Sanctuary by the Sea
About this house rental
Situated in Puget Sound, this lovely house for $408 per night is a great option for your next break. Just a few minutes outside of Sequim, this is the place to come if you’re seeking peace and tranquility, aided by the restorative power of nature. Decompress, charge your batteries, yet still be close enough to explore all the Olympic Peninsula has to offer. Recently renovated, this sanctuary by the sea is where your adventure begins. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, we’re right next to Panorama Vista County Park, where a short path leads to a set of wooden stairs descending to a secluded beach. Explore in either direction and often feel like you have the place to yourself. From the bluff (or the beach) you can see the outline of the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island (B.C.) in the distance. You have the Olympic mountains to your left and Protection Island to your right, with an occasional view of snow-covered Mt. Baker beyond that on a clear day. Whether you’re into beachcombing, mountain biking, hiking, shopping, dining, or simply finding a spot where you can relax and distance yourself from deadlines and to-do lists, we’ve got you covered. Prefer to BBQ on a deck looking over the water, read a good book on a bench in your own back yard, work away from home, or binge-watch your favorite show? No problem. Want a close encounter with a bald eagle, wandering deer or other wildlife? You’re likely to find that as well. In fact, you’ll probably feel like a visitor in their back yard. For mountain bikers, we have a world-class myriad of rugged backcountry trials known as the Miller Peninsula. People come from all over to discover its beauty – old growth forest, prairie meadows, and water views – yet you’ll have access about a half mile from where you’re staying. Prefer a relatively flat, manicured, paved trail, equally beautiful and suitable for road bikes as well? Hop on the Discovery Trail, about 4 miles away, and head west towards Sequim, through Sequim Bay State Park and Carrie Blake Park, among other notable sites. Or head east towards Diamond Point and Discovery Bay. You could even play a free round of frisbee golf (18 holes) through a beautiful forest on a nearby course. Seven Cedars, a casino just 5 miles away, can offer a fun night out as well, with live shows, fine dining and other activities. You can rent an e-bike or book a whale watching tour from there as well. The Puget Sound Express leaves from the beautiful harbor of Port Townsend, which offers many other local attractions as well, such as an annual wooden boat festival. Beyond the attractions accessible from your Vrbo location, Sequim is only about a 15-minute drive away. Whether you’re here for the Lavender Festival, or just want to immerse yourself in its natural beauty and ambiance, you won’t find a more enchanting small-town slice of rural Americana anywhere in the country. Port Angeles, just over a half hour away, offers a 90 minute ferry ride to cosmopolitan Victoria (Vancouver Island, British Columbia), which has much to see within walking distance, though you can take your car as well if you prefer, and return the same day (or stay the night). Port Angeles is also the gateway to OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK, a World Heritage site renowned for its diversity of natural beauty and pristine places to explore. From Hurricane Ridge to Lake Crescent to the Hoh Rain Forest, and countless other locations, you can see it all: Pacific wilderness coastline, alpine peaks covered with exotic wildflowers or snow, depending on the time of year, temperate rainforests, glacial lakes, winding rivers . . . there’s something for every traveler. Your home away from home will have everything you need. A large bedroom, a small bedroom, two bathrooms, as well as a kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry facility and a deck with outdoor seating. Three large smart TVs, Internet access, DirecTV (with HBO), books, movies, games, a computer desk (for those who want to set up a work area with their own laptops), and a private, fully fenced-in back yard. Owner on premises next door and available upon request. You can expect every effort to be made to maintain your guest quarters as clean, tidy and sanitized as possible. Guests receive a 15% discount for a stay of a week or longer, and 20% for a month (28 days) or longer. Please see rental agreement before finalizing your booking. :-)

It is an amazing place to stay with breathtaking views of the water on the Straits. Wonderful amenities with waterfront and forest hikes out the front and back doors. Comfortable, clean safe. Highly recommended.

Beautiful view and setting.
House was clean and had everything you could possibly need.
Wonderful beach access just a short walk away. Jonathan sent lots of information on many walks/hikes in the area.
We all enjoyed our stay.

the property was excellent as was the owners who introduced me to the facilities and was available when I had a question. I highly recommend the property

The views were amazing, the host was super friendly and knowledgeable, and the place was very clean and comfortable. The apartment had everything we needed and more, and Jon provided us with a detailed list of sightseeing recommendations. We very much enjoyed our stay.

