Zanzibar's Hidden Gem

The serenity Kendwa offered was excellent. I relaxed like never before. Kendwa is tucked away from the hustle and bustle... offering a gentle breeze off the ocean. You're easily within walking distance to the beach. The staff included Bertha (excellent chef), Aminieli (concierge) and host/proprietor Carlos really went out of their way to make one feel at home. Much love to the entire crew!

The stay at Kendwa, not an issue. However, the island of Zanzibar is developing. Meaning, both Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam infrastructure are in the developing stages.

Relaxing place close to the beach

We loved our stay in Kendwa Carletto Style. The bungalow was clean and spacious with a nice patio for relaxing with a book. The staff are really helpful and added little details to make our stay extra special. It was nice to get a feel for the locality on the short walk to the beach. At low tide you can walk over and back between Kendwa and Nungwi. If the tide comes in you can take a short taxi ride or water taxi. There is a really nice Italian restaurant with delicious cocktails on Nungwi beach. Can't remember the name but it's up some wooden steps, right beside the Mama Mia ice cream parlour(not the one at Kendwa Rocks)

Kendwa Rasta style is completely relaxing place. Jay is super nice and really helpful with info and for small talk. There is 10 minutes to the beach, but the place is so nice so walking a bit is not a problem :)

Very good

Lovely Rasta Bungalows, very friendly environment, Nice garden and places to chill. Big room with A/C, bar and kitchen ready for you any time. Staff was exceptional. Cool Italian Rasta owner (loved the bruscetty and italian pasta!), ladies in the kitchen prepare delicious food, Jay at the reception made us feel like at home ❤️ We really enjoyed our stay here thanks to them. Adorable cat :-)

Nice and relaxed. Hakuna matata!

We stayed here for 2 nights. If you like to stay outside the hussle and bussle of Kendwa beach you have to come here! You have to walk down the village to get to the beach. This is a nice walk because almost every villager is greeting you and you can see a bit of African life. If you stay at a accomodation at the beach you probably are not even aware that you’re in Africa… As for the room: it is clean and it has a nice shower and the temperature is good because of the AC and fan. The AC fell out once in a while, but we were not bordered because the fan still worked. The breakfast is the best we have had in Zanzibar! And last but not least: the people who work there are so nice, helpful and interested in their guests. It really was a nice place!!

Kendwa Rasta Style is amazing! You stay in lovely bungalows that make you feel instantly in paradise. It’s a very relaxing and quiet place. It was clean and the staff was a 10/10. We will be coming back!

Love it!

It’s not the first time I’m using this lodge! It’s really close to the beach, the staff is nice, specially the receptionist Jay. I will definitely go back again as soon as I’m in Kendwa!

do not go if you want a relaxed vacation

We booked kendwa Rasta style because comments seemed to be ok. The Place is nice and peaceful. However, we where not lucky and had many issues. We had to come out 3 times during the showers to tell them that there was no water. Then the AC and fan was not working properly in the room so it was very hot in the room. After asking for a solution they offered us another room that the AC should have worked properly. The fan worked better, however AC stopped working at 23:00 at night. Breakfast was quite pathetic, one mini sandwich with a peace of omelette, one bread with Nutella, one bread with some jam. Three slices of fruit that seemed to be cut the day before because they tasted old. Location is not the best, you need to walk about 20 min to the beach. At night the road to the hotel is completely dark with no lights. If you are not looking for adventure, and want to have some relaxed days in kendwa beach , do not book at Kendwa Rasta style. You can find better and nicer hotels to stay on the beach front for the same money. We decided to check out and go to another other after our first night. Unfortunately, the owners didn’t seem to mind us leaving after not offering or accepting any kind of refund.

Lovely staff!

The bungalows are very big and clean and they have air-con, however I will suggest to put more furniture inside such as tables, hangers and maybe a wardrobe since there is plenty of space for it. The food is really good and the staff is so lovely, thanks to Jay and the chef they made our experience fantastic!

This hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the beach. Furthermore,Booking and the hotel have miss leaded us completely, we booked a bungalow with two beds and when we arrived, there was no availability since they only have one bungalow, they deffo need to look into this issue, we were not the only ones with the same problem so maybe check with the hotel before booking. Finally, bare in mind that they charge a extra fee if you wanna pay by card.

The ambience is nice and it's quiet and peaceful.

There were hidden charges that I didn't expect and weren't seen when booking through the app. I wouldn't have booked this place if I had known about it. Also, the place is quite far from the beach (10-15 min walk, depending on the pace).

Superb

Was just there for one night, so I can't review the full experience and I also didn't use the breakfast. But the whole area of the hotel is just adorable. The room/cottage was big, clean and everything worked! The atmosphere is very chill, quiet and relaxing.

Would prefer a longer breakfast (I prefer not having deadlines during holiday).

You can tell an Italian owns this. It is really nicely designed, clean and stylish with a really pretty ambience.

