The pond is also known for its yellow perch, chain pickerel, rainbow smelt, and hornpout. The hiking trails of Holt Pond Preserve and Bald Pate Mountain Preserve are only a short distance from the shoreline of Foster Pond. Holt Pond Preserve offers 5.3 miles of trails through wetland and upland habitats while the trail network of Bald Pate Mountain Preserve totals 6.7 miles and includes views from the top of Bald Pate, which has an elevation of 1100 feet.