As gracious hosts, Jonathan and his wife offer you the opportunity to experience a dream home in a serene setting. Their love and attention to the decor of their home and landscaping are top notch. Every comfort was supplied, both physically and with attentive communication for easing a traveler's experience. Jonathan was a wealth of information on what to see and where to dine. I have rented many homes over the decades. This one rates 10 out of 10, both as a true sanctuary for the soul, or as a perfect hub for exploring. Enjoy the journey! Marla and Bob

The Property has amazing view, gorgeous yard! We were visiting Olympic National Park so we didn't get to stay at the house very much as we were out all day. Would have liked more time to enjoy. The owner was very helpful with information. Thank you so much for sharing your home!
Kindest Regards,
The Weeks Family

Great location and the home had everything to make my stay comfortable. The home owner is close enough to help if needed but I always felt complete privacy.

Jon and Amanda are so nice and have created a wonderful place to relax and enjoy! The accommodations are very comfortable and welcoming. We look forward to returning in the future.

This property is BEAUTIFUL! We observed the most beautiful sunset overlooking the water surrounded by the sounds of nature. Jon was extremely communicative, provided lots of recommendations for a successful weekend, and was quick to resolve a slight issue. This property is so quiet, tranquil, and clean. We highly recommend!

This was a perfect place to escape the city. A perfect home base to come back to after a day of exploring, but could have easily just hung out on the deck enjoying the beautiful garden and view.
Jon is a great host and the place is clean and organized. We will be back!

Very happy with the VRBO, would strongly recommend. Great view of the ocean with access access to local beach. Our day trip to Victoria was a highlight, but there is plenty to do in the area within a short car ride. Owner provides a wealth of knowledge of great things to do around the Olympic peninsula.
House is in great shape. Owner clearly cares about the property, and keeps everything clean and working. Especially appreciate the attention to detail in the little things, nice appliances, dishes, mugs, etc. etc.

We had a most wonderful stay at Jonathan's meticulously designed and truly spotless home away from home!
My mom, who is an elegant 82 year-old with an artistic nature, remarked that only someone with a refined soul could have created a space like this. There is nothing out of place, and no detail forgotten.
In the mornings, we enjoyed our coffee on the massive deck as an other-worldly fog gently rolled past over the water down below.
Even with the busy weekend of family wedding activities, we left feeling renewed and refreshed. We hope we can return at some point and just sit on the deck for a few days.
Thank you, Jonathan!

This was an excellent location to get away from it all. We had a great time as a family being together before everyone headed off to school. Lovely lodging, accessible host, and beautiful country. Would highly recommend.

The second bedroom description is inaccurate. The second bedroom has no windows, no closet and access is through the master bedroom. This is awkward because it’s like sharing the bedroom with another couple and the air flow in the second bedroom is lacking so it is very stuffy.

Very clean, comfortable beds, beautiful grounds and amazing view. Hosts were very accommodating and helpful. I would highly recomend this house.

We had a lovely stay at this home. Usually we do not choose a hosted location, but Jon was very nice and only met with us once to give a few pointers about our stay; we didn’t see him the rest of the stay, but he ensured us we could bother him with any questions or concerns.
The unit was very clean and well decorated. The deck and backyard was incredible and had amazing views, bring your camera for sunset! Great access to the beach via short path and some stairs. We made it for low tide and the tide pools were very neat to check out.
Overall a great and cozy stay!

This was a beautiful clean property that is a great starting point for any outdoor activity. The views of the water, mountains, and sunsets were spectacular. We spent two nights and were very comfortable.

We had the most wonderful time! The hosts are very friendly and available to help when needed, but they are also very quiet and respectful of your privacy. There are so many things to see and do in the area. Two of our favorites were Fort Flagler and North Beach in Port Townsend (lots of sea glass). We highly recommend eating at Dockside Grill as well. The home is lovely and inviting. The views are spectacular ! The home has everything you need and is very modern and comfortable. We just cannot say enough good things!!

We enjoyed the many activities available ! Coming from Colorado we were amazed to find Hurricane Ridge for sledding and the spending late afternoon walking on the beach and looking for treasure! Totally one of our most treasured trips!!

Where to start? Hmmm … how about the eagles flying along the bluff, and engaging in “dogfights” with wary crows? When we weren’t enjoying the creature comforts inside the house, or hiking and biking in the area, we were looking out the window, watching for these majestic birds (and savoring the view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca).
The guest quarters are clean, comfortable, well-equipped and quiet. Although they are connected to the main house by an enclosed breezeway, they are very private and we were barely aware of our hosts’ presence. (That being said, we encourage you to chat with Jon … he’s a font of knowledge, a good storyteller and eager to make your stay enjoyable. Although we didn’t meet Amanda, we suspect she’s equally engaging. Oh — and take a few minutes to read their “Frequently Asked Questions” booklet — it is as funny as it is informative.)
We took advantage of the short walk down to the beach—keep an eye out for river otters—and the short drives to the Miller Peninsula State Park and the Olympic Discovery Trail for hiking and biking.
Although the kitchen is very well-equipped, and while there are a choice of grocery stores a few miles away in Sequim, we’d recommend taking yourselves to breakfast at the Oak Table and dinner at the Dockside.
If you enjoy your stay even close to as much as we did, you will fondly remember your time at this Sanctuary by the Sea.

