Nice stay, very friendly staff. Pods can be a bit warm but comfortable. Showers were fine, bedding and towels provided
Would stay again

Very clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable pod. I would stay again. Other reviews I read said no plug (only usb) in the pod - but I had plug. Had a 2 bed room, same room mate the entire stay. Free coffee in the morning was a bonus.
The only negative was the use of an overly scented cleaning product that is quite an assault to the senses! Thankful the window opened to air out the room.

It was a nightmare that I have spent more than 2weeks to try to communicate with the hotel. Sent 3 emails, 5 calls. People at the reception barely answers the call and ask to wait on hold for half an hour without talk. At the end, I could not stay at the toom that I have booked. They are not answering to Hotels.com when needed as well. Think twice before you book.

I always stay here when I come in over the bridge from Jersey for work. The staff is kind especially Haven. This time around I messes up my reservation and booked through the wrong days. Haven went out of her way to fix the booking and accommodate me. Most places would’ve turned me away. Forever appreciative. I also really love the pods even though they get a little stuffy. However the level of privacy trumps that every time.

It might be one of the cheapest options in Manhattan but definitely far less than best bang for a buck. There is no way of charging your electronic devices inside the capsule unless you use regular usb type. The only way is the first floor lobby. No restaurants nearby; Had to walk for 10-15m to get to closest Chitpole and McDonal’s. If you don’t bring shorts and slippers it could be very inconvenient to go back and forth between restroom and your dorm room. I also found some snots dried up on the wall of my capsule

It was a hotel with reasonable prices in uptown Manhattan. Also, provide some light breakfast to the tenant as well. However, the comfortable manner was not impressive. A capsule suit was not enough to absorb the noise from outside and there was no adequate safe to store some personal items. And air ventilation was not enough that could smell week from one of co-tenant.

The hostel it’s an amazing location! Staff was nice! Only problem on my stay was the the lobby was being remodeled. And was noisy in the morning. But this is something that won’t be a problem in the future.

Everything was great from check-in to check-out. The bed was comfortable and the hostel is generally clean. Unfortunately, my room was SUPER warm and had no temperature control so I was basically sweating every night in the room and when you slide your capsule door open, it’s even worse

It was so terrible. I would never come here again!

Considering this is a hostel, it seemed incredibly quiet and clean. I met no competition for shared shower/bathroom facilities and the common area is convenient for working.

Never been to a Hostel before but since New York is so expensive I had to stay in one. I had an amazing time here, really only used it t sleep but there is a lot to do around the area. Central Park is right next to it and so is Columbia University. Lots of places to eat if you walk a two blocks away from the place and even more places to eat if you walk two more blocks from it. Met a lot of cool people, many from different places of the world. My roommate was from Spain and it was awesome to speak to him. Place is great, staff is very nice and you can meet different people from around the world there. Don’t expect it to be a 5 star service, it is a Hostel, there isn’t a maid that makes your bed every day. Place is really just to sleep if you want to visit and explore New York. The pod has one pillow and a thin blanket so if you want something more you have to bring your own. It is definitely worth it for how expensive New York is. I stayed in a two pod bedroom spot just me and my roommate. There is a locker for you to put your belongings in. Bring a lock, if you forget to get a lock there is a 99 cent store right around block that you can buy one from. Great stay and a great place 4.8/5!

Great location for the price. A few points to note: in my dorm at least the pods did not lock and either there was no air conditioning or it was turned off. Pods were comfortable and while the fan was loud it was good white noise. It would be good if the pod doors were less loud when opening and closing.

1st night was really hot in the pod and had to get a small towel and put cold water on it so i could fall asleep, 1 of the 2 colling fans was barely working. However night 2,3 and 4 were much cooler but i did have the cooling run all the time. The bed was comfortable and the luggage storage was free which i liked, the bagels and coffee was also a nice touch. Overall the experience was good apart from my towels going missing 2 days in a row so had to go to reception and ask for replacement ones

Beautiful location, easy to access, away from the noise and business of the theater district. The pod was cofortable and the room was clean. Bare bones accommodation at an excellent price. I'll be back.

Staff was friendly. Showers and Bathrooms were clean for the woman’s side. They do all trans women to stay there so be aware

I had a 2 pod room. The comfort was fine, but a little awkward getting in and out. Kind of contortionist. No dis-respect. It's a beautiful street and EXTREMELY friendly staff. The price was excellent and everything is near.

I was nervous because I’ve never stayed at a hostel, but my first experience went really well. It’s great for a overnight stay to sleep and enjoy the city for a few days. You walk out to Central Park, the area is clean charming and safe. I would recommend this place for sure.

