Nice, quiet and clean place

Despite the favorable ratings, the hotel was very average and mediocre. The room was not adequately furnished as you had no where to put your suitcase. The place has lots of potential, however it is very basic. Due to that would stay here again. What we enjoyed more than anything else was the location, as it is so close to the coast.

The host family of this hotel is friendly and caring. The limited continental breakfast was a good, light way to start the day. The linens were clean and there were extras in the closet. The mattress was a bit hard but there were good choices of pillows on the bed. The location is good with enough parking for the guests. The coffee maker in the room is excellent as is the fridge. There was a fan in the closet and a ceiling fan but no air-conditioning. There are bikes to rent but we brought our own so I can not report on that. Great bike riding area!

Place is a hidden gem. It was clean, spacious and the staff was extremely attentive. 7 min walk to the ocean. 100% would go back

The rooms are spacious, the staff is very friendly and tentative. They make you feel at home. Will stay here in the future. You are 5 min walk away from an amazing sunset.

The Sunset Inn was good for a one night stay. The location is great. The room was clean. The towel bar was broken and the coffee maker didn't work well.

Have stayed here several times and each visit has been quite nice. Clean, friendly office staff, easy grab and go or picnic breakfast foods. A block to the beach and beach walk.

Very clean room, but the bed was awful and we didn't sleep. It made noises when anyone moved, like a hospital bed, so not possible for a couple. There was a lot of noise in the room, the walls are very thin and it was overall very uncomfortable. The mirror in the bathroom was on the left side wall, not straight ahead, which was really bizarre as well.

Our stay was great, comfy rooms and beds but there was an issue with the internet in our room. One half of the room had no service and the other half had perfect service/wifi. The bathroom is spacious but there’s a weird smell to it once you showered or used it. There’s no fan in the bathroom and fogs up everything but there is a window above the shower. Overall it was a pretty good stay.

A quaint and cozy little jewel in a very nice location!
Superb welcome by general manager Rishi!
Close to the ocean, it's location also makes it super easy to access the central Monterey area.

Gorgeous little hideaway with friendly and welcoming staff! Can't do enough for you. If I'm back from UK again - I shall certainly return. 20 minute walk from all shops and restaurants and minutes from the outstanding beautiful coastline where you can sit and let all your worries float away!

Conveniently located, easy to walk to ocean or town. We have stayed here before and it is obvious that management has been making great improvements. Clean and comfortable. Would have been all top scores except for the breakfast. Office area shares area for continental breakfast. In a word, tight. Easy to assemble some items and take it all back to your room. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Awesome stay. Possibly the kindest staff I’ve ever experienced. Beautiful room, Squeaky clean, and my favorite hotel shower ever.

It’s a nice little spot, tucked away in a beautiful neighborhood and minutes from the ocean. I have been to this Inn a few times and the management has changed. With the change, the breakfast choices have become less and the service not as good. The couple that checked me in were very sweet and kind though.
Also, not keen on all the statues of Buddha and weird cats everywhere. Everyone is entitled to believe what they want but it was a bit too much for me.
The room I stayed in was clean but a bit dark as it had windows that opened up to a high fence. I do love the wooden floors. The tv could use an update; it was small and the picture distorted because it was an older tv.
I had a nice stay but I often spend lots of time in my room reading, puzzling etc. and this room was, though roomy enough for one, made me feel slightly claustrophobic.

The proprietors are so friendly and welcoming. It was like we were being welcomed into their home. He told us places for great walks and recommended eating places. Great snacks and drinks were available all the time and there were great selections for the complimentary breakfast.

Breakfast is not up to expectation: too few of healthy choices.

The 18th Hole , the name of the room that I stayed in, was little more than a room at motel 6. I reserved a superior room and got a standard room that was 100 square feet less. When I showed the owner a picture of the room I reserved, he told me that the room I was in was the best one at the inn. I later saw a picture on their website of what a standard room looked like - it was the exact room I was in. So not only did I pay for a superior room and get put in a much smaller standard, the owner lied to my face about it. Forget this place !! Spend another $50 and get a beautiful Victorian room in one of the many B & B’s in town.