It is indeed a walk to the beach, so as long as you dont mind that you'll have a nice stay. On the plus side you will find tranquility!

Hidden quiet place. You don’t really get what is sold in Bookin.com

Houses are cute, shower is good and staff is very friendly, breakfast was good. If you like to stay up on the hill, hidden in village and sleep in really quiet then this is perfect place to stay. It was about 15 min a walk to the beach.

There was problem with elecricity and house was really hot, It was impossible to sleep there. In booking.com they sold house with seaview but it was a joke😃. In the house are a lot of ants. No room cleaning in four days. There you could see a little ocean far far away. I think they should be more honest about their location in Booking. I had very bad communication also- mostly I didn’t get any answer or only Hakuna Matata.

It is a beautiful place, modern mixed with African style.. it is very important that not only island gives you adventure, but also place where you are staying! Thanks for that😃 Personal was extremely helpful! Saved my travel further with extra help going beyond🙏🏻🤗 Will return for sure!

At least it was peaceful and relaxing.

The room was clean and nice and the staff was very friendly.

It was far from the beach. Not 50 meters, not 4 minutes but at least 15 minutes walk down a poor path. This would not be a problem if it did’nt say 50meters from the beach in the description. I would call this a blatant lie. Also the AC in our room did not work, the fix was to flip a fuse to restart it and then it worked for another 15 minutes and shut down again.

Bad vibes from the Rasta House. Pay cash to stop the harassment of them not understanding how booking.com/banking wo

the bungalow was beautiful, space to sit outside, very clean, new, bright, really lovely. Get a taxi/bike to and from the property as it is out of the way.

Booked 2 nights, but only stayed for 1. As soon as I walked in they told me I had not paid via Booking.com and also $10 tax, I paid the tax but I had had confirmation from Bookings.com I had paid so I would not pay again. Bad vibes. The walk to the beach is not what is advertised, it’s long, across a field, don’t do it, take a taxi. Asked for a beer at 10.15pm, they said bar was closed (but music was still on) they did sell me a beer eventually, again bad vibes. As soon as I had finished my breakfast they were on it again that I hadn’t paid, from the Italian owner, manager, another Italian guy and then the local staff. I contacted booking.com to confirm who responded straight away (thank you) to confirm I had and not to pay again. I left after my breakfast and found a nicer place where I wasn’t harassed for payment. If the place only wants to take cash then don’t let customers pay via booking.com.

*The AC didn't work. At first won't turn on at all and a staff member turned it on. However, it is completely useless.. Zero cold air. You will feel like with only the fan, you need a shower every 1 hour or so. *The location isn't close to the beach. The straightforward path is super slopy and scary. So it is safer to even take a longer way. *The WiFi isn't always working *The flexibility of adding people. I first booked for one person. And even tho on Booking it is the same price for 2 people, the hotel charged us extra 10$ for the 2nd person, making the price quite high for what it had to offer.

We stayed in Kendwa Rasta style during our travels in Zanzibar,whole property is just amazing, Daniela and Carlos were very helpful and very welcoming!The bungalows are charming and we felt here like at home,breakfast was superb and distance to the beach just around 10mins walking,when I have opportunity to come back to Zanzibar I will definitely stay again here!

cool place to stay near Kendwa beautiful beach

I liked the rasta style! the place is really new, the bungalows are spacious, painted in beautiful colours, the garden amazing with so many beautiful plants, palm trees and flowers I absolutely loved it ❤️ the people, the owners, the staff working there so nice,helpful and friendly, Gracie grazie!

Superb

Amazing looking cottages, brand new and spacious with a nice bathroom and balcony facing the beach. Tasty breakfast included with fresh fruit and a chapati with eggs. Kind staff.

The internet didn’t work when we arrived, but the hostess let us use her hotspot. About 10 mins walk to the beach.

Best Deal Ever for reggae lovers and to run away from the busy resorts

Bungalow are very very nice, clean and spacious. It's definitely an outstanding opportunity to enjoy Kendwa for a really good deal. The garden IS amazing... And if you are a reggae lovers, it IS definitely the place to be in the North top enjoy thé rasta vybes and the wonderful beaches. There is a restaurant ans thé staff IS very nice. I will Come back, that's for sure.

Kendwa beach IS a little be far from the hôtel. You will need to walk 10 to 15 min to enjoy it . But thé staff will drop you there if you ask. And you Can take a boda boda (moto taxi) by night Time !

Cute place

The rooms were spacious and it definitely felt off the beaten path. Also the breakfasts were better than we were expecting :D. We would stay here again. The host is great. She is fluent in Spanish and can get by in English.

Now for the disclaimers: (1. It’s at least a 5 minute walk from the beach, so for quick trips to and from its a little inconvenience. (2. The bed did sag a little but we still slept fine. (3. The wifi didn’t work in the rooms and sometimes was super slow even in the main space but that’s typical for most hotels in Zanzibar. (4. Also the hot water tanks must have been pretty small as it ran out for a quick shower.
