You will enjoy entertaining on the deck with an outdoor kitchen and spa that offer amazing lake views. For wine enthusiasts, there is a hobby vineyard featuring Cab and Merlot varietals on approx. 2/3 acre. Bring all your toys because there are two 5-acre easements for lake access located nearby. This was a perfect accommodation for a weekend getaway. There is a well stocked kitchen in terms of pots/pans/dishes and guests have access to an impressive outdoor kitchen area. The hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming. It is in a very rural area, which I think the hosts make clear in preparing guests in terms of the benefits of arriving during the day, bringing sufficient food supplies, and making sure you have enough gas. We stayed in winter and did not make use of the lake; however, it is very close to the lake of which they have amazing views.

A quiet, rural setting in the hills surrounding Lake Nacimiento. Great if you want to get away from city traffic and bustle - it's almost an hour drive from the city on winding hilly roads, but a short walk to the lakeshore and surrounded by nature.
Treacherous and confusing drive on narrow winding roads. Definitely make the drive during daylight hours! You'll receive very detailed driving directions when you book. PRINT THEM OUT! Cell reception is spotty throughout the drive, and you really don't want to be on these roads without the directions. Also, fill up on gas and get your groceries before starting on the rural roads.
The property itself is a detached apartment beside the hosts' main home with a well-equipped kitchen and a good espresso machine. The hosts' grill, smoker, BBQ pit, and hot tub are available for guests. I spent plenty of time in the hot tub - it's A-OK!
The hosts (Mitch and Judy) are kind, responsive and accommodating - they will happily help you with anything you need - coffee, supplies, and ideas on things to see and do nearby.
Overall, it was a fun getaway for the 3 days I was there. Great if you're looking for a quiet and remote place where you can take it easy and get back to nature for a few days.

It was a lot of work to get to the property since there was a road closure and no signal on the way. The property owner was good with communication and showed us around the property. The place is quiet and has an amazing view. I wish there was something to do nearby but mostly everything is far away. We did notice a musty smell when we entered but got used to it. This place is perfect if you want to get away and relax by the lake.

Host was very generous and accommodating. Great hike down to the lake and back, amazing grill area at the house and down on the dock. Kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, knives, and utensils. The bed is full sized, so maybe a bit small for some. The fancy espresso maker was the frosting on the cake!

we had a wonderful over the Thanksgiving holiday. The property is just beautiful, we had full access to property and the floating dock on the lake. Our stay was peaceful and quiet and the property owners are very friendly and generous. We plan to return at some point in the future and we highly recommend that you do too. Thank you Mitch and Judy for everthing! ;-)

We had such a great time at this beautiful retreat! It is a beautiful drive to the property with wonderful views the whole time! We enjoyed the space and how helpful the hosts were! I would definitely book again, I just wished we had booked it for longer!

Loved running away for my birthday weekend. Mitch and Judy, kindest and most considerate hosts. They had shared in an earlier email gas and groceries about 40 minutes away, so we loaded up on groceries, enjoyed cooking in their apartment guest house kitchen. . Their apartment was gorgeous on a sprawling lake view property. Made us feel so comfortable and even let us bathe our dog Dixie in their-upscale pet spa. Loved their dock and enjoyed kayaking, swimming, playing with our water dog and grilling burgers. So restful and just perfect get away, and let us escape for a few days to another world. Thank you for sharing your oasis with us, we would love to come again.

You truly need to experience this vrbo rental all on your own because words could never describe this place. The dock was the absolute highlight of our trip although we didn't stay too long, I know exactly what I want to do when I return. I highly advise getting your food shopping before arriving since the nearest store is approx. 45 minutes away. Everything inside the rental was neat, clean, and organized. Sabrina, the host's daughter was very pleasant and willing to help.

Amazing spot, comfortable, private and clean with full access to a stocked dock and entire outdoor area. Great communication and welcome vibes. Zero complaints. Thanks Mitch we will return!

Do NOT book this property. Host does not communicate and driving conditions to property are unsafe. The host gave us the wrong gate code, there were multiple road closures with detours to property, and final road to property was wahed out. Host wanted us to “drive through” the flooded road. We did not feel this was safe so we booked another place. Host refused to refund. We wasted 45 minutes driving to a flooded road and had to drive 45 minutes back and book another place last minute. This was a nightmare of an experience. VRBO provided no help. Will never book through them again.

