'The Swallow Loft' at Leitriff House - 19thC Stone Barn conversion
About this house rental
Located in Galway, this attractive house for $426 per night is a great option for your next trip. This unique holiday accommodation offers a combination of contemporary and vernacular features and furnishings. It is bright, cozy, comfortable and spacious. The main living space is located on the first floor which is accessed through an interesting stairwell full of the barns original texture - white-washed stonewalls, liscannor stone flag floors, recycled church and shop doors all lead into a bright welcoming living space. Large roof lights and a glass patio door lead out to a garden which is located at a higher level of ground at the back of the barn. This is very private with a small timber deck with table and chairs for relaxing in the garden... when looking out at the flowers and fruit trees its hard to believe the centre of Galway is only 2 miles away! There is free wifi and satellite television, and a radio. The kitchen is modern and bright - with good appliances including a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, and well stocked drawers with pots & pans, casseroles, cooking utensils, toaster, electric kettle and coffee press (cafetiere)- and whatever else you may need we will try to supply. The double bedroom is located on this floor and right beside it is a very nice quality bathroom with a large enclosed glass shower unit with a shower with plenty of presure. The second bedroom is located on the ground floor and has two single beds. There is a bathroom ensuite with a glassed in shower unit. All bedlinen is supplied with good duvets and extra blankets. We also know how important it is to have an assortment of fluffy towels supplied. There is a hairdryer in each of the bedrooms. The house is heated by oil- fired central heating. There is also now - a fan, for cooling down on those days Ireland actually experiences a real summer - like this year:) There is a laundry room with washing machine and dryer -( due to high energy costs we do request a payment for the use of these). There is also a line for drying clothes ( when Irish weather permits). The barn is located in what was an old farmyard - so there is plenty of space for safe private parking.

A wonderful location and beautiful remodeled barn accommodation! 4 sisters enjoyed 4 nights in the Swallow Loft!! Thank you Peggy and Tony for an amazing visit

Four of us enjoyed a too short stay at this most interesting property. Pictures and description are very accurate. The house was very clean and we had everything we needed. The barn sits behind Peggy and Tony's house and you will have complete privacy. They met us with great information on day trips and some pub and restaurant recommendations in Galway.
They were around, but not intrusive if that is a concern.
You will definitely need a car for any day trips and the 2 miles to downtown is a short drive or a 12 euro taxi charge. Peggy and Tony were helpful with cabs and it was relatively easy to travel to pubs in town that way.
I would recommend the property to anyone who wants quiet country living with excellent proximity to town.

Great property. Close to Galway centre via taxi. House was beautiful and host Peggy was great.

Our hostess sent detailed driving directions before we left for Ireland. Had an easy drive from Galway city (and later an easy walk into the city). The property is surrounded by lovely mature trees and rolling pastures. The stone barn quarters are spacious, extremely clean, and artfully decorated. There is a small deck off the living room for eating outside, if the weather is nice, and one views an enchanting hillside garden. Peggy McConnell is very welcoming and interesting to talk to. She gave us helpful information about places to visit. The accommodations were comfortable, peaceful, well-appointed, and well-stocked. We recommend it for anyone visiting the Galway area.

Peggy and Tony were gracious and very helpful hosts. Property renovations were beautiful and amenities were plentiful. Loved being greeted by Molly the horse. Truly a lovely experience.

The Old stone barn was beyond our expectations. It is the most inviting place in an absolutely beautiful setting. We enjoyed the hospitality and chats with Peggy and Tony and kitties who also made us feel very welcome. The apartment was lovely. We saw some wonderful parts of Ireland while staying in Galway - horseback riding on the beaches of Cleegan, driving through Connemara, and visiting and roaming around Inis Oirr. We hope to return!

We enjoyed every moment of our stay and appreciated all the thoughtful touches, from the well-stocked kitchen to the assortment of soaps and shampoos in both bathrooms. The beds were quite comfortable, the shower marvelously hot, and the gardens a wonder to behold. We couldn't have asked for more!

We enjoyed our 6 night stay at the Old Stone Barn apartment so very much. We were close to town but felt we were really in the countryside. The home was very comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. Peggy had lots of travel information available that proved quite helpful as this home was our home base for almost a week. We were staying with another couple, and having the bedrooms on two different floors was great for early risers. You cannot go wrong using this home as part of your Ireland experience.

We spent 2 weeks at the Swallow Loft. The apartment is beautifully decorated and very spacious and comfortable. It was very convenient with plenty of parking and to stow bikes. Peggy is a very gracious host and lovely company. My girls particularly enjoyed meeting Daisy the Dog and the resident cats. I highly recommend it. We have promised a return trip in the future.

