The hotel is located in a wonderful location, Just few minutes walk to the Main Street at Arashiyama. Staff provide excellent services and all of them are very helpful. Dinner and breakfast is very healthy and delicious. Rooms and public onsen is very clean. Hotel rate is very reasonable. I am very satisfied with everything in this hotel and I will come back next time when I go to Arashiyama.

Beautiful authentic Japanese ryokan. Friendly staff and great service.

Beautiful ryokan with amazing staff. Hospitality was top-notch. Food was very thoughtfully plated and delicious! Cannot recommend more highly.

This was the best accommodation we have ever stayed at. The staff is better than ANY 5-star hotel I’ve stayed at, they provide very personal and helpful service. Which is likely easy for them as there are only a few rooms in the property. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, all amenities are provided and yes, traditional robes are provided as well during the stay. The nearby attractions like the Bamboo walk and Monkey Park are minutes away by foot. There’s great street food nearby, though they do close by 5-6pm. Overall, would highly highly recommend a stay at Ryotei Rangetsu if you are able to get an available room.

One of the highlights of the trip. An absolute must if you want to stay in a traditional Ryokan. Location was an added bonus to the bamboo forest and monkey park. Staff was top notch!

The staff were I kind and extremely thoughtful. We went out for a walk in the rain. They gave us umbrellas but our shoes still got wet. They put our shoes in a drying compartment so when we came back down to go to dinner, they were warm and dry. Our rooms was large with a beautiful view. I would stay here again!

Ryotei Rangetsu was excellent! The staff were friendly and accommodating. The property was clean, spacious, and the onsen easily accesible and well kept. The location is also excellent. Right outside of the Main Street, on the river, but quiet. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The staffs are very friendly, the food is very good.
After we check out, the staff contacted us about an item being left in our room. At the end, the staff delivered the item to our hotel in downtown Kyoto. This shows their hospitality and care to their customers.
100% would revisit.

We stayed one night at this place while touring round Japan. We decided to splash out as we wanted to stay at a traditional ryokan. Both breakfast and dinner, was superb and was served by the maid in your room which made it extra special. Bath tub in room was epic and the spa area was perfect to relax. As a gay couple we had no problems as staff were very friendly. Location was perfect as overlooked a big loch and was right next to a great coffee shop and the beautiful arishyama town. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely stunning hotel. The location is right on the water and rooms have a beautiful view. The baths (gender separated and fully nude) were very relaxing. Our room came with a soaking tub, which we loved. Breakfast was very interesting, like nothing we've eaten before--dinner as well. I would highly recommend a night or two at Ryotei Rangetsu.

My husband and I both liked our stay at this Ryokon but felt that it was over priced

Garden faces the river while having your own private onsen with view of the sunset. Room is excellent with separate entrance and living dining room and bedroom opening up to the moss garden. Great staff attitude and service and excellent private dining in the comfort of your room. Location is great and just a short walk to shops and restaurants along the river walk

I was looking to give myself a treat after backpacking for a couple of weeks. Having the experience of trying a Japanese style room was amazing. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are amazing! Will definitely come back

The ryokan is located right beside a river. Very beautiful landscape and view. If you plan to spend a day or so in Arashiyama, this hotel is a great choice.
Delicate Japanese style garden and room, comfortable futons and hot tub.
The staff was very friendly and polite. The in-room breakfast was great, even better tasting than the cuisine we had in an expensive restaurant nearby the hotel.

Excellent hotel, clean, large rooms, very artfully arranged, fresh flowers. Staff will bend over backwards for you. Delicious breakfast. There was a strange noise coming from the wall in the morning, only negative.

Superb service and outstanding food quality that I had experienced two days ago, it was way beyond our expectation in light of customer-focused service, seasonal food quality and historical location. For instance, we were assigned with a lady butler to serve in-room dinner and breakfast, prepare our beds after dinner and arrange bath before our arrival. The hotel manager and the lady butler helped us to call taxi and also waited at the hotel entrance for farewell until our taxi left the premise. This room is also facilitated with private bathroom and external bath, it was really special to us though we didn't try the external bath during our stay coz it was around 7 degree there. In addition, the maximum privacy can also be offered as I barely met other guests around. Finally, there are many tourist attractions such as bamboo forrest around this hotel within 10-15 min walk, it is definitely an excellent ryokan hotel for couples and families.

Was an amazing first experience at a ryokan. Very traditional feels but the staff, food, and room made you feel like a noble being well taken cared of and formal. Be warned that the formality may not work out for everyone and is best for customers that can fully respect that. No loud noises. Children must be respectful as this is a quiet inn. Meals are scheduled and must be on time as staff take great care of preparing your meals in dazzling trays and service. DO NOT MISS BREAKFAST, it was the BEST part of our trip in Kyoto. You CANNOT find any traditional service with such great quality as you would see "complimentary" with your stay!!! The dinner service I feel may have been prepared by a different chef, the taste and care was leagues below the breakfast offering. It's also expensive and 9 courses, it was difficult to finish because the tastes were very different to Western palettes. Futon style beds were surprisingly comfortable and onsen was a treat.
Location is far from Kyoto central which is a wonderful place to visit for sight seeing and nightlife. Super safe to walk at night. Arashiyama is a very quite "suburban" neighborhood that closes fairly early (6PM wind down) that makes it great for locals but disappointing for tourists who want to make the most of their trip. But during the day it's a great place with food and Bamboo Forest as well as several sight seeing points walking distance away.

Excellent service, delicious food, happy stay!
I stayed in Ryotei Rangetsu with my family member for 2 nights in mid-November. We have enjoyed 4 tasty meals in the room (breakfast+dinner) which were presented beautifully. The staff was kind and helpful. Moreover, there is onsen in the hotel. It couldn't be more relaxed to bath in onsen. Overall, we enjoy our stay in Ryotei Rangetsu and will definitely recommend this hotel to others.

The most elegant, unique place we have ever stayed. The attention paid to us by the staff was astounding. The food was amazing with full Kaiseki meals served either in your room, or a private dining room. It is a five-star experience in Japanese hospitality and cuisine. The bedrooms are simple in the Japanese style, but with all of the mod-cons. The bathroom was amazing, with doors that opened to the outdoors. it is expensive, but restorative and unique, and we found it to be worth every penny.

I dont have any bad things to say about this place. Everything is perfect! The service was outstanding. When we enter the hotel, they told us to take off our shoes and then the entire place is shoe prohibited. You can imagine not clean it is! Only thing is I regret that I only stayed 1 night, should have stayed for longer

The service is excellent than we expected. Good location just beside the river. Staff are very friendly and can speak some English.