The pods are essentially enclosed bunk beds with their own lights, fans, and USB charging ports. The doors to the pods are difficult to open and close and are thus very noisy, but the window AC made enough white noise that otherwise neighbor noise wasn’t an issue. Mattress was comfortable and facilities were clean. The ensuite bathroom was nice, but if your roommates are hogging it the shared showers/toilets are fine, though there’s no hair dryers in the shared facilities. Breakfast was plain bagels with jam, but they only had bowls and forks available, which was weird. Staff was very nice, and the building felt safe. My only real complaint was you only get a bedsheet and no blanket, though a towel is provided, which is the opposite of my general experience in hostels. The price was good for NYC, location was great and the bed was comfy and clean, so I would definitely stay here again. Honestly this was a way better experience than any AirBnB stays I’ve had in NYC.

Pods were nice and clean and cozy — seemed very modern with the opportunity to control the air and lighting within the pod. Staff was friendly. Would definitely recommend for a solo traveler!

First time as hostel user and a good choice. I had a two male pod. Things were as described. Couple of things, bring a small lock for the room lockers and test. I had to Mcgiver the latch. The garden is nice to get outside. The pod looks like it has a latch but they don’t function(maybe a safety thing?). The men’s bathrooms were clean and plenty of hot water. Bring ear plugs as 106th and Central Park West are “popular” roads for sirens. I’d be back.

When I stay in New York, I want a place where I can sleep well after a day of adventuring, and honestly— Kama Central is the best sleep I’ve had in NYC. The pods offer more noise cancellation and privacy than normal hostels, but be prepared for some tight quarters as far as storing and accessing your luggage! The best part of Kama Central was having awesome staff to chat with and offer help! Izzy was particularly helpful and she made my stay that much more memorable!!

I am disabled and needed a bottom bunk (requested), and the bathrooms were shut down all over the place. There was no place to retrieve any water except the shower or bathroom sinks because the drink machine was suddenly out of order-ALSO IT WAS 84 DEGREES ALL NIGHT IN A TOP BUNK WITH NO AIR. Awful experience all around. Never again

Enjoyed my stay.

Overall pretty nice. The pods are quite good for privacy, though the construction could be improved on.
The main issue is size (I'm 6'3", while I could lay down flat, I was touching both ends), and the noise of the fan. The USB ports could probably also be tightened (they work, but are loose).
However, that can be overlooked for the privacy it gives and the noise insulation from the other dormmates.
Location is fantastic, a short walk away from the subway, and right next to Central Park. Food options nearby are also really good, with Mama's TOO (really good pizza) not far away, as well as Saiguette (tasty Banh Mi).
Staff are also kind and helpful. Though I think if they had access to a list of recommendations/physical maps it'd take it from a 9.5/10 to 10/10.

Pros:
- Pods/capsules give more privacy than normal bunk beds
- Each pod has two usb ports
- If you close your pod, it isolates the light from the room. There is an internal light system for the pod and you can control how light you want it to be.
- They provide towels and bed sheets
- Pods are clean/newish
- Staff is friendly
- Breakfast is available (bagels and coffee)
- Great location, near subway and central park
Cons:
- In the rooms with bathrooms the humidity is high in the room. The bathroom on the room I stayed in was good and clean.
- The shared bathrooms on the floors are not great. There are 3 showers in the same bathroom with curtains/walls separating them which is normal for hostels but gives you no privacy. There are few hangers/racks/hooks in the bathroom. The toilet was often dirty.
- Each pod has its own fan that you can control. They are not powerful enoug and a little noisy. You can hear the fans from other pods.
Other tips and comments:
- Kama is in the same building of Jazz on the Park hostel. If you want more privacy, go with Kama (for the pod beds). If you want more interaction with others, go with Jazz.
- The 2 bed room I stayed at this time did not have private bathrooms. The 6 bed room I stayed before had a bathroom inside the room. Since pods give you privacy, staying in the 6 bed room is better.

Good staff. Bed is clean, efficient air conditioner and outlets, lockers, but bring your own lock.
They are still doing construction in the main public kitchen area, but you still can sit, hang out, eat and work when there's not construction.

I wish they had small tv's in the capsules and the noise from the fan is loud.

Very nice staff, clean place and 3 blocks from the metro... I strongly recommend it. The other roomates in the hostel were also super nice and friendly with me. The pods are super comfortable and give you the necessary intimacy for sleep.

Room smelled of urine. Lockers in room needed to be wiped down.
