Great location in Uptown Saint John. Chipman Hill Suites are superbly maintained. Excellent communication from registration and check-in staff. Property is very well decorated in heritage style and equipped with modern conveniences

The property is in great shape and a wonderful old building. The rooms are spacious and well appointed as well. While it may seem old that just adds to its charm. I appreciated the self check in of the property. The area however is like some of Saint Johns unfortunate less than safe feeling areas, but that's not the property's fault so I won't hold that against them.

This property is beautiful, you think you live 150 years ago. What a beautiful house, the sitting room, living room, winter garden, we had the room with the balcony. I wish we would have had more nights. But the parking is a night mare. During the day was not a problem, but in the evening, we came in at around 22h OMG. We parked were we told to park across by the school, but then we had to move by 7am to a different spot, and than find one. We lucked out after 1 hr searching, we of the guest left and we could get his spot.

Tastefully decorated suite in a beautiful old building. Very clean and bed was exceptionally comfortable..Close and therefore walkable to uptown restaurants and to the Sunday market in Queens Square. Paid for Parking pass in front of building or in any residential area very convenient. Wifi was unreliable, password not always accepted. Disturbing noise emission from the neighbouring building’s a/c prevented us from opening balcony door to vent our suite. These two issues bring down the rating from excellant to great.

Location is perfect for exploring downtown.

An old Loyalist style building with a curving staircase and high ceilings. If you are looking for style, sitting rooms with large windows and furniture dated to the Loyalist period then this is your spot. A true 1800’s experience.
There is no elevator, of course, so be prepared to carry your cases up the stairs. Our suite was well appointed and although not large, large enough for the two of us on an anniversary trip.
Near the community centre of King Square (2 min walk) and all the shops of uptown Saint John. The famous City Market is opposite the square which resides at the top of King Street. The waterfront at the bottom of King is alive with walkers who don’t mind getting exercise on the ‘San Francisco’ type streets.
When the cruise ship is in uptown is extremely busy.
Be aware, this city takes its statutory holidays seriously. Everything shuts down on the stat holiday, even on the August New Brunswick Day holiday at the height of tourist season, as we discovered.

The property itself is really lovely. Old Victorian, great period furniture, beautifully decorated. Our room was clean and bed comfortable. Thoughtfully appointed for our convenience...thick towels and nice bed linen, Coffee and tea, small kitchenette. Great communication by the innkeeper!
However, the area didn't feel that safe, with sketchy/drunk or stoned people walking about. Walked down to the restaurant area but made sure we came back when it was still light.

Beautiful residence and very clean rooms with everything you need! Parking was right across the street and the house keeper did an amazing job on the room. Would definitely come back

great room. Only issue I had was confusion over the keylock on the building. I was trying to put the code into the little key holder next to the door (and not the door itself). LOL. my fault.

We chose this property for the location and the experience of the period building, and it did not disappoint. Lots of great food and beer options close by, and walking distance to the markets and harbour. We knew going in that there weee a lot of stairs, and being on the third floor we certainly got a daily workout. The room was clean and had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. We never had a problem parking across the road, but it was summer break so no school.

Beautiful building, close to shops, food and the harbour. Staff communication was excellent, including options and instructions for parking- as you are in the downtown area of Saint John, parking can be a bit challenging if it is your first visit. CHS staff was great on all counts.

Lovely property! Very clean, well appointed rooms. Just a short walk from restos and pubs uptown. Great communication leading up to and during our stay too. Loved it and will be back!

It's an old style lodging. Really dig the throwback vibe. The back seating area was kind of a spectacular space.

Absolutely incredible. Couldn't recommend this place enough. It's beautiful, clean, old and historic. Soooo close to the entertainment district. I didn't want to leave the solarium or the piano rooms. Highly recommended.

Perfect place to stay overnight and see Saint John! We all enjoyed our time at Chipman Hill

Downstairs is very nice, especially the conservatory. Have to walk about one and a half flights to go up one level. Parking is horrible, necessitating moving our car each morning at 7:30 am due to no on-street parking the night before. The bed was also very tall making getting on the bed difficult (especially for those of us who are in our 70s).

After a little hiccup with check-in that was taken care of promptly and to our satisfaction, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 71 Sydney. The room was beautiful and there were some really nice common spaces available for our use. Being able to do laundry was great. So many places within walking distance but when we ventured out by car it was easy to get to and from the hotel. Once we figured out where we could and couldn’t park, there were no issues. The only thing was that the two-burner stove in our room didn’t work very well so cooking was a bit of a challenge, but we worked around it. Overall a very pleasant stay and we would definitely stay here again!

Nk onsite parking. The parking instructions were detailed, but there were no spots available, so we had to find street parking...whoch thankfully was not too difficult.

Lovely old Victorian mansion. Enjoyed the atmosphere of the home. We had a street side room and found it a bit noisy, could hear all of the little cars with the funky mufflers.

The suite was located in a beautiful, heritage building, but the charm ended there. Our room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke (overwhelming as soon as we opened the door), there was way too much furniture in a small space, it was hot and bright (the window shutters couldn’t be closed due to the window unit air conditioner, the bed was uncomfortable, and the kitchenette rattled loudly every time the refrigerator turned on and off. I am very surprised by the high rating for these rooms, because I definitely will not return.

I didn’t understood that it was a self check in.
I received so many emails with a lot of indications before my stay. It was really not simple, It was way too much. We have a long vacantion and I didn’t appreciate the fact that I received so much email.
AND more !!!! The hotel called my at 10 am (They woke up us) because they thought I was giving them a bad review !
I’m really disappointed

Nice bed and linens.
Very small room, only one coffee mug, long wait for hot water.

Beautiful historical property. Well maintained. I like historical everything so this is kind of neat. There is a little kitchenette in the room and we were able to bring home lobster and then eat it in the nice living room. It would be amazing if they served breakfast there but they don’t. There are 2 pianos there and lots of books to read. There are rooms in the main house and servant corridor… nice location… I appreciate that old property with historical value is being kept well. There is also laundry machine for guest to use for free. I don’t have anything to complain about.

Wonderful large room in a very historical building. The solarium in the common area is spectacular.
