We had one prerequisite: unfettered access to both Lake Wentworth and the Cotton Rail Trail. We learned this property is actually on Fernald Basin, separated from Wentworth in 1872. I found no area by which to easily portage a kayak up out of the basin and over to Lake Wentworth. The basin has snapping turtles, lots of undergrowth. Kayaking on Wentworth requires vehicle transport. (Allen Albee Beach is a private beach and requires a pass, which was not left). Access to the trail is only by means of Route 28 (no shoulders) to Allen Albee Beach road, several minutes down the road. Neighboring Sandbrook Drive has direct access to the trail but is also private. Agree the traffic noise is very loud, and constant. Apparent lack of detail to cleanliness. The entry door was dirty, there were crumbs on the kitchen counter, small food particles in the sink strainer, lots of grit/dirt on the area rug in the living room, and the appliances were old, grimy and dirty. The fins and slats of a cooling fan were black with dirt. There was garbage left in both the kitchen and bathroom trash cans. While there was a “large flat screen tv”, no cable connection. Towels were old, worn. We left early. Indeed a pretty view. But had VRBO reviews been available at booking or prior to stay, we would have cancelled. No pleasure in this review as the owners were very responsive to inquiries, yet it does not overcome the lack of attention to detail. I hope they heed all reviews & improve.

House was misrepresented in listing. There is no WiFi. The listing states a “laptop friendly workspace.” I understand not providing WiFi, but this should be clarified. We managed, but honestly would not have rented if we knew there was no WiFi. Beds were awful, my boyfriend drove 40 mi to get a mattress topper and pillows. The house is on a basin of Lake Wentworth, swimming was not an option at the house. The walk over to Albee Beach was about 10 minutes, with a portion along the main road. Driving was about 5 minutes. The kayak and paddle boat were fantastic. The space was dirty, and in need of updating in order to justify the high nightly rate. Windows did not lock, and the shades on them did not cover the entire window. The main road was awful, the trucks barreled down it at all hours. The house has great potential and it is evident that the owners are in the process of updating. Price should reflect. Many trip hazards in the house. We ended up making the best of our stay, made lots of great memories, our lil guy caught a fish and kayaked for the first time. Being our only get away of the summer it was a little disappointing.

I would describe this more as a rustic camp. The layout is funky with all most all rooms connected to the bathrooms. Worked fine for close family but limited privacy in all but one bedroom - beds were also uncomfortable for adults fine for kids. Limited plugs and lights in all but main part of house. Located on a busy street with a lot of traffic noise. The part of the lake they are on is more of a pond secluded off from main lake, good for kayacking and paddle boarding but can’t go far because small. Kids swam but there are a lot of snapping turtles we saw some big ones and they got nervous. Access to private beach down the road isn’t available. The screened in porch is awesome, fire pit is great, kitchen is functional with great view, Kayak and peddle boat were great, access to the cotton rail trail is via a very busy road but a great asset once you get to it. Overall we enjoyed our stay but felt it was over priced for what we got compared to the listing description.

Lovely cabin with a dock right on the water. There is a grill, fire pit, and a screened in porch. Only downfall was the driveway is hard to find and there is no wifi but there may not be wifi available in the area. Otherwise we had a great stay!! Highly recommend.