We stayed for three nights at Peggy's Swallow Loft Apartment and used it as a base of operations to see some of the impressive sights and beautiful scenery in west central Ireland. The apartment was perfect for us in everyway. The upstairs (main living space and one bedroom) was functional, charming, and much more spacious than I imagined it would be. The downstairs bedroom with in-suite bathroom had every comfort necessary. The location was ideal and the grounds were delightful. The location is unique...so rural and yet just a 5-10 minute drive to the city. A supermarket just a few minutes away was convenient as well. The owner, Peggy, was helpful with suggestions and information regarding our day trips from Galway. It was by far the best accommodations we encountered on our tour of the British Isles. I would definitely stay here again and can enthusiastically recommend it to anyone who would like to spend some time in the area.

Our stay here was amazing! The barn was everything we needed. I was worried about being cold at night but the beds and comforters were so warm and comfy.
My friends and myself loved being greeted by their cat in the morning along with the pony.
Peggy and her husband were wonderful hosts.
I would definitely recommend staying there. It is quite unique and beautiful.
I hope I can return one of these days in the near future.
Thank you Peggy 💕

This was our second stay at the cottage – we loved it just as much the second time around as the first. It feels as if you are staying in a kind of magical place – very rural and complete with a 33 year old pony named Molly, who likes treats. But at the same time it is very near downtown Galway and all it has to offer. The cottage itself is a big part of the wonderful feeling of the place, it is so welcoming, spacious and beautifully decorated – both cozy and full of light. Peggy and Tony are knowledgeable and helpful hosts and just all around lovely and fun people. I hope we will be able to return for a third visit!

Located at the edge of town, it was great to have a rural setting.
A challenge to leave the driveway as it was tricky to get onto the road without a spotter.
Peggy was very hospitable and courteous and gave great suggestions for local activities.
Really loved Molly the horse, Daisy the dog and the cat - all were so nice to be with.

This beautiful renovated cottage was the perfect place to stay in Galway. It was very cozy and comfortable not to mention beautifully decorated. It had plenty of necessities as well. We were able to get to downtown Galway easily and made several day trips to Cliffs or Mohr, Achill Islands and Lahinch Beach. Tony and Peggy were very friendly and helpful hosts. Molly the horse would greet us on our way out every morning and Pooey the cat greeted us every night on our way back in. We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Ireland.

This apartment in a converted stone barn is peaceful and comfortable. The setting is absolutely dreamy - it was like staying in a beautiful secret garden! We were traveling with another couple and we all enjoyed hanging out in the main living area as there was plenty of seating. The kitchen was well equipped, so it was easy to cook in. The apartment is very conveniently located - even though it felt like we were way out in the country, we were just a few minutes from town.

We had a great stay at this gem right outside of a Galway proper. Easy access to everything and our kids loved the outside space and playing with Peggy’s pets. She was super kind to the kids, chatting with them and letting them have their run around her garden. She was easy going and the cottage was a comfortable place to settle in for a few days!

We stayed for 3 nights at the Swallow Loft as a family and we had a wonderful time there. Peggy is a perfect, very very friendly and welcoming host and we loved the beautiful, peaceful setting, all the little details in this most incredible house (unbelievable it was a barn once!), the flower and vegetable garden in the back and we loved the 2 cats, the sweet little dog and, above all, the biggest highlight for our horse-loving daughter was the pony Molly. All in all, it was the best place we could have chose for our stay in the area of Galway! We really recommend this little paradise that Peggy and her husband have created there!

Nice transformation of an old stable into a comfortable cozy (though roomy) apartment with 2 bedrooms and two full bathrooms)
Quiet environment, including access to a small terrace opening onto a larger flower garden . Easy parking on site, and convenient availability of cabs to avoid the challenge of traffic and parking in galway's city center.
Warm welcome and commu ication with the owners.

Loved everything about the place. Small challenge trying to find the driveway but not a big deal. Peggy was very nice and very responsive.

We can't thank Peggy and Tony enough for our beautiful visit. We loved staying in Swallow Loft so much, we were very sad to leave. The location was perfect. Driving up the drive way felt like going back in time passing Molly the pony and beautiful stone buildings, flowers and trees surrounding us. Inside the loft was beautiful. Beds were so comfortable and we had everything we needed. We will never forget the memories we created there and the time spent. Peggy and Tony were wonderful to talk to and very kind and helpful. We will definitely be back! Thank you!!