The Sunset Inn looks like it has recently been refreshed, with new paint and amenities throughout the property. Our unit was sparsely decorated, which means both more floor space and less countertop space (one small round table with two chairs, and two small end tables next to each side of the bed). The fireplace was a nice amenity, but lighting it took two visits to the office as there wasn't a clearly noted control panel.
This is a long, narrow property. Parking is a challenge, especially if you arrive after dinner. I ended up parking in a handicap space both nights, and someone else parked in the "no parking" area next to me.
They offer a light breakfast, and the coffee/juice machine is available as long as the office is open. They have plenty of maps, a complimentary copy of the local paper, and good local knowledge on restaurants and "things to do" near the hotel.
The owners and their staff are polite, kind, and responsive. The office closes at 9:00p, and they frown on making noise outside your bungalow after that. There are chairs and tables outside each bungalow, so you can sit outside and talk while enjoying a glass of wine or some food.
Overall, we had a good experience at the Sunset Inn.

Property is nice and quite. Bed is hard and could not sleep well, couch had stains and look dirty, we did not sit on it. But over all good for the price you pay.

I had to drop my travel to Monterey,CA due to weather condition predictions of heavy rainfall. I requested thru Expedia to get a refund approval request after the rental cancellation window was over. Although the condition was beyond me but I was not approved for the refund so I have no idea of how the property is except that when there is a genuine reason of weather forecast not becoming conducive I was denied of the refund and was charged full.

Nice and clean suite. Great location near the beach. Free parking. Very good service. Breakfast was modest but did it's job. Would recommend!

Even on a rainy weekend, Pacific Grove is a beautiful and breathtaking place! Sunset Inn is a lovely home base for exploring all that the Monterey Bay area has to offeer. The cottages are clean and nicely decorated, and the whole place has a lovely, mellow vibe. We were a short walk from some of the most beautiful beaches on earth, a great golf course and restaurant, and the Monarch Butterfly refuge. It was a short drive to everything else. I admire the owners of the Sunset Inn for making the place so welcoming and affordable. We will return soon!

The rooms were clean and comfortable! The shower had goldy water pressure which was so nice. The hosts/staff were friendly and availble. The hotel was tucked away a little ways from the downtown area bit near the beautiful rocky shores with great views. I would absolutely stay here again!

Private rooms, easy to find. Convenient parking. Close to the coast and sites to see.

The property itself was great. The service itself was not due to its dishonesty with charges.
This room was prepaid for with hotels.com $207.63 a month in advance. When we arrived the hotel charged another $192.77. This was not for security deposits, resort fees, or room charges as this was already paid for.
Upon checkout I asked about the $192.77 charged and Sandy stated they never charged that. I showed them my bank charge and asked for a receipt in order to dispute. Sandy said he can’t provide a receipt stating that charge was from hotels.com and that the charge was a “duplicate and will disappear”.
I contacted hotels.com, where Jerico called the hotel, Sandy saying the charge was a pre authorization charge by the hotel but would give no reason why.
We should have never been charged for a room that was already paid for. We should have never been lied to by Sunset Inn stating the charge was not from them when it really was. Now I’m waiting on a refund and unsure if this will become a dispute I’ll have to do with our bank for fraudulent charges.
There was too much back and forth with Sandy at check out & the younger man who checked us in. The young man denied ever charging our card upon check in with photo ID and showing card on file. I’m not a fan of being implied we were lying when we gave proof of the live bank charge (not pending).
Beware of inaccurate charges made by this hotel. Be sure to take names and get receipts.

My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at the Sunset Inn. The staff is very kind and accommodating. I had an issue with the room we were initially given but the staff was understanding and gave us a different room. I loved how peaceful and quiet the surrounding area is. I would stay here again.

I loved this place. I’ll stay here again if I travel Monterey again.
