Very basic accommodation but great pool and chill vibes

We picked Shiralea for it's location away from the parties in the South of the island and it's chill vibe - definitely delivered on being a super laid back hostel with a great pool. The main common area/bar was great to work at for short stints, the wifi was pretty decent but the seating was not practical if you weren't socialising. Our bungalow was one of the most basic you could go for and it did the job. The best bit was a private balcony area with a hammock which was nice to hang out in in the evenings.

The beds were basically what you pay for - kinda rubbish and hard. Whoever does the housekeeping doesn't know how to make a bed but we didn't find the sheets to be unclean like some other reviews. The bathroom was basic, but again, you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, the food and drinks are a bit overpriced and not that great quality so you would be better off going elsewhere. Also don't do your laundry at Shiralea, there's a lady about 200m up the road who does it cheaper.

Our favourite stay in Asia so far

The best stay our group of 8 has stayed at in Asia over the last 2 months, we stayed 2 nights and could have stayed a week! The food was unreal, again some of the best we’ve had in months, the bar and pool area were great and the staff were so friendly and sorted us out lifts to Eden party. Would reccomend and if given the chance we would definitely be back!

Exceptional

Perfect place 1min walk to our favourite beach in the island. The resort got a warm and relaxed atmosphere, the bungalows are surrounded by nature and privacy. Many services and tours avaible from the resort (yoga, thai boxe, excursion, laundry, swimming pool)

Bathroom are a bit old and needs renovation, but it's normal for a bungalow situation

best way to travel the island i get a scooter. be sure you can drive properly.

Amazing

Way better than I expected! Bar , Restaurant, Gym & by the beach was perfect. Staff member Olly made the trip extra good such a nice friendly enthusiastic person helped me out too whenever needed so thankyou!

bathrooms were too dirty for me and it was very far away. I would not stay here again

staff were friendly and the vibe was nice by the bar Haad Yo beach was close by and very nice lockers were huge to fit all your stuff

bathrooms were outdoors with no main door so they were infested with insects and a serious ant problem by the sinks and in the showers you’re showering and brushing your teeth with the cockroaches and ants and then step out and get bitten by mosquitoes. there was no hand soap or shower gel to use. The pool area could’ve been cleaner too. you have to pay to refill your water bottle and they only provide hot water no coffee. the bed duvet was merely a sheet so got very cold at night. very far from anything, if you don’t have a motorbike it’s impossible to get around on food because it’s so steep the roads.

Hidden backpacker bungalow with pool, good enough to stay a few nights.

The resort had a good sized swimming pool and a basic gym which guests could use. Atmosphere was friendly. Fairly well maintained and cleaned. The bar and restaurant had a reasonable menu. Bungalows were spread across the property. The budget twins had a balcony with a hammock. Despite not having AC the room was still really cool even at the beginning of April. I enjoyed hearing the sounds of the forest behind the bungalow.

The twin fan bungalows are really small. It was just me in the room and it felt cramped. I have no idea how two people and bags are meant to fit. You hear music from the bar which isn’t always welcome if you want to relax in silence in your hammock (especially if it’s not your taste in music) I ordered breakfast once and felt it was disappointing. Over priced for what was served. Though I had lunch (Thai food) and that was good. Lastly I found the behaviour of one of the workers (older English guy) to be unacceptable in my opinion. I observed him constantly eyeing up young woman in bikinis whilst round the pool. Unprofessional!!

great location, very social, ideal spot to see the island.

the social areas were great, staff were so welcoming and everything you needed in short distance. Rooms were a good size and bathroom a good size too! The pool was also great!

we stayed in a standard double room/bungalow. Although it was spacious the beading was slightly unclean and the rooms were roasting even with the fan on.

Very good

the common area and restaurant are beautiful, comfy, with a great vibe. I met some amazing people and the wifi is great. The dorms have big lockers, they provide with a padlock, A/C, individual lights.

The bedsheets had stains even though you could see they had been cleaned, and the matress was the hardest I've experienced in 2 months in Thailand. It literally hurt to lay on my back or my side for a while. Other travellers told me theirs weren't that bad, so i guess just bad luck.

Liked the location, gym, food and set-up of the whole place. It's a nice place and good value for money in general, I think.

The mattresses in bungalow #3 need to be replaced. On one I could feel the springs in my back and the other one felt like lying on iron. I know it's not in all bungalows like this, some have good mattresses. I did get an extra topper and blanket to make myself a bit more comfortable during the night. If I did not sleep so bad, I would have given this place an 8.

Great location, just okey room.

the location was great and it has a pool which was nice, also the common areas.

the bed was very hard and uncomfortable and the foreign staff at the restaurant/cafe always seemed to be in a bad mood.

Location is good, just 2 minutes by walking from the beach, in a shadow of the green.

Everything needs to be repaired. Sanitary engineering is broken, doors and locks are broken, etc. Many small things should be replaced by a new one. This place is required to be renovated. They do not clean up the rooms during the stay and do not change towels / bedding.

I needed to cancel some nights 2 times because I got really sick. once before I arrived and once I thought I was better but unfortunately not… this all was no problem and they give me my money back. the people are really nice and the vibe is good! near to nice beach and food is good price and good!

the dorm where I was in had a strong smell of sweat (lots of men in the room and you can’t open a window) and the toilets/shower can be cleaner… but I saw people cleaning two times a day so maybe it’s just difficult in high season to keep everyone clean.

Great common area, pool, gym.

Dorm bed was super uncomfortable and the dorm bathrooms are in a run down condition with lots of insects since it's half open. Nothing compared to the bathrooms in the main area. The window in the dorm was tiny. The dorm building is not nearly as nice as the rest of the resort it's all in all a bit run down and made with less effort, love and design.

Superb

Really great place for solo travelers and to get in touch with others. 1 min to the beach, which in my opinion is the most beautiful on the island. The staff are all very nice and helpful. If there is anything or you need anything they take care of it right away. I would come here again and again.

Unfortunately, in my bungalow it was noisy every night/in the morning and you can hear everything around you. Therefore, I recommend sensitive people to take earplugs.

Shiralea was fine but slightly on the expensive side for what it offers. on a side note, this is a “hippy” place. if tha

clean chill area and Resturant good gym swimming pool

room was very basic, for the price it would be nice to have more amenities. you could hear everything outside of the hut. only 2 sun loungers available

Suited to backpackers but not us

Communal areas were lovely and there was generally a really good feeling to the accomodation

The rooms we stayed in were really basic, I think the deluxe bungalows may have been more suited to our group. We booked for 4 nights but checked out after 1 because it wasn't right for us. The beds were hard in the room and there were ants in the room too. We didn't tell staff about our issues so they may have been able to resolve them (they seemed really helpful).

- Appalling condition of the mattresses(twin) after 2 nights very happy to leave. This typ of bungalows are to basic (not even aircon) to charge 800 baht
