This is the place to go! The minute you walk in, you feel part of the family. Our rooms were bright, pretty, clean and comfortable. We liked the big common terraces and the bright, wide corridors where we could sit and chat. We found that the restaurant offered good, affordable choices whether for breakfast or other meals, and we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the pub. All the staff members we dealt with were helpful and friendly. We are already looking for a pretext to visit Victoria, just for the pleasure of staying again!

Amazing staff! Friendly and willing to help with anything to make your stay more comfortable. Clean, large nice room (double queen). Liked the character of the place throughout. Centrally located to visit downtown Victoria.

This is a lovely older hotel in one of the best locations. Parking is terrific. The rooms are big, clean and comfortable with top class bed and chairs. However, my room and several others with windows partially open are subject to the aroma of cannabis and cigarettes from patrons standing outside the rear door of the bar below. I put up with it. Will you?

A quirky hotel which we really enjoyed staying at, it was charming.
We would have appreciated a kettle in the room but apart from that it was great.

The hosts are very friendly, providing all the information and were very welcoming. They assisted me for cash changing to smaller notes for buses as well, and were very caring asking the renovation to start later to provide minimal disturbance to my sleep. Thank you for the hospitality!

Fantastic location within walking distance of downtown. Lovely historic building!

Quaint inn, in a great neighbourhood for walking and exploring Victoria. Excellent value. Only complaint would be central heating, which meant no control over the temperature in the room.

I love this hotel. Nothing chain-like about it, the space is unique and lovely and the desk clerks are warm and friendly. It's the only place I'll stay when in Victoria.

Loved the character of this Victoris building. Fantastic staff, excellent restaurant and cafe downstairs, clean, comfy cozy sleep too.

The James Bay Inn is in a beautiful and convenient location close to but separate from the bustle of Downtown Victoria. What it lacks in amenities it makes up for in service and charm. The staff are outstanding!

A lovely stay at the James Bay Inn. Clean room, very comfy bed. I will definitely stay here again when I visit Victoria next and highly recommend it!

I found the James Bay in to be extremely charming and affordable. It was conveniently located near the Parliament building and the Legislature Exchange bus stop (I opted to take advantage of Victoria’s transit system and walkability.) The pub and cafe were booming with friendly locals and the front desk staff were friendly when you are bopping through the lobby on your way to your room or out for an adventure. They do put a $100 hold for each day of your stay, but remove it right away at checkout when other larger chain hotels just wait for the charge to drop in 7-10 days. The room was a little small and crowded but over all I would stay here again and recommend to others.

Close to all the tourist-eee $pots downtown.

My room was sparkling clean with organic coffee ready to go for the morning. This is a beautiful vintage property in a quiet neighbourhood with a really cool Art Deco restaurant downstairs. Good coffee and great pancakes!
It was a little older and more rustic than what I had in mind, and I was in one of the house properties adjacent to the hotel itself. I would have appreciated knowing this in advance. That said, the room was a converted suite with a kitchenette and full bathroom so it was fine. Not fancy, and furnishings a little dated, but super clean and I love having a restaurant on site. Anyone with mobility issues, definitely avoid staying in the house I was in as the stairs are very steep.
I definitely recommend - the proximity to downtown and all the major tourist attractions, and Beacon Hill park a 5 minute walk away, while still being really quiet, make it very attractive.

Nice hotel. Very friendly staff and informal, which i really enjoyed.
Parking was extremely limited due to pub downstairs. That was frustrating.
Saying that, food in pub and restaurant was so good and serving were good size.

Welcoming and gracious staff really made us feel at home. Hotel is old and has so much character. The rooms are spacious and clean. Location is amazing!

Unique property, full of character. Restaurant operated separately - had an excellent breakfast. My room was by the garbage pick up area so some noise in morning. Would go back.

Very quaint. Had the "innkeeper" feel - felt very safe being a female travelling on my own. Loved being able to leave my car in the parking lot during the day after checking out and walking all around the James Bay area.
Would definitely stay there again.
Small rooms for those whom that would matter to.

James Bay in Victoria is a wonderful walking around experience, no rental car needed. And at the centre of our stays is the welcoming and home style experience in this still going strong 120 year old hotel. The attached and very reasonable priced pub, restaurant, and bookable party room with long-serving staff we know well are a key part of it

Beautiful old hotel in the the nicest neighbourhood in the city. Rooms are a bit small compared to larger, newer hotels but this is made up for by charm. Staff were very friendly and helpful and it was great being so close and walkable to downtown Victoria without actually being in the downtown! Nice little restaurant as well. Would stay again and recommend to family and friends.

The James Bay Inn is my go-to hotel in Victoria, BC! I absolutely love it! The location got me in the door, and the staff and the way they took care of me and the hotel have kept me coming back for a while now! The Inn and grounds are very clean and always well maintained, the rooms are well appointed, and the team is always right there to help when needed! The location is perfect, only 10 minutes walk from the Inner Harbor and 10 minutes to the Straits of Juan De Fuca! And at night, it is whisper quiet! Love this place!

Major kudos to Roy, Sherry in the pub, Conner in the cafe for making this stay so very enjoyable.

The staff here are really the stars. Thank you .

Such a beautiful historic Inn. Grateful for the warm welcome, and convenient location. Just a few minutes walking distance from the downtown core, and a few minutes the other way for the beautiful coastal boardwalk.

Cute litte hotel in a nice quiet neighborhood. Close enough to walk downtown to restaurants, bars, parliament buildings, etc. The building is an old heritage building, so it's a little dated but charming. Good amenities for the price. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Free parking is nice as well. There is also a restaurant and pub on site. We will definitely stay here again!

Lovely boutique-style hotel. Large, clean rooms with windows that open. Great reception & staff. Easy to walk to downtown Victoria from.
No elevators, though--so be prepared to carry your bags up several flights of stairs.

This hotel is such a bargain, especially for how lovely it is! If you are looking for modern and posh this is not your place. If you are looking for clean and comfortable with a very accommodating staff... with antiques and a very interesting history then this place cannot be beat! We will be staying again on our next trip to Victoria! Very convenient to everything!

The James Bay Inn is located a walkable distance from major attractions but is also in a beautiful old residential area. The king sized bed in our room was very comfortable and the room was quiet. The staff is very personable and the dining facilities are great. Good food, attractive retro dining room. It’s obviously popular with the locals as well as inn guests. Great pub to hang out in. Reasonable prices. We’d definitely stay again.