We had a great 2 night stay. The host, Jon, was very accommodating and it went very smooth. Very clean. Pillows and beds were comfortable. Views of the Straits were fantastic!

Traveled to Washington to see family and gather after a family loss. Looking for something peaceful and beautiful and Jon's property is. The view is beautiful and the house is very clean and comfortable. Jon goes out of his way to make sure your stay is perfect. Would love to go back in the Spring or Summer. So many beautiful areas to see. Even had a fun night at the casino!
It has a very private feel even though as in other reviews he is on property; but you would never know it.

A beautifully sited and furnished condo with gorgeous ocean views. It's quiet, calming and restorative. The hosts are exceptionally thoughtful of guests' needs and have fully and tastefully furnished the place. Their knives and saute pans are even good - that really is a rarity! Jonathan goes out of his way to make sure he respects his guests' privacy but you would be missing a treat if you chat with that witty, delightful and knowledgeable man. Even the guest manual makes for entertainment reading. We liked the place so much we ate in most meals - it felt SO good just to be there.

Amazing place. The view is short of breath taking.

The rental and property are amazing. The view is mesmerising. We saw whales and a family of otters playing just off the shoreline. The walk down to the beach is close and easy to access. The property is beautiful. The rental was immaculately clean with very upscale options. Wi-Fi worked without a hitch. The neighbourhood was so peaceful. We are looking forward to a return trip to Sequim. And we’ll look to stay at this place again !!!

Sanctuary by the sea is an appropriate name for this vacation property. Enjoyed the beautiful view which included gorgeous sunsets. The house was very comfortable, felt like we were home. The property owner provided us with excellent dining options and things to do. We will definitely be back.

Excellent accomodation. Lovely deck and landscaping all around the house. Don't know how Jon, our host, finds the time to manage it all. Outstanding water view with Victoria Canada in the distance. Next to the property is a public park with a short downhill walk to the rocky beach where you can watch sea otters, birds and seals perform. Sequim and Port Angeles are close by with plenty of grocery and dining options.
This was an outstanding base of poerations to explore Olympic National Park.

This was my best VRBO experience I have had to date. All members of my family were wowed. We had just stayed in other places on our Washington adventure, some of which were quite disappointing. This did not disappoint! I gave every category of my review 5 stars. The owner was awesome, friendly and helpful but not intruding. Even emailed me tips for visiting the area. Can't say enough. Would come back here in a heartbeat!

Our stay was very comfortable and peaceful. Jon is a perfect host who tries to make himself available if the guests would like to reach out but also happy to stay out of the way if that is preferred. The home is immaculate and stocked with everything you could need, including extras and the garden and view are breathtaking. Our kids also really enjoyed the short walk through some woods to the public access stairs to the water and rocky beach. We look forward to returning again soon!

Incredibly appointed VRBO- with phenomenal hosts. Stay here, it’s that simple!

Jon was a terrific host! We loved their home, so comfortable. The location of the house is a bit remote and definitely has a million dollar view of the water. It's a quiet location. Some VRBOs use poor quality furniture, linens, etc. That is not the case here. Comfy furniture, nice linens, on and on, I can't say enough nice about this location and I'm picky :)

If you want to unplug, emerge yourself in the calmness of the ocean, the quietness of the surrounding, and allow your soul to be peaceful, come here! The hosts are truly genuine and thoughtful!! We had the most joyful stay — comfortable beds, full functional kitchen, beautiful view and garden, and very clean home, here! Thank you!

What a healing, restorative place Jonathan and Amanda Vore have created. We had a list of several things we had planned to do in our short three day stay in the area. Their place was so tasteful, immaculate and dare we say magical that we had a hard time leaving it each day to do our exploring! They have thought of everything you might need and then some. Thank you for your hospitality, your attention to detail and cleanliness and for sharing your truly beautiful home with us.

Immaculate place with stunning views. We loved sitting on the deck and enjoying the sunset. Beds were super comfy. This home had everything we needed to just relax and restore. Just a short five minute walk to the beach next door. Hosts were friendly and provided everything we needed. Highly recommend!
