About this house rental

We have named this recently renovated, beautiful vintage mini home "Aristokosmos", from the Greek words "ariston" (excellent) + "kosmos" (world/jewel), conducive to the superlative quality this atmospheric, fully detached 19th century home will offer. Its architecture meshes harmoniously with one of the most picturesque and historical neighborhoods of Chania, the old Tabakaria (Tannery factory) district, which is gradually turning into one of the greatest attractions for the discerning guest to the island. The main entrance leads to a cozy ergonomic ground floor with fireplace, fully equipped kitchenette, a sofa which converts into a semi-double bed, dining table and chairs, walk-in shower and toilet, closet, separate laundry-machine area and luggage space under the stone staircase. On the upper floor, the guest is met with the ambience of ceiling beams four meters above a peach pine wooden floor. A double-bed sofa, Smart TV, mini-bar, closet, toilet+shower, a beautifully cozy loft with another semi-double bed and a private sea-view terrace guarantee a most unique experience. No expense has been spared in the decor, quality furnishings, luxury and comfort in this traditional home. However, it should be noted that the sleeping areas are not partitioned with doors. Everything is laid out in open spaces. Our neighborhood is not only privileged in being in one of the most picturesque seaside historical locations of the city, the tannery district, but also in not having lost the pulse of its initial function, as it hosts the sole surviving traditional tannery, operating under the strictest sanitary conditions in respect of the touristic development of the region. Ιn fact, it is of such significance that schools and agencies organize field trips to visit it. The neighborhood is one of the quietest in town and boasts immediate, walking-distance access to everything a vacationer needs. Beyond this, the city's most famous (not to mention "most picturesque") sea tavern, "Thalassino Ageri", is located a mere 100 meters from the home, where you can dine literally beside the naturally formed sea pool with the unique view of the city outlined by a horizon that provides one of the most breath-taking sunset views. Apart from the cove right in front of your house, within a short walking distance, you can swim at the famous "Kouloura" swim spot - a picturesque, natural pool encircled by rocks frequented by locals and guests alike.

I can't say enough about how wonderful my experience was in Crete, particularly because of the lovely hospitality of Panayiotis and Apollonia. By the end of the stay, I felt like a member of the family. The space was perfect for me (and a friend who joined me halfway through the trip). It's an interesting part of town with a lot of new development of the old tannery spaces, so there was some construction. But it didn't take away from the beauty of the location. The swimming areas were so close, the tavern around the corner was superb, and the walk to Old Town (about 20 mins along the coastline) was always a lovely trek. I felt very safe as a solo traveler and was easily able to get to other areas of the island for excursions. I would stay here again in heartbeat, and I hope very much to return. If you do stay, make sure Panayiotis plays his lyres for you--such a special treat!

We really enjoyed our stay at Aristokosmos. It is a comfortable cozy mini-house with a beautiful balcony in a non-touristy neighborhood that is a mixture of homes and old tanneries that are being redeveloped. You can swim in the ocean 50 feet away or walk a short distance to a natural swimming hole. The old Venetian harbor is a pleasant half hour walk through town along the coast. The new archeological museum 2 blocks away is a must see - manageably sized and will laid out with examples of finds recreated in the locations they were excavated. There are multiple good restaurants nearby and sunset at the Thalassino Ageri fish restaurant is not to be missed. The host Panagiotis was super welcoming and helpful and gave us a mini-concert of on his lyre on the morning we left.

Stayed here with a friend, and we loved this place. It is on the water. We could walk to swimming areas or take a bus to a beach nearby. It is close, but not too close , to interesting cafes and restaurants. The host "Panos" greeted us, was available to answer questions, and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable! I highly recommend it.

Panagiotis was amazing. He welcomed us with a walk throughout the town then treated us to a coffee at a beautiful Oceanside cafe. The home was perfect. Just a short walk to great bars and restaurants. I highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be back!

A charming getaway in Chania. (Forget Iraklion.)
A charming getaway in Chania. (Forget Iraklion.)
Aristokosmos was perfectly delightful, and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a peaceful month there. The ocean is only a stone’s throw away and we went swimming there every morning. The quaint property — replete with two bathrooms with showers and a small kitchen —is shoulder to shoulder with abandoned relics from the old tannery business, and their scattered hulks lent a fascinating character to this ancient area, which has all the earmarks of a quaint small village, replete with restaurants, coffee houses, and several small shopping markets. I would give Aristokosmos 5 stars, and the helpful owners are now our friends.