My husband and I wanted to experience Paso Robles but also stay at a quiet place away from city like traffic. Although this place is 50min away from Paso we really didn’t mind the drive. We had access to the owners boat dock and enjoy beautiful days in the lake. We also loved the view in front of the house, gorgeous sunrise! The room is comfortable for two people but it allows 3. We will definitely come back next summer. Thank you!

The house was very nice. A bit far from the campground. Lake crossing at night was very interesting. The place was very quiet.

I cannot say enough about this incredible family. Because we were on a road trip, we didn’t get to print out the itinerary ahead of time. We had to call several times, but they they were so nice to let us called him several times and walk us through how to get there. They even fed us, because we didn’t see the PDF explaining there was no grocery stores around for 40 minutes. I don’t know what we would’ve done, they were so so lovely, and I cannot say enough about their wonderful hospitality. We hope to stay there again soon! 5 stars all the way

Pro - reasonably priced, dog friendly with large yard for dogs to run around.
Con - not suitable if you want to explore Paso Robles; it will take an hour to drive from this place to downtown.

What a lovely location. The inside of the apartment was also beautiful. However, we couldn't get the microwave to work properly -- needs instructions. Also, more detailed instructions for the coffee maker would be helpful. Also, the wifi connection for the TV was spotty. Loved the views, house dogs, and wildlife.

The views are amazing and the accommodations were superb. Very tranquil and relaxing and I’m already looking forward to my next stay. It is pretty far up in the mountains but very much worth the journey of getting there. Aloha and Mahalo from a very satisfied guest.

The lake was very low when we were there. I should start out by saying at the time of covid and changing dates etc, Mitch and his wife were super accomodating. So the visit ended up being in early fall with 2 best friends and their dog. OMG I could have stayed a month. They were VERY low key. Mitch came over, was very hospitable and yet was perfect because we never felt under pressure etc. This was to me a perfect vaca. It is far out but we had silence and stars and each other and wonderfullness. We did run over to the public side of the lake and it wasn't too far. I can't wait to go back!!

It was peaceful staying in this small studio that is in the middle of nowhere. If you live in Paso Robles then renting this place to getaway from the city could be worth it. If you’re driving in from farther away, this becomes a grueling drive up a mountain that takes you so far from city center and other attractions you may want to enjoy. There is pretty much nothing to do but walk outside on the mountains or stay inside.

This is a great option for those wanting a remote getaway.

Beautiful drive to get there.
The drive to the property from the Hwy is about an hour. Lots of wineries and wildlife on the way.

This rental is a equivalent of a granny unit (separate structure) in the backyard of the owner's property. Some tips to help you prepare for your stay:
Location: it is 45 min drive to get out of the woods and to downtown Paso Robles, so be prepared. Your gas tank should have enough to get in and out since there aren't any stations until you get out of the woods. Same goes for any food, snacks, or drinks. This would be a good location if you are planning to disconnect.
For this same reason, activity choices may be confined to hiking, a scenic drive, winery hopping (must have passed by more than 10 of them on the way to the rental) or however you like to spend time on the lake. If you going to bring a trailer, note that some parts of the roads in the woods will have signs saying 8% grade.
Lake access is downhill (some parts quite steep) from the rental, either by walking 0.5-1mile or drive down closer (gravel road). We didn't feel like we brought the right car (sedan) to get too close to the lake, as we didn't want to get stuck in any gravel/sand.
Pet friendly, but may be encouraged to keep your pet with you during your outings per reading materials provided. Owners have a few huskies/mix, which they kept away from the yard during our stay so I felt safe letting my shihtzu in/out the rental at times without a leash.
Check in: coordination with owner requested due to needing to put their dogs away. May need to coordinate entries/exits from their main gate depending on this situation.
The view was great from their front yard though, since the location was so far up the hill. Owner allowed us to use their grill for our hot dogs and use their patio furniture to enjoy them in. Their front yard was beautiful and wonderful to enjoy if you don't mind that their front yard is under their bay windows/quite visible from within their main house.
Star gazing there at night was nice as well, since it's so far away from light pollution.

An amazing location in the hills!
Even the drive to get to the property is an adventure! Moving through some spectacular wine country and with lots of wildlife to see, we arrived at a quiet place for 2 nights. A really nice studio with a great coffee machine meant we didn't leave the property...we were happy to enjoy the peace and hot weather. Thanks!