This charming converted barn is located just 10 minutes away from Galway city center, yet you’ll feel worlds away.
The old hat barn has been converted into a bright airy loft which I can’t recommend more highly.
The hosts are responsive and kind and happy to share any details about local adventures. There senior cats, a sweet old dog daisy and Molly the pony who will trot over for an apple if you call. My 3 year old nephew was just thrilled to pet all the animals.
The wifi works well in the main living spaces, but not in the bedrooms. This was not an issue for us, but could be for some if you are WFH.
The garden couldn’t be more lovely as all the spring flowers.
I simply could not recommend a place more highly and hope to one day return for another stay.
Thank you Peggy & Tony!

We thoroughly enjoyed our short 3 day stay at this property hosted by Peggy and Tony. It is remarkable what they have done to restore and furnish this old barn. It’s one of the nicest rentals I’ve stayed in Ireland. So quiet and away from the nightlife in Galway, yet close enough to go partake , just 10 mins into town. Highly recommend to anyone wishing to relax in the evening and not worry about anything.

A unique property just on the edge of Galway. Close to the city yet still part of the countryside. Lovely to come home to at the end of a day of touring Galway and surrounding areas.

Our stay at The Swallow Loft was wonderful. The apartment was cozy and comfortable (with two bathrooms, it was perfect for four ladies) and the property and surrounding area were beautiful. We felt like we were in the country even though it was just a ten minute drive to the city center. We also walked to the city center a handful of times (takes about 45 minutes, but the first part of the walk is on a narrow road without a sidewalk, so you need to be careful). Taxis were also readily available through the FREENOW app.
Our host, Peggy, was attentive and kind and answered any questions we had. I would definitely stay here again and enjoy more of what Galway has to offer.

We absolutely loved our stay at Swallow Loft! It was so comfortable, so full of light! The design of the old barn was absolutely spot on, very creative and spacious. There were only 3 of us, but we could have been many more and still very comfortable. I can’t give it high enough marks. LOVED IT!!!!!

We had the most incredible time staying at The Swallow loft. The space was even better than expected and very conveniently located just a short drive outside of the city center.
Peggy was attentive and kind and even helped us with a delivery that we received while staying at the loft. Would highly recommend and hope to be back someday!

We absolutely loved our stay at this gorgeous house and the host were lovely., always helping us with lots of information. The house had everything we needed and the setting was perfect for getting away from the city but being only 10 minutes away from everything. Here we had the best of both worlds. The place was spotless and very sunny we loved their Pony Molly she is the sweetest. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us we hope to go back soon.

The Swallow loft was everything and more than we were expecting. The grounds are breathtaking and the home is full of charm. Peggy And Tony were wonderful host, who showed us around and had many suggestions for things to do and places to eat. We highly recommend a stay here.

Our family of four stayed here for three nights and the description of property is accurate but once we arrived we felt we were in a special place. The barn has great character and delightful little nooks to find a great book, catch a glimpse of the moon or a pony close by. Peggy was a great host and was very helpful by pointing us in the right direction- local knowledge is always appreciated! Gorgeous gardens too!

You know how some things look better in pictures? Well, that’s not the Swallow Loft - it is even better in real life! Totally exceeded my expectations! And they were high to begin with!
It is an ideal place to stay for two couples, or a small family with plenty of privacy. The guest en-suite with its own private bath is downstairs on the first floor and the second/master bedroom is on the second floor where the well stocked kitchen and spacious open living space are located.
If you decide to go carless, not to worry. Ireland has their own Uber system called FreeNow, which is always on time and very reliable and runs about €12-€14. We used it all the time and it takes only 10 minutes, if that, to get to Eyre Square, the city center. It is walkable, however and I did it one day, but the roads don’t always have sidewalks or footpaths, so a cab, especially at night, is the safer way to go.
The hosts, Peggy and Tony are just terrific and are always there for any questions or recommendations regarding sightseeing or dining.
There is also a resident pony, Molly, who hangs out in the pasture and will be happy to accept a carrot or apple and then there is Daisy, the dog, and Casper and Poos, the two cats.
Twas so nice going back to such a quiet spot in the “country” to sleep, where all you hear are the sounds of nature. The beds are very comfortable and the bedding very cozy.
If you’re looking for a place to stay in Galway City, a fantastic city, btw, look no further than The Swallow Loft, or the barn next door. You’ll be glad you did.
Many thanks, Peggy and Tony for a wonderful time in your lovely and charming loft. We had a wonderful time and will forever cherish our Galway memories.
