The bunkhouse is larger with 2 bathrooms, which is always convenient. The basement is large and had a dartboard, which came in handy on our one rainy day. The cabin was stocked with all of the basic necessities and nothing missing. We had a very good stay and will be back again next year. There were only 3 of us staying, but the bunkhouse can accommodate a much larger group, so we will probably try to stay in the cabin next year. However, I would have no issues staying in the bunkhouse again.

Overall, it's a decent place, however, the first time my wife sat on the toilet a very large ant crawled from the toilet onto her thigh, so that wasn't a good start. They do have a bug problem, but hopefully, that's getting fixed. We also could barely get hot water from the main shower. It would be warm for a couple of minutes, then immediately get cold. They offered to come fix this while we were there, but we didn’t really want the intrusion on our family time. After we left, they said they fixed it and it was simple, so maybe it's fixed now, I hope. Another kinda odd thing was they have this basement where the laundry room is, but the only way to turn on lights is to walk all the way across the basement to the back door to the switch. It's one of those creepy unfinished basements, so going down there without light is unsettling. So we just left the basement light on the whole time we were there since we had kids, some who would get scared of it. The thing that may have bothered me most was after we left, they accused us of ruining their towels with tanner or bronzer because there were stains on them. I had noticed that the towel I used while we were there had a large orange stain on it, but didn’t think much of it. No one in my family uses tanner. When I told them that I was sorry, that some previous owners muat have done that, they never responded (probably believing that we did it). They did, however, give us one of the cool mugs that they have, which we said we liked.

Do not plan to leave your dog unattended at all. This ruined our entire trip. We could not go out as a family to any meals or anywhere that was not dog friendly. Even though I asked ahead of time if we could crate them and leave, which they said yes. Until I was told to come back because the neighbors heard barking.

Nathan and Amanda were gracious hosts. As soon as we walked in, a vase of sunflowers were placed on the table. We felt right at home. We had wonderful barbecue on the deck. Beautiful place. We will be going back.

This is the fourth time we've stayed at a property owned by Nathan and Amanda, and we have never been disappointed; they are wonderful hosts. Both properties are clean and well-equipped, very nicely decorated, and centrally located. It is so nice to sip coffee on the deck in the mornings, walk down to the lake to see the sunset, or sit around the campfire at night. Over the week, we rode ATV's at the dunes, rented a pontoon boat on Hamlin lake, spent the day on the beach playing in the waves, picked blueberries, shopped and ate burgers in Pentwater, hiked out to a beautiful view of Lake Michigan, fished, consumed way too much ice cream, played lots of games, and enjoyed dinners on the deck. Our visits are always fun... such an ideal location and so much to do.
