I rented this property for 31 days in July. This property is in need of major repair, cleaning and renovation. There are weeds growing everywhere, dead grass in the front yard and broken junk throughout the house. There are old weathered lawn chairs, old boat equipment, weed shears, bug spray bottles laying around and old water toys in the side yard and boat dock. Broken dock ladder, broken deck steps, weathered hoses, unstable boat dock to list a few. I had to send multiple messages to find out the address of the property as I anxiously awaited for check in instructions with only a few days left until my arrival. Then on the day of the check in, I still didn’t receive check in instruction. I had to message him several times, I was finally given the door code. This was 4pm on the day of check as we waited outside the house. The master bedroom king bed frame was broken upon check in and we notified right away. It took them 17 days to get it fixed. As I complained about the bed being unsleepable, they told me to just use the other beds. We couldn’t sleep in the master king bed for more than 60% of our stay and were relegated to the guest room bunk bed. The outdoor BBQ is old, rusted and really nasty. It barely outputs any heat to cook even with a new propane tank. I ended up buying a new BBQ grill to use. Firepit is a portable propane type. We ended up not using it due to limited heat and frustration of the propane gas smell. SPA is more like an outdoor bathtub. You had to fill the tub with hot water from the outside shower. The jets and spa features don’t work. You had to pump out water with a sump pump and to refill the tub for next use. No privacy from owners as they live right across the water from the backyard less than 100 yards away. They never disclosed this but discovered it as I passed by their house on my boat. It felt like you were always being watched the whole time. Creepy! I am getting charged for utilities. Problem, this wasn't disclosed in the property listing at the time of my booking. Only after I made the booking and he wanted to collect an extra security deposit for my dogs, he said that he would be charging excess utilities against the security deposit. It was past the free cancellation period to cancel. Not sure this is fair or legit practice. In summary, good location, poorly maintained and hosts that make you feel like a tenant. And not a guest of vacation rental.
