Brownell Homestead Inn-Experience the real Seward.
About this house rental
Nestled in Seward, this lovely house for $1,087 per night is a great choice for your next break. The Brownell Homestead Inn, established in 2017, offers guests premium accommodations in one of Seward's oldest residences. Located on First Avenue close to downtown, this home was built in 1903 and is known locally as the Brownell Homestead. It was also one of the main settings for the movie Sugar Mountain which was filmed in Seward in 2014. Our Inn features three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the main level, along side an eat-in kitchen and large family room. The spacious kitchen is outfitted with everything you'll need to prepare meals for your whole group. A concrete patio on the front of the home offers a perfect spot to relax in the sun and barbecue on summer evenings. Guests will enjoy beautifully preserved historic details throughout the home including hardwood floors and stately wooden beams that hint at the home's original log cabin facade. A master suite comprises the whole upper level of the home, where the bedroom offers views of Resurrection Bay. Nestled on a large lot with mature trees, this property has a very private feel, while still within walking distance to historic downtown Seward, the waterfront park and the Alaska SeaLife Center. Brownell Homestead Inn is your group's perfect home base for your visit to Seward! Doug Wight, the owner of Brownell Homestead Inn, is an avid mountain runner and a proud sponsor of Seward's famous annual Mount Marathon footrace. Racers, including Doug himself, race right past the Homestead on their ascent and descent of the mountain each Fourth of July. The master suite features a queen size bed and twin-size day bed and each of the bedrooms on the main level has a queen bed.

What a beautiful property. The house was charming and special with its history. More than enough room and had everything you could need, including little extras like a pack n play, baby gate, stroller, high chair, fans for each room and even lawn chairs. Bathrooms were stocked with shampoo, conditioner and hair dryers. Walking distance to almost everything and right across from the hospital.

A charming house in a perfect location. Lots of quirks added character to our stay. If we're ever in Seward again, we would definitely book the Brownell House again.

House had so much character. I just love older homes. Plenty of room for all 6 adults.

I think the pictures really under sell this home! It was absolutely perfect. The location was incredibly convenient, the property was very clean and comfortable, and the home was great for our group of 10 people. It was full of historic charm and I would definitely stay here again.

We had an amazing time in Seward at this beautiful historic home! It was large enough for our group of 10 adults, perfect walking distance from everything we wanted to do in Seward, and made a great home away from home on our trip.

This rental was amazing! The rooms were comfortable and the kitchen area was spacious. The owners provided camp chairs for the firepit. There were a few mosquitos, but this is to be expected and either the owners or former guests provided some insect spray and coils. Overall - we hope to stay here again.

We enjoyed the history of this house and watched Sugar Mountain while there. Although an older historic home, the house was clean and very comfortable. Great location for walkability into town.

Very comfy house - we were only here for 1 night but could easily have imagined spending more time here. Would be good with a larger group - games, space to spreadout, well stocked kitchen for cooking.

We loved the walkability of this location with hikes, walks, the Sealife Center and the historic downtown all close by. This historic Seward home at the foot of Mt. Marathon had charm and was loaded with every amenity one could imagine!

Wonderful stay!! Drip coffee maker, great location to downtown Seward, comfortable and clean beds and bathrooms. One bedroom doesn’t have a bathroom and there is no common bathroom, not connected to a bedroom, so your party will need to share! House comfortably fit 8 adults and two children, however, 10 adults could fit, too!

The Brownell Homestead Inn is a true delight! There are so many wonderful features of this home that it's too long to list. Everything was wonderful from the check in to leaving the property. Great location. Short walk to downtown Seward and to the Free Shuttle (approximately two blocks away). We did not have a car so we used the free shuttle a lot. There were six of us staying in this house and there was plenty of room. Only one bedroom on the first floor does not have its own bathroom so my brother shared ours upstairs. The entire upstairs was perfect for two people with great views from the bedroom as well as the bathroom and the dressing area. There are two washer and dryer units in the unfinished basement. We all found this house to be comfy and cozy. Lots of options for seating in the kitchen. Lots of mosquitos outside so bring bug spray. Our son and his girlfriend climbed Mt. Marathon. The trailhead is just down the street from the house. There is a DVD of the Mt. Marathon July 4th Race that we all watched and was very interesting - "A must watch."
There is also a fascinating book on the coffee table whose title and author I cannot remember at the moment but we all started reading parts of it. The book is a diary that the man kept of the journey while on Fox Island over the winter.

The house was exactly as described. Super convenient to walk to many restaurants, hikes and activities. Communication was easy and fast. This did not ruin our stay, but please note that the three bathrooms are attached to bedrooms, so one bedroom has to go through another bedroom to use the bathroom.
